Dynasty downtown is one of the most affordable place for dim sum and Chinese dinner banquets in Edmonton. However, I'd only give them 7.3/10 considering the quality of the food, service, and decor. read more

It's been ages since I have dined here in person, but the last few months, Dynasty has become our go to place to order from when we're in the mood for dim sum. I live in a part of the city where there is a huge gap in the market, not considered part of the south because of proximity to the river, but too far south to be considered central, so the number of places that will deliver to my home is extremely limited. However, Dynasty delivers anywhere in the city and that is a big plus in our books given the current circumstances. Ordering is easy, even if you don't speak cantonese. If you prefer to order in English, you can text your order or call the cell phone. While phoning the restaurant's mainline, depends on who is available to answer the phone for the day. They have a bunch of great promos going on that change from time to time, but currently, it's 20% off their entire menu and if you spend over $45, you also get to select a rice or noodle dish (from 4 options) for free. And delivery is free. While the take out menu is redacted and not the full menu, I think most of the popular items are available, so you should be able to find what you are looking for! The food always comes fresh and packed nicely, each in it's own respective container, and plenty of sauce as well. If you want extra you can probably ask for more, but usually what they provide is enough for us. Their pricing is really great value and you get a generous portion of food for the price. The only downside is there is no option to pay in advance, so you pay upon delivery and they have mobile merchant terminal, so paying with credit card/debit is possible, and I would imagine preferred as that would be the more contact less way to pay. read more

Probably one of the best dim sum places I ever had tried and I am a visitor from Los Angeles where I had tried variety of good dim sum from San Gabriel Valley. Came here with a group of 12 on a Sunday and they were very efficient to seat us promptly. Service was good (knowing that part of the dim sum culture is you flagging the servers all the time) but everyone was really nice. As far as the dim sum itself we had pretty much everything: siomai, shrimp balls, tofu with fried shrimp, bao, pork bun, sweet bun, chicken feet, taro nest balls, egg tarts, book choy, radish, etc. overall everything was so good and tasty. I highly recommend this place!!! read more

Excellent dim sum quality and selections, very tasty and fresh, very reasonably priced. Love their 3-course Peking duck for dinner, but get sold out fast, may need to pre-order so you won't be disappointed. Best value in town, but may need some patience when they are busy. Convenient central location in Chinatown, lots of parking with security patrol on site for our peace of mind. read more

I've been to dynasty every time my mom and I craved dim sum. All the servers are always friendly, which is a plus! The food there is alright. It is the typical dim sum. The food portions like the pork and shrimp dumplings are slightly larger than the typical dumplings. It is filling, but a little too greasy. The tea was able to cut through heaviness of the food. read more

Service: 4/5 Kitchen Speed: 5/5 Decor: 3/5 Food Quality: 4/5 Value: 4/5 This is the place to hold banquets in Chinatown. While the decor is starting to feel a bit dated, the owner manages the kitchen himself to ensure that food is delivered in the right order and in a timely fashion. In a few instances, the food almost came out too quickly. The dining area is big enough that its rare that you need to wait for a table and the sliding partitions allows them to configure a private area to the size required for your event. The price here is a little more than your average Chinatown place but all in all the dining experience is worth it. Also, if you're booking a larger event here, there are a lot of extras that they throw in for free to make sure your event goes well including a dedicated head waiter that manages your banquet from beginning to end and ensures the kitchen delivers at the right time and that your needs are met. read more

This place never dissapoint! I got here with my family after the noon rush on a Sunday and there's no line ups, a table ready for 6 people, and the best thing not having to pay for parking! Parking free both on street parking and in their parking lot. Food also came within 5mins so also no wait, very pleased with the service. I didn't have to ask for more hot sauce or soy sauce, tea and hot water was always full. The food was fresh, and good big portions for your buck. My favorites are the shrimp dumplings "ha gow", pork "Shi mai." We also ordered some food like crab balls, which were amazing so full of flavors. The shrimp rolls and beef with soy sauce were really good, shrimp pate with green peppers and the taro fried dumplings were my favorite. read more

I attended a dinner at the restaurant and it was a full house. The food of about 10 dishes came out over a span of 2 hours. The quality of the food was alright but compared to other Chinese restaurants in the city, it would not be in my top 3. Some of the dishes did not have much taste but I think when you are serving this many people it's difficult to have each dish tasting good. The dishes I liked best were the sweet and sour fish, and chicken. The venue is decent for a large banquet of 400-500 people but it can get cramped with little room to move between chairs and tables. There's a stage and dance floor area. The bathroom was clean but some of the stalls are small where you can barely open the stall door without wiping the side of your pant against the toilet. Likely won't be back anytime soon unless it's for a special event that I'm attending here. read more

