There are two pools. One is used by adults for lap…read moreswimming, as well as swim practice for the older kids. Itʻs in the shape of an L. In the summer, the pool is 50 m, that runs from shallow to deep. There are also a few lanes in the deep end (13 ft) that are 25 yards. In the winter, they reconfigure the lanes so that they are 25 yards (shallow water) and 33 yards (from 7ʻ to 13ʻ). Overall the pool ranges in depth from 4ʻ to 7ʻ and 13.ʻ It is open year round for lap swimming. The other pool is a shallower pool, used primarily for family swim, and swimming for kids in the summer. They also use it for lessons and swim practice for the kids. They have designated hours for public lap swim in the big pool from 12 - 3 PM, M-Sa, and also include Sundays in the summer. Be sure to look for the FAST swim program website in order to reserve and pay for a lane for lap swim. In the summer, the community summer day camp programs come and use the pool, usually from around 11 - 2. There are lifeguards. If you are doing lap swim, itʻs recommended taht you know how to swim. Lap swim tends to be very busy, and most of the people swam in high school or college, many of them during 12 - 3 are older. Basic swim equipment: fins, paddles, kickboards, goggles, are allowed to use as part of your lap swim routine. Swimwear attire. Overall, itʻs a very nice facility. It could use some facility upgrades, like shaded areas where people can towel off in the hot summer months, and where others can wait. It could use more regular cleaning of the locker rooms especially in the summer, when there should be restroom/locker room attendants. It could use more signage, and graphics, and the check in for everyone using the pool should be located near the entrance -in its own building, or a ticket booth. Itʻs a great place.

What exactly am I paying for?…read more Seriously. I purchased a membership for lap swimming, but the reality is that members are constantly competing for access to THREE lanes. Not an entire pool. Three lanes. And apparently the expectation is that up to FOUR adults can share a single lane. Four. There was a day when a third person joined my lane and that was RIDICULOUS. Four people sharing one lap lane is not a quality swimming experience. It's overcrowding disguised as a membership benefit. Then there are the limited hours. Which I was initially fine with until everything else. There are the swim lessons and you will be removed from a lane if the instructor needs the lane you are already in. Then there is the jacuzzi, which seems to spend more time closed than open. I swim three times a week and I honestly can't remember the last time it was available. At this point, why advertise it as an amenity at all? And today I find... the facility is closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for a swim meet. The only notice given was a piece of paper taped to the door. A piece of paper. In 2026. Members provide phone numbers and email addresses when signing up. Why collect that information if you're not going to communicate closures that eliminate nearly half a week's worth of access? No email. No text. No notification. Just drive over and find out when you get there. The most frustrating part is that none of these issues exist by themselves. It's the combination of all of them. Limited hours. Limited lanes. Overcrowded lanes. Frequent jacuzzi closures. Priority given elsewhere. Unexpected facility closures. Poor communication. Yet the membership price suggests you're paying for a premium aquatic facility. You're not. For less money, I can join a gym with a lap pool, a functioning jacuzzi, longer operating hours, fitness equipment, and significantly better availability. City of La Mirada wants to charge premium membership fees while delivering a consistently limited experience. The entire operation feels incredibly cheap. Cheap communication. Cheap availability. Cheap member accommodations. But somehow not cheap membership prices. If members are expected to share three overcrowded lanes, lose access for entire weekends, receive no meaningful communication, and watch amenities remain closed for weeks at a time, then management needs to answer a very simple question: What exactly are we paying for?

They have a large variety of equipment so almost every need can be accomplished. The classes are super popular and always full when I'm there. It can also get very crowded, but I always been to find a machine that I want to use. I assume that's why they took the gym out and replaced it with more weights, as demand was probably exceeding what they could provide in the main room downstairs. The staff is hit or miss on their knowledge. They seem very segmented, only certain people with special training can help with certain things. This can make it frustrating when you just want a simple answer. The machines are clean, and there's a mix of (now) older and newer machines. I wish all the cardio machines could link to your smartwatch to track your workout. And while they have several TV's and are more than happy to change the channel for you, you're not able to listen to any of them, so you're stuck reading the closed captioning. They aren't inexpensive if just walk in off the street, but they do offer an occasional special which can be a really good deal. Finally, people have had their cars broken into, so make sure you don't leave anything valuable in your car!

It might seem like a small thing, but having someone greet you with a good attitude every time makes a big difference, especially on those days when you're dragging yourself in to work out. The mens room can get real bad, which is confusing because it can also be very clean on other days. My biggest compliant would be the treadmills. LA Fitness needs to replace all of them. They are antique, with old tech and takes a few minutes to warm up to what you want the workout to be. Many half work, don't have a fan that is functional and some can just change the workout it the middle of the training. Management should take better care of the gym and corporate should invest more in making the experience more consistent.

What really stood out to me is how patient and calm he is with kids who aren't naturally comfortable in the water. My boys had their fair share of tears and hesitation in the beginning, but Coach Nav never pushed too hard or got frustrated. Instead, he knew exactly how to encourage them, build trust, and make them feel safe. As someone whose career involved working with children, I value this even more. Coach Nav's ability to connect with my boys, read their emotions, and still keep them moving forward was so impressive. His rapport with them made all the difference. Now both of my boys are not only swimming, but they're confident and happy in the water. It's honestly night and day from where they started. Coach Nav has that rare balance of discipline, kindness, and experience that kids respond to right away. If you're in Irvine, specifically the Great Park area, and want your kids to learn how to swim the right way - with patience, safety, and confidence - Coach Nav is hands down the best choice.
