I was called today by this company. My friend that I purchased the day Spa package.. they are funding it. They are closed on Sunday's & Monday's. They said I complained I was there for only 20 minutes.. I know I was there for over an hour, as per my Parking receipt for street parking. Willing to show it to them, I kept it... Its nice I'm getting a refund.. though the SNARKY ATTITUDE is never a good sign. I'm giving these people a 3/5 stars.. because( at 4 I'd have to be a fan, and I'm not) and I no longer have to deal with them and I'm getting a refund for my friend.. I'll take her out for dinner.. Enjoyable experience. Great price for just getting brows touched up and shaped! They use hot wax to get rid of the extraneous brow hair but don't worry - they won't burn you! So far I have really enjoyed booking with Sylvia. Also, they have an online booking system so it makes it way easier to book appointments. You can also request a technician that you want when you book. Oh and I should also add that their new place on Whyte Ave is way better than their previous building! Only caveat is that parking can be a bit of an issue. read more

I wish I could give Dermica a high review because I absolutely loved the staff working there and the ambiance of the shop. The staff were funny, amenable and very easy to talk to, which is nice when you are getting hair ripped off your body - gotta have a distraction, right? They were very accommodating and were able to get a friend and I in for waxes with little notice. That being said, I did not think that the services I received were worth what I paid for them. The wax job left tonnes of stray hairs, which didn't get plucked, and they weren't little tiny hairs either. They were fairly long and the esthetician would've been able to pluck them out had she taken the time to look. I wasn't offered a mirror either to examine what had been done. Once I got home I discovered not only the random strays, but also a large strip of hair she had completely missed! I had initially thought "oh well she just made a mistake", but after talking to my friend I found out that she also had a strip of hair left over too. I am thoroughly unimpressed. Make sure to check out the spot where your goods and your right thigh meet if you're getting a Brazilian done. Loved the staff, but the waxing wasn't worth it so I won't be returning. read more

I don't normally have any waxing done but since I was going on a hot holiday, thought it would be worth it. I picked this salon from the good reviews and I am happy to say that it was worth it. Jhoenna is the owner and esthetician and she was great. She made me feel totally comfortable considering this was a new experience for me. She worked quickly which was nice cause nobody wants a waxing appt to last forever! She would explain what she was doing enough to make me feel at ease but not giving me every little detail that I didn't want to know. I am happy with the results. I was looking for a place to get my brows done and this place had great reviews. It is in a crappy looking building but the inside was really cool, I loved the decor! They do their waxing and tinting out in the open for everyone to see. I thought that was odd. My appointment lasted 45 mins for brows and lip waxing. They really measured the length and did everything "by the book". It almost felt like it was for show. I was hoping they would do more of what looks good on me as oppose to measuring. I was happy enough mostly cause I didn't have to go home and fix them. The shaping was alright but nothing special. I'm not sure if I would recommend it. I have been going to Dermica MedEsthetics in Edmonton for 4 months for my skin care and laser skin resurfacing.I must say I'm very happy with the results. I've done a series of IPL photofacials and chemical peels and my skin is looking much better! Now I am doing facials for maintenance and my skin looks and feels rejuvenated. My dark spots and sun spots are gone, which was the main reason why I sought out professional skin care and IPL photofacials. In terms of the medical spa itself, it was very clean and the staff is friendly and very knowledgable, they're obviously experts at what they do. I love the fact that they offer parking as they are located on whyte ave and everyone knows finding parking on Whyte ave is sometimes difficult. I went here for an eyebrow wax, and I like my eyebrows. The owner, Jhoenna, was very polite, funny, and a pleasure to be around. She explained things about other services I was inquiring about, without pushing it on me. That is something rare these days when you visit spas. I was worried about coming here because every time I get my brows waxed, I end up with uneven brows with patches missing. She did a good job, although they are slightly uneven. They still look great! Definitely a must try. I lowered my rating from 4 stars to 3 just because I broke out pretty bad in the areas that have been waxed. This may have been a reaction to the wax, but I never broke out with wax before. Id still recommend trying them out! read more

Went for a treatment. Ended up having my permanent lip liner removed from my lips with a razor blade. Months to recover. I had that lip liner tattoo over thirty years and now that I am seventy my skin is to thin to have it repaired. So for me I will not be back. read more