This place is just okay for dim sum, nothing too great. The restaurant is one of the bigger ones in the city, lots of parking free on the street or in one of the lots otherwise it's paid parking behind the building. Just make sure you check all the signs. The carts come around with a variety of dumplings, buns, rice rolls, sticky rice and some deep fried items. Most of the items are $3.75 or $3.95, and I believe they charge for Chinese tea per person. The food tastes okay but the service isn't great, you may need to request your refills of water or tea or hot sauce more than once before you get it. The washroom is a bit cleaner than some other restaurants and there are quite a few stalls. Lots of staff on duty so they come around often to clear off the empty plates. As long as there is no wait time for a table, you can eat within one hour. read more

This restaurant must be a major changes of chefs. No service foods are so bad. Never again I step foot into this place. My rating only 1/2 a star. read more

Came here with a group for dim sum, first time I'd tried this location. Good: they have a parking area around the back; they have tons of room. Friendly servers too. Bad: dim sum was only average, nothing amazing. I've tried dim sum in many different places, from Sydney Australia to Kuala Lumpur to San Diego, and multiple places around Edmonton, and while this was far from the worst I've had it was also nowhere near the best. Their dumplings weren't particular tasty and the har gow (shrimp) tasted a little fishy and dry. So far Golden Rice Bowl down on Gateway still wins hands down for dim sum in Edmonton. read more

Went her on a Sunday night with a large group to celebrate a soccer tournament thing. Our little shin dig happened to be at the same time as someone's wedding celebrations which was an interesting experience. Anyways, on to the food. So many dishes kept on coming out. The table must have had 9 dishes total. We had: - Sweet and sour pork with tripe and some other asian meats - Mayo shrimp with peaches - Seafood soup (not sure what it's actually called but it's delicious) - Fried fish with spices and red/green peppers - Soy sauce chicken - Bird's nest with chicken and vegetables (peas, carrots, celery) - Lobster with chow mein noodles - Chinese mushrooms with bok choy - Seafood fried rice Service was typical of Chinese restaurants (minus points for seeing the waiter go into the washroom and not wash his hands properly - nasty). Food is average. Prices are cheap. Wouldn't be my top pick for chinese food in Edmonton but it's decent. read more

I was invited to join friends for Dim Sum on a Saturday. We wanted to make reservations for 11 am but were told they do nit take reservations for 11 or later. We had to make them for 10:45. The food was your typical Dim Sum fare with a few different offerings such as the "Chinese donut" fried dough inside a moist rice wrap and fried taro root stuffed with bbq pork. The service was slow. Not surprising as the restaurant is huge. We had to try and get the attention of some servers as they pushed their trolleys of food anywhere but near us. I recommended that you go with someone who either had eaten there before or speaks Chinese ad several of the servers do not speak English well and dining was an adventure as we didn't know what we were eating. It was hard for the two children with us who had nut allergies. Their parents basically had to see if I reacted before the girls could eat some of the things (yes, I have nut allergies too). The food was very good. Ask to try the Oolong tea, it is a delicious alternative to their tasty jasmine tea. The price is not too high in comparison to other Dim Sum locations. I did use the washrooms and the owners must have read the other Yelp reviews. The women's washroom was spotless! I highly recommend you make reservations. It is a popular restaurant! read more

It's no secret - I'm a fan of Dim Sum, even if I rarely get a chance to go out with friends and have some. Recently, I had a chance to go to Dynasty with a few friends. And on more than one occasion! A rare treat indeed. And you know what? It wasn't bad. Oh, it's nothing to write home about - but it was good, solid Dim Sum. As has been my experience at every Dim Sum I've ever attended, language can be a bit of a barrier. Fortunately, we have a friend who's both fluent in menu, and the usual Dim Sum organizer, so it works out for us. The space itself is large, and even when it's packed it doesn't feel cramped. And it will get packed, so show up early if you're going for breakfast or brunch. Yeah. Dynasty Century Palace is probably not the best Dim Sum location in the city, but it's hardly the worst. The food was good both times I went, and the servers were pleasant, so I do recommend it. Oh, and the BBQ Pork Buns are amazing. I'd marry them if it wasn't illegal. And weird. read more

