Beautiful park - well maintained, often quiet even though it's in an urban area. Gorgeous horses, trails, and peaceful spaces.

I will never get tired of Maybury State Park. It's my favorite place for a hike on the west side of metro Detroit. I come here throughout the year, but my favorite season to hike the various trails is in autumn. I spent around 4 hours walking several trails off the main paved walkway, and it was so picturesque with the changing color of the leaves. I can spend all day here. I can't believe this is my first time at this park. It's a nice walk among the trees and nature. We parked over by the walnut shelter area, we were looking for the famous archway. We had a nice open paced walk by the walnut shelter parking area. There's a playground nearby and the Maybury farm is also within view. We drove by the 8 mile entrance to find the archways. If it wasn't so dark by the time we found the archway, we would have done another walk by the trails near the archways. This path looks ideal for a shady walk among the trees. read more

I love everything about this park except for how close all the trails are to one another. There are horse, mountain bike, and walking trails that all overlap, and sometimes that can get very confusing! Especially if you're hiking with a dog who loves eating horse poop and you're worried about them getting in the way of speedy bikes! Other than that, this park is great! It is definitely a highly trafficked one so if you're trying to avoid people, this isn't the one to go to. The main hiking trail loop clocks in at about 3 miles, but you can definitely add on like a half mile or more depending on which parking lot you park in. Highly recommend for all activities! I know there's also a paved path as well that is even longer, so it's super accessible to all, which is awesome! :) read more

This is a free state park that is very clean and bathrooms and trails are well kept! I always love coming here with my dog because it has a wide variety of trails (paved and hiking) and the hiking are on the easier side. read more

Maybury State Park was on my list of parks to go and try out but never seemed to get the opportunity to go. I've been missing out, seriously the place is huge and trails are everywhere. They have walking trails, running and biking paths. Everything was cleaned and well maintained as well. The wooden decks and walking bridges are beautifully maintained and have sitting areas along the walk as well. Feeding stations are set up so if you feel the urge to feed the ducks or fishies go right ahead. Dogs are allowed as well as long as you keep them on a leash. It's really a hidden gem and a must experience park. Walked about 3 miles and saw plenty of deer, ducks, birds, beavers and of course the squirrels. They have numerous trails to choose from as well. Hard to easy to satisfy any walking, jogging or biking enthusiasts. A must try if you love nature and exercise. read more

Beautiful park! The playground was really nice but I wish there were more signs regarding a bathroom. I asked 3 separate people and none of them knew if there was a bathroom. Luckily, since it was regarding my kids, I had one available in my car for them to use. Nonetheless, I liked the newer playground. My kids could've played for hours! **During Covid** I'm very impressed with this park - so many trails to explore and several maps throughout the park. I greatly appreciate the benches being available throughout the whole paved trail please note there's no benches on the dirt trail. I will say if you have me problems you might want to bring and hiking stick to get you up little mini hills throughout the trail. -restrooms are available but they aren't being maintained fully due to the pandemic so heads up you might want to bring some toilet tissue but they were clean. I'll definitely probably be back with my hiking boots to explore more of the dirt trails. Happy hiking!!! read more

I took my girl for leaf hunt assignment for her school. Trail is well maintained and there were a lot of beautiful trees. It was very nice to see trees turning colors. Also there was a nice clean playground. My 4 years old enjoyed playing in there. I would definitely come back again and to hike and take more photos. What a beautiful state park. read more

We paid for the annual entry fee of $20. Parking is easy here, the trail is not very well marketed if you're here for a walk. We came door a walk and it was confusing and as people walked by many asked each other for directions. It's pretty, but not sure how often we will be back. read more

I love this state park. It is beautiful, well-maintained, and perfect for running, hiking, and walking. They're all different options depending what you're looking for. There is a paved area, as well as many trails through the woods. My biggest issue is I always get lost. There is signage but I still get confused. It's probably me not the park itself since some of my friends don't have this problem. There is also a unique history to this park in area. So make sure to take the time to read the signs and learn all about it. And if you have to pick a time to visit, I would say go in the fall or even once it starts snowing. Love this State park. Always clean. Walking trails are kept up. Quite a bit of cash has been spent on upgrades over the last couple of years. New playscape for the future adults, new pavilions, new path on Beck road, and a new maintenance building. There are a couple of ponds that have decks built over them allowing for fishing or quiet contemplating. The mountain biking trail is very popular. Also has a animal farm that is accessible from further west on 8 mile. This is a definite go to place in my book. read more