Not impressed and would not recommend the facials here for so many reasons. There was no one to greet me when I arrived and I sat by myself in the lobby for quite some time. The facial ended up starting a lot later than it was supposed to, as my facialist thought the appointment was for 15 minutes later than it actually was. I also ended up waiting in the facial room for quite a while while she got everything ready. The ambiance was not relaxing at all - bright room with upbeat music which she asked if I wanted changed and I said yes, and then she didn't change it until almost half way through the appointment. My facialist seemed rude, untalkative and didn't explain what was happening despite my attempts to ask questions. During the facial, she hit my face by accident twice with a towel and also left the room for what felt like forever while she steamed my face to the point where i was uncomfortable, hot, and my eyes were stinging from some product she put on. The extractions were more painful than other facials I have had, to the point where I felt sick and asked to stop and take a break but she said we had to keep going. In the end, she forgot to address one of the skin concerns I had until the end when I had to remind her for the 3rd or 4th time. And even after that, she wasn't able to address the main concerns I went there for in the first place, telling me to come back and rebook another facial with someone else who could do it for me then. I was so uncomfortable and unsatisfied with the results, I went home quite upset. I have had other facials and this one pales in comparison - I am very disappointed as I thought I would love it. read more

I cannot wait to go back and try out all the services! As soon as I walked into the place I was greeted warmly by smiling face and offered a warm drink, bonus on a cold winter day. The decor is classy, trendy, clean and fun. I went in for the photo facial and did not have to wait very long to be seen at all. Jhoenna made sure I was comfortable throughout the procedure and also explained what she was doing as she went along. I am so happy with my results!!! While I didn't have any major skin issues all my "problem areas" were solved. My blackheads were gone,my pores looked so small they are almost nonexistent, any redness or uneven skin tone was smoothed out and my skin feels so soft! The marketing for this company is great and shows a credible reputation. The ambiance on the other hand is not great and it's not very clean. They make you take your shoes off and offer used sandals. The practitioner used a dirty apron hanging on the back of a door to dry hands after washing them and there was no product information provided during a facial treatment so I had no idea what they were actually using. Part way through the treatment the classical music playing abruptly changed to kids music in French and was never changed. The practitioner wore gloves during the treatment which felt uncomfortable and scrubbed the skin way too hard. If you're looking for a relaxing experience and are accustomed to professional facials I would not recommend going here. read more

I went to Dérmica about a week ago for a facial by a lady named Alexandra. I have read the reviews on that name on her before I went for my appointment but I didn't want to cancel and sure enough the manger sends me to Alexandra. The beginning of the facial was relaxing but towards the end she started to get very lazy... she would often go to the sink to warm up a towel to put on my face to remove the face wash or mask but after the first 2 times she stopped warming it up and continued to use the cold towel on my face multiple times because she did not want to get up. That made the facial uncomfortable and the room was very cold with very bright lights and the noise coming from outside the room door was very loud, which is strange because there was barely any customers. All together I would not recommend this place, it was way to expensive for a mediocre "relaxing" treatment, and this was my first facial I have ever gotten and now I don't want to get one again, very disappointing. The Manager/owner seemed lovely, I wish I would have had her for my facial but I have a feeling she doesn't let Alexandra know of these consistant negative reviews on her work. read more

Being new to Edmonton, I was very anxious about who to trust with my eyebrows. I finally decided on Dermica, since it had lower prices on waxing than some high end salons. Finally, I went to get them done, and I was welcomed by Sylvia (I believe that was her name). It is a very calming and chic environment, so I instantly felt better. She even offered me slippers! When I got into the room to start the waxing, she asked if I was happy with my eyebrow shape. I was glad she asked because sometimes the aestheticians try to change things. She was quick and concise and I left with fresh brows! It even hurt less than other waxings I've had. When she thought she was done she showed me and mentioned that my eyebrows were noticeably asymmetric and she could fix it. This is something I had noticed naturally in my eyebrows before and of course let her try and fix it. So I was very grateful for that and that she informed me. I went to this place for IPL laser hair removal. My initial experience at this place was wonderful. They would follow up after my appointments to ask how my skin was feeling. After a few session my forehead had some scabbing and they were very quick in responding to my issue they prepped my skin better the next time and made me a feel that I was in good and experienced hands. After my first legs treatment, however, I had really bad burn spotting- they told me to wait and it will go away. However, it did not change after few months- they offered to do another ACLARA IPL treatment to get rid of the marks and this time and oh boy, that just straight up burned my legs. The marks are darker than ever before and that treatment gave me second degree BURNS. Even after I messaged and called them and they did not even have the curtsey to call me back. I send them pictures and they reply with it will go away. No apologies no follow-up phone call to check up. To imagine I spend 2000$ or more at this place in one-two years I went for my treatments and this the kind of service I received from this spa. Don't get fooled with their fancy certification and think will know what best for your skin. I will rate them worst customer service I have ever received. I will never go to this spa again. read more