So I'm pretty torn about this place generally. For one I know that the health and safety record of this place isn't amazing. For another I've had really varied experiences here. That said whenever I've been here, it has been for special events with a group of people and in general these events have been really quite great and/or quite delicious. I love the really varied food options that they serve here and just how well they can handle large group events. I like the interior decor and the dishes. The service can be pretty variable. This location is in a really run-down mall and the area itself doesn't feel all that safe or vibrant after dark, but I don't avoid this area especially when I have an excuse to visit for some delicious Chinese food. Usually I've been there for 10 course meals which are always way more food than I need to be eating but it's a sometimes treat that is worth having. So there's that! :) I don't avoid this place. I don't seek it out. I think the food is generally really delicious, but I know that the service is middling. I've had better. I've had worse. And usually when I finish a meal here, I'm pretty darn full and happy. But I guess a lot of that is the fact that I'm usually here with a group for a 10 course meal. And I will admit that the owners are pretty awesome when it comes to handling groups and making our groups feel welcome. read more

4/5 for food, variety and quality 4/5 for service, especially in the mids of Lunar New Year 5/5 for seating, very short wait time! 2 thumbs up for the Lion Dance! A very cultural and festive display of celebration of the Lunar New Year! Dynasty has often been the choice for dim sum in our many family gatherings. Yesterday, we were there again to celebrate round 2 of CNY. We were surprised to find the cast & crew from Quon Dynasty, or Lingnan there. I've never been to Lingnan but meeting them in person, I find they are much less edgy then the tv show portrays. As for the food, I find the portions were small but tastes deli'sh! This is not an upscale restaurant. Coming casually and with an open mind would be best. The ladies with the dim sum carts will point out what they have available. As for table service - expect much less attentive service in comparison to other restaurants. Simply because dim sum's typically a more self sufficient experience, which allows you to focus on the ones you're dinning with! read more

If you've never had dim sum at a large-scale Chinese restaurant before, you're in for an experience. It's Good Buddy times five. Dearly-deceased Noodle Noodle times ten. Carts trundle past with speed and determination. Your tea, then water, then chili sauce is set down minutes apart, without ceremony or question. Chopsticks fly, noise assaults your ears, and you become mildly disconcerted because you have no idea what's going on, who you're talking to, and what's in that basket you just ordered. Dynasty is located on the second floor of Chinatown's Pacific Rim Mall and there are enough tables inside to feed the whole population of Bandar Seri Begawan. If you visit the restaurant at peak times (weekends, 10am-noon), the dim sum service is out in full force. Carts will fly by your table. Cross your fingers that the siu mai hasn't run out before it reaches your corner of the room. The service, while abrupt, is efficient. Ask for what you need and you'll almost always get it. Like the chili sauce? They might just bring you a half-bowl, if you ask nicely enough. The dim sum isn't bad. It can be quite oily, which is the main downfall. The siu mai is tasty, but glistens in the fluorescent lighting. The deep fried shrimp dumplings are a consistently good staple of the dim sum experience; they're served with mayo, but don't let that deter you noobs out there. They're extremely tasty. The har gow, my co-favourite item along with the siu mai, are well-made and petite - little balls of shrimp covered in an almost-transparent, papery dough. Dynasty's can be a bit sticky, but they're still very good. I'm not a fan of the spare ribs and chicken feet, but the rest of the table attested to their tastiness. My English father and Italian boyfriend devoured them, while myself and my Chinese mother chose to play it safe. The sticky rice is alright, although I've had much better. It's fine if you lather it in a ton of chili sauce, but is otherwise quite tasteless. The best part about the meal, in this case, was the fact that it cost less than $60 for five people, which is a huge bargain for decent dim sum. It might not be the best and might be a little too oily to consume on a regular basis, but it's cheap and cheerful. And sometimes it's nice to have brunch amidst a rowdy, discombobulated mess of people, just to spice things up a little bit. read more

You are gonna be in for a treat if you like Dim sum. I was there for a lunch on a Saturday. Restaurant is big and it is crowded. I guess they are always packed in the weekends. Good place to try out new things in a group. Dim Sum was delicious. To my surprise, I find that the desserts are even good. The restrooms are really "Nasty" and I wonder how they manage to run this big restaurant without having their restrooms cleaned. If you are going to try out this restaurant for first time, I would recommend you to go with someone who is really good with Chinese food. I felt that sometimes the servers do not listen to you and tend to fill up your table with whatever they can. I was in an adventures mood to try out their infamous chicken feet . It was not bad ! Over all this restaurant is not a bad place to try out something new in a group! read more