Maybury State Park is a great place to hike. Recently we took a nice long walk here and it was pleasant. It sure is a great place to do science and learn new things. There are flowing waters, ponds, marshes, fens and hills. The forest stands are varied and include oak and other hardwoods and pines in plenty. My favorite place is a small pond surrounded by pines. It is very small but has a beach - which is also very small - there is sandy soil here and the pines are very tall. From the tracks I found there the animals seem to like to use it as their watering hole. Plenty of tadpoles and frogs in the season to photograph (if you can get near to them) and study them in their natural habitat. read more

Me and my boyfriend where super bored one day and was like let's go walking. We heard this was a great place for cool trails. We decided to start on the main trial and slowly wonder off. We had a hard time navigating at one point but a nice old guy told us to take the long way towards the pound cuz it had a nice view. So we did just that. After discussing our deepest thoughts and how hot it was while we were running out of water we finally found the pound the nice guy was talking about. It was a beautiful place to sit and talk. The way back was tiring but I definitely got my steps in. I also liked the random squirrels that will randomly scare the crap out of you when your deep in the wood. 10/10 would recommend read more

I needed a place to get out and get some exercise and enjoy nature but not be so far from civilization that i couldn't find a road if i meandered too far off the path! I did the "full"hiking path and it came out to be about 3 miles on my trail tracker! Seeing all the colors in the fall was so wonderful and cheerful! There was enough people, even on a cool fall day, but not so many to make it unbearable and loud in the woods! Enjoy the parks, support the local nature! read more

I really enjoy this park. It's just down the road from us, plus my husband renewed my license tab with a park pass.. so really, I should be coming here a lot more than I do. Maybury has nice walking trails, great mountain biking and.. horse stables! I prefer my rides a little more fast paced so we don't really ride here, but if you just want to ride with a group at walking pace it's great for beginners and still fun. I like to swing by the stables for a few and watch/pet the horses, I just love them! It does get busy here on the weekends, so if you're looking for some more quiet along with your peace, come during the week if you're able. Maybury is quite a bit smaller than nearby Kensington, though both are great to visit if you're in need of some nature and outdoor fun. Also, if someone felt inclined to buy me a horse that would be great. I'll take an Appaloosa and I'll call it Freckles. That's all. read more

If you have a rec pass its "free." If not you have to pay 10 bucks for one before entering the park. There is plenty to do here from hiking, biking, horseback riding, to having picnics and bbqs. The park isn't as big as I thought but it is a fun place to see some nature. We came here on a rainy day so I definitely want to come back in a nicer day. read more

Visited here for pony rides. My younger child is three years old and this was the first ride. The staff was friendly and throughly supportive all the time, so we felt safe during the ride. Great experience for young children. read more

The paved trail is a pretty basic down and back setup which I'm guessing is about 1-1.5 miles round trip. If you have a stroller it's really your only option. There isn't really much to see on this section. Most other trails in maybury park are dirt roads with the odd horse passing by. read more

Maybe it was the sunshine, maybe the company, but I haven't felt this close to nature since 1990 when I went Whitewater Rafting in West Va, and our raft guide, Chuck, dubbed "the wild child" (I think it was self imposed)--delivered home made Moonshine to our campsite at dusk. Maybury has well groomed trails for hiking, terrific paved trails, and equestrian trails if you feel like riding. They have a plethora of picnic areas, and tons of little inlets off of the paths where you can stop your activity and just hang out with the sun on your face. A bonus is the sweet caterpillar monkey bars back toward the oak picnic area. Plus, clean bathrooms with vending machines outside, just in case you are a soda pop addict, and can't find your way out to get your fix. You need a state park pass to enter. They are only $25 for the year, and think about how many parks there are in Michigan! read more

