Not sure when it opens to the public but I believe you do have to pay to enter. As you walk further down, you'll see a concession stand and another building with outside seating along with a hanging sign that says Westand Lions Club. And There's a pond area with a fountain in the middle. Lastly, there's a soccer field with a 2 lane track going around it - 1 lap is 0.5mi. Hines Drive runs through the center of the park and is wide enough to accomodate bikes. Some sections get a little tight, but you can steer back onto the asphalt path if you are on the right lane. Generally, heading west towards Ann Arbor has less traffic. At one point, a group of my friends took the trail onto connecting paths all the way to Ann Arbor. Aside from biking, the park has something for everyone. If you choose to drive, some areas have a parking alongside playgrounds, softball fields, golfing, gardens, and picnic area. Hines Park is the the great connector for numerous smaller parks. As with much of Michigan, the roads could be better maintained, but this green oasis is a gift to the greater Detroit metro area.

Garden City Park is located on the northeast corner of Merriman Rd and Cherry Hill just behind the…read moreGarden City Post Office. There are entrances to the park on Merriman Rd or Cherry Hill. The park is open daily until 10pm. There are many amenities including a civic ice arena, playscapes, picnic tables, covered pavilions and baseball diamonds complete with bleachers and lights for night games. My favorite feature is the 1.2 mile asphalt walking path that circles through the park and accommodates bikers/skaters in one direction and walkers/runners in the other. The only drawback is the squirrels who people have fed over the years to the point now where they walk right up to you asking for food. There are always people in the park but it's never too crowded. It is well kept and even has bags conveniently located for dog owners to use to clean up after their pets. If you live in the Garden City, Wayne, Westland, Inkster or Dearborn Heights area and enjoy outdoor recreation then this park should be on your list.

The main trail heading East connects to the ITC trail, before Lilley Rd., that heads North and to the I-275 bike/hide trail past Haggerty Rd. Eventually the main trail is supposed to be extended past the I-275 trail intersect to Hannan Rd.

The roads surrounding the park are dirt and it had just rained so getting in and out of the car wasn't pleasant. The basketball court had no rims and one of the backboards had fallen down. There were a few benches and the playground were in decent condition. At first I saw a board with measurement conversions and thought it was a learning thing. 3ft=1yd. On the back there's a height chart that you find at convenience stores or in police mug shots. That's weird. And one of the slides had a bullet hole in it. Looks like a .45 caliber fired from a house next to the park. That explains the height chart I guess. So it was a decent park but... We won't be back