I ordered a seafood special with noodles on the side and they gave an extra side of noodles in my bag. I would never eat here again. read more

Went here instead of my usual Urban China for dim sum because we had a bigger group and didn't want to wait as long for a table. The food is OK, but most of the time I have been here it seems to take a while for different carts to come around. As well, there seems to be more deep fried stuff here (spring rolls, onion cakes, battered shrimp). I also didn't see any egg tarts come around the whole time we were there....my way of ending dim sum. The pro is that it is a bigger space, so wait times isn't as long, especially if you are looking for a big table. I would go again if we have a huge group, otherwise, I prefer Urban China for dim sum, as I find their food a bit better and due to it being smaller more carts coming around....and they have my fave every time....egg tarts! read more

I went to hang out with my kung fu group, which mainly consists of Caucasian people. They were offered forks right away which everyone rejected because they did not need any which was fine. I felt the experience at the dynasty extremely pushy. The waitresses with the carts would put food on the table practically placing anything they could. If you did not say no right away they would leave it there and take the card and stamp it. I was very offended. In a normal dim sum restaurant they show their stuff from the cart and don't force it on the table. I do not think it helped that my colleagues did not know what they wanted either. Luckily my table wasn't too picky about their food. Other than our "food fight", the food was not bad. I was happy that they had congee which was quite good. The restaurant was quite spacious and filled up fast. Maybe with a smaller group I would go back again but only if someone coerced me. read more

Was just here for a banquet style dinner. We had a full 10 course meal and I was actually pleasantly surprised. The dishes that stood out was the deep fried shrimp with jelly fish, the crispy chicken and the steamed fish. Eek no kidding. There are some positives and I guess I better start with that....The price here is not so bad, there are Chinese restaurants that have crazier prices. Also there have been some good events that occur here and tones of room. Well and thats pretty much it. The service is not exactly the best, they only come do something when asked to. However they at least do things here...read my other reviews. The building itself is just gross, just GROSS. We saw them put paper in the food. Seriously not only that, there is a stage and there are alot of shitty events, such as old asian people thinking they can sing...really who wants to listen to this crap! Biggest headache of my life. To add insult to injury is get ready for the salties food on earth. Its like the chef have no taste buds and have to salt everything to death. You can probably get serious hypertension in this place. Great Dim Sum! Well prepared and served hot. One the best dim sums I've been to Edmonton. Not a lot of fried and breaded food, like others. The dim sum makes great use of rice noodle wrap, for many dishes. As my first-ever dim sum experience, the Sunday morning meal I had this weekend with a professor of Chinese history was the best it could possibly be. Dynasty Century Palace, a huge dining room on the second floor of a Chinatown mini-mall, was completely packed by the time we left with more lined up at the door. I'm not a meat-eater and have a shellfish allergy so was grateful my dining companion was able to navigate the endless stream of carts passing by, explaining items and noting which ones sometimes have a bit of shrimp snuck in for flavouring. Baskets of dumplings, a vat of squid, gelatinous squares of turnip cake, deep-fried shrimp and dishes of little green blobs that looked like the bad guys in Dragon Warrior were on constant parade by friendly waitresses. Along with an endless pot of red tea, we had a plate of vegetables - a variety of mushrooms, celery, etc. - wrapped in pastry, along with a specially ordered plate of crunchy gai lin in garlic sauce. Our selected pastry offerings were custard tarts - good, but inferior to the Portuguese variety - and sesame sticky rice balls with sweet lotus root in the centre. With each item, the waitress would place a stamp on the bill. Not being well-versed in dim sum, I don't have anything to compare this experience to but thoroughly enjoyed myself. And the hundred-plus other diners packing the room are a good indication that this spot is a good one. read more