The awesome parks around metro Detroit are it's best kept secret. Although Maybury is nowhere near as big as Kensington and Island Lake Park what it lacks in size it makes up in quality and character. At the beginning of a park there is a large farm with a petting zoo. There you will find rabbits, goats horses and many other animals. There are miles of hiking trails both paved and through the brush and a mountain biking course that is second to none in the area. I went here with my eight-year-old nephew and his family the other week, we had a great time walking around and using the large playground area to play tag with him. There is a park shelter that you can rent out that was currently in use for a kids birthday party. It reminded me of the great times in my youth when my parents would throw me birthday parties at the very same park shelter and lead us on treasure hunting trips scavenger-hunt style. I may be biased because my on childhood memories at this park but I would rank the Northwest metro Detroit parks like this: 1. Maybury State Park - Northville 2. Island Lake State Park (it has a bomb canoeing and mountain biking) 3. Lakeshore Park - Novi 4. Kensington State Park Although I've given a ranking I think all these parts are amazing. Anyone have a more extensive experience with Metro Detroit area parks? Any big ones I'm missing? Let me know what you think is the best! I would love to visit them. read more

This is a great park and great proximity to Northville, Novi, Plymouth, etc. Last weekend I went out on the Mountain Bike trail which I hadn't done for almost 10 years. The trail was great, very well groomed and a great ride. A couple weekends ago I checked out the fishing on the pond too. I spotted some monster bass so that may become my life's obsession to catch those suckers. Although they seem pretty content to let the little guys go for the bait. If you like the outdoors and live in the area, this is a place you must check out, sure not to be disappointed. read more

This place is awesome! I came by in preparation for a 5k race next weekend. I soon met a friendly runner who enthusiastically pointed me in the direction of the hiking trail - he kindly mentioned that it's mostly downhill, so the trip back would require some extra gas haha. Sweet. Anyway, he was right, but it was so beautiful I just couldn't care. Extra points given to all the lovely ladies who show up in full-on makeup for a walk in the state park with their designer dogs in tow. I love this place and I come here as often as I can. There's a ton of walking trails and mountain bike trails. There is a beautiful pond that you can walk to and theres almost always swans there swimming. Very peaceful and serene. The whole park is breath taking. There's public bathrooms, horse riding, picnic areas, and a small playground area for the children. You do need a state park permit to get in. They open everyday at 8am and close at dusk. I would highly recommend coming here. You can walk your dog here as well,but they must be on a leash! read more

Great State Park to train at. Plenty of trails to run and ride. Lots of fields...bathrooms, if needed, are in working order and usually pretty clean. Trails are great to run on, most of the Mountain Bike Riders are good people who don't mind in sharing the trail with runners. The only pain if you are there to train are the snot nosed horse instructors/ guides. They are quite loud, rude and think they own the entire park. I have found the best time to run the trails there is around 930am-12noon time frame on weekdays. Great place! This and Island Lake are well worth the rec passport. That being said, I don't think I have EVER seen someone working the gate there. read more

Perfect park for anyone commuting from the western detroit suburbs to Detroit, dearborn, or any of those areas. It is right on the way, bu this is also the reason it isn't getting a 5 star review. And it is nothing the park did wrong. It's just, right in the way. Beck road and 8 mile turn into parking lots during the hours i was commuting and i would fight the crowds to go running here before or after work. Other than that, the park is fantastic. Paths are well maintained, people and staff are friendly. It is seclusion in the heart of suburban detroit. ideal for a quick retreat. One last thing, and again no fault of the park, but people please clean up after your dog leaves a pleasant little pile on the trail. Nice paved trails here. Not a long route, but definitely smooth enough for inline skating or young bikers with training wheels.

Great place to just go and hang or bring your family and visit one of the few historic barns in Michigan. The kids will love the playgrounds and animals and it's a wonderful place to hike or ride bikes. For the more adventurous try the mountain bike loop which is a blast if you're up for it. read more

This trail is a very tough but fun trail it has a good amount of features but the thing that I personally didn't like was the tech parts because there was I think too many inclines and on those inclines there would be rocks tree stumps or broken bits although that is there this trail is very fun and can make you more confident in MTB read more

I've been here a couple times, once for a company picnic and most recently on a doggy meetup hike thingy. About a dozen of us trekked through the snowy trails throughout the park. You'll feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere, but the trails are good and fairly easy to hike. My old labrador and I walked for over an hour, enjoying the peace and quiet. No stickers required to get in during the winter, I guess. The park was clean, but the road to get in wasn't plowed out very well, so be prepared to use your fancy Michigan driving skills if you venture there in the winter. read more