Nothing is as amazing as going for a 8-10 course meal at Dynasty either for a Charity Event or a Wedding when you haven't eaten all day long. It's really fun and exciting here when they have there parties. There's a area to set up for the performers and speakers, a dance floor, and an area for volunteers to set up there own whatevers. They have enough space for whatever you think of you need to do. I especially like the entrance area where they have a displace of floral arrangements and decor so you can take a simple picture. You can also do all your greeting and sorting out of arrangements because they give you enough space to do so. Once in awhile I come here for Dim Sum, but I'm usually here for the dinners. The food and the service here is mediocre, but what makes it up is the company of people gathering together to celebrate an event. Most of there dishes were flavorless and greasy, but the portion was significantly generous. Everyone always gets to bring a box of food home after. The fried rice and noodles were really plain and simple. The fish was little overcooked. The lobster didn't seem like it was killed on the spot... The Crispy Chicken was one of the better dishes. There's not really any food presentation here but they do bring the food out in a orderly fashion and on time as requested. Sometimes I overlook the fact that it's kinda uncomfortable to move around because they squish all the round tables together so it would fit everyone. I guess this is an opportunity to get to know your neighbors a little bit. read more

I attended a Twitter gathering at Dynasty Century Palace for dim sum. I am glad our host was Asian, as he was able to translate what all the different dishes were that were being brought to our table. As a non-pork and non-seafood eater, my choices were rather limited. The onion cakes were too soft and chewy. I had a beef roll with ground beef in a soft wrapping, in what appeared to be soy sauce. Despite the unappetizing appearance, I had one beef ball. The texture and taste of beef was almost indistinguishable. Other items that other people at my table were able to eat looked dubious, but no one was complaining. The best part of the meal was the small coconut cocktail bun, which you can get at any Chinese bakery. Dim sum items are reasonably priced at $3.25 an item, but our pot of tea was $10! I don't think I would come back here, at least not for dim sum. I have heard their meals ordered off the menu for dinner are of better quality. read more

Came here for dimsum on Sunday morning. We were seated very quickly. The food carts come around and we start eating almost instantly. We ordered all the usual dishes (shrimp rolls, Sui mai, ha gow, chicken feet ect) everything was mediocre, nothing amazing. We then started ordering other dishes by appearance. It just got worst and worst. Customer service here is very bad. The hostess and one male server was probably the better ones. Everyone else was very hesitant to get hot sauce, water for whatever reason. We had to ask multiple times just to get something! The worst part was when I wanted to get some dishes to go for my aunt and uncle, it was pretty much impossible. I asked one female server and she just told me to wait until the cart comes and then ask for a take out box... We waited for about 25 minutes and the cart didn't come by yet. We asked the hostess and she got the take out quickly. Will not be coming back! read more

Went for the first time today. It was cheaper than I had expected, but with cheap price comes with cheap service. First of all, the plates and bowls they had set were not cleaned properly. Secondly, the servers or the cart-pushers were not that kind. I asked if they had a certain food item, seeing as how it had been a while and I had not seen it on any of the carts. The woman brushed me off by a flick of her hand and left. Not the kind of response I was anticipating. Thirdly, when the 'cha siu bao' we requested finally came, we found that the inside of it was still COLD. Aside from that, though, the rest of the food was up to standard. There was quite a variety of dim sum and it would probably be exciting for those who are willing to try new things. This restaurant is great if you enjoy the traditional style of dim sum restaurants and that Hong Kong feel. However, if you have higher standards than just mediocre food and poor service, this place will probably not be the one for you. read more

I've been here twice. The atmosphere is good for the novelty factor (big rotating tables and being served by the cart). The food however, is just medium. Everything tends to have a similar taste and texture. As a pescatarian, I found it hard to find something without meat in it. All that was available were shrimp items so I ate a lot of shrimp! I found it very difficult to understand the servers which is not a good thing when you have a limited diet. On the way out I saw a menu with an entire section of vegetarian items on it. The man behind the bar said next time I should tell him what I want and he will have it available. I wish I would have known that earlier. I may have given 3 stars. Overall, lots of deep fried food with similar tastes and textures (my husband agreed with this and he is a meat eater) and a noisy atmosphere but a very different way to eat at a very good price. read more

If there was a negative I would put that on. I went here with my brother since he said it was a good price for dimsum and decent but the service was horrible. We placed our order and other people came after us and their food came out before us. We were there for 45 min and nothing came out while others around us who came later came out 15 min prior. If it was busy I would of been ok, but it was probably 20% full or even less. Never have I felt so discriminated against. I was told before that if you weren't Chinese or didnt go with one the service would be bad, never believed it until it actually happened. I was going to give it 5 more minutes since 50 min was a ridiculous wait and nothing so we ended up walking out. This is also the restaurant that had multiple healthcare violations and fines on the news and newspaper. Here is the link if you want to look at it.
