Over the years I have purchased a number of stereo components, TV's and systems from Mark and team at Dynamic Sound Systems. I can say that in every single case their recommendations have been 100% accurate. I approached them a few weeks ago with their recommendation for a new, best-in-class large screen TV. They recommended the Sony XR83-AJ90R. I did some research on the model and then placed my order. They sold me the tv at a cost below what I can buy on the internet and below the best sale price at Best Buy. When I told them what I wanted with this new set I was very specific in a few special demands - the most important being that I wanted to be able to use one single remote for everything - control of my surround sound, switching between apps (Netflix, Prime, and cable tv), and I wanted to be able to change channels on my Spectrum set-top box. I am happy to say that it all works as advertised. I went from 3 remotes to 1 - my wife loves me! I have used DSS for my 2 channel music listening room, and all of the components in my Home Theatre room, and I will be back for future upgrades to each of those systems. I broke the wiring to the cartridge on my record player so gave DSS a call. They told me to bring it in and they would take a look. Long story short it couldn't be fixed on the fly, but they legitimately tried and provided me with practical options. Didn't try to upsell and didn't even end up charging me for the evaluation. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!! Used this company just to install my surround sound equipment. Not only did they not do that correctly they don't even want to come back out to fix it! I live in Rancho Santa Fe so clearly distance is not the issue as others are reporting. One excuse after another! The last excuse before I decided to write this review which I never do was...... These guys are the best! I bought my Sonos home system from them 5 years ago and they were great with the design and install of the right system at the right price. I visited DSS over the Holiday vacation to San Diego, as they are a dealer for both the speakers and electronics (pre/amp) I was interested in. Walk-ins are welcome here, no appointment necessary, which is the other reason I decided to visit. The other store I was interested in visiting wanted to work by appointment only. That sounded like to much pressure for me as I wasn't committed to buying anything. I was first greeted by Mark (the owner) who was very pleasant and welcoming. I explained what I had come to hear and what I was looking to accomplish. Mark was very knowledgeable and offered some alternatives on the speaker side that he thought would make for a good comparison during my listening session. I then sat in the listening room with Joe Silva. This dude is one laid back cat. He obviously loves his job, especially the part where he gets to listen to music through nice gear and explain the nuances, with eyes closed :) All this is done with humility, honesty and respect. There is zero pretense here, which was perfect for me because I am no audiophile and I was looking for my first modest but serious stereo rig. I enjoyed listening (a whole lot) and in the process heard some new artists (to me) that I really enjoyed, one of which is Vienna Teng. What an artist. Anyway, I was never, not once asked how much I was looking to spend, or if I was planning on buying anything. I just listened, thanked Joe and Mark, and left. I returned twice during the Christmas / Holiday period and on my third visit ordered some gear. After knowing what others were charging on the web etc. I have to say that I believe that Mark was more than fair with the deal we ended up agreeing on. What I ordered: Kef LS50's speakers (pair) Peachtree NovaPre & 220 amp Pro-ject Debut Carbon They carry audiophile quality gear from the modestly priced equipment I purchased to the high end gear that I hope to move up to in the future. I was in the market to upgrade my current home theater system. Starting with the speakers. I wanted to compare the Paradigm line to the Kef line and Brian was super helpful in this process. My wife was with me for the speaker audition and Brian was great in explaining the differences so she could easily understand the technical differences and the sound improvement as we auditioned speakers higher up the line. He also made some great suggestions in terms of equipment matching with the Anthem line. I highly recommend DSS. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and not pushy at all. I found Dynamic Sound Systems with a google search for high end audiophile equipment in the Carlsbad area. I have now done business with them on three separate occasions and each time I have been impressed with their patience, expertise, and low pressure approach to selling. I entered the world of better quality sound with my first trip to the store. With each visit to the store I have been impressed with how they spend so much time with you to show you many different options within your budget. There's never any pressure to buy and they will set up as many different system configurations as are needed to show you exactly what you might be interested in hearing (or learning) that day. I have been to other stores all over San Diego County and Orange County and none of them have the patience or approach that you will find at DSS. (I was really put off by high pressure approaches that are found at some of the stores......) DSS has also gone above and beyond the call of duty to ensure 100% satisfaction with my system and components. Mark (the owner) is always a cell phone call away to answer questions. Joe has also been very helpful on several technical issues as well. BEWARE!!!!! We built an 8,000 sq ft. home 4yrs ago and we hired DSS (as they are otherwise known by) to do our complete audio and visual surround sound (indoor and outdoor), along with building out and designing our dedicated home theater. We thought we could trust them, as we as they came highly regarded from a close friend. Allow me to mention we have very busy lives and no time to micromanage. As I said, 'thought'... We encountered real issues during the process and through today, to which we are paying for. I have a long list of issues, but to keep it simple for this review, I will include what I believe would help in making your decision. 1. The layout design of our dedicated home theater is completely wrong. There are specs and ratios that installers use as a guide base when building out home theaters, it became obvious to us they did not adhere to it. Our Da Lite screen is the wrong size and the placement of the screen on our upholstered walls is at the wrong level. This is in comparison to the distance from the screen to the seats, and how high the seats sit above the main floor (we have stadium seating), and viewing level. So now, while seated you absolutely have to recline in order to comfortably watch the screen (to avoid a neck strain). When approaching them with this concern, they refused to absorb the costs to fix it. They argued (or shall I say yelled) that it was done correctly, even while I was speaking to the Da Lite engineer, who they refused to speak to. The DSS installer was so offended that I would question his work, that he rudely stormed off. I spoke to the top rated home theater companies in Los Angeles to obtain their professional opinion. They were the ones who educated us through the process, and all were in agreement that it was installed incorrectly. 2. Our great room surround sound shuts down completely if the volume is too high, and by too high I mean less than 1/2 the volume. Which we are having another company fix. 3. They did not clean up after them selves. They left their trash in our garage along with boxes upon boxes. They left wires sticking out of walls outside, which our electrician fixed. They did not put back the wall panel that covers the electronic boxes. They did not show us how anything worked once they were done. I had to call them and have them walk me through how to use everything. 4. We continue to have issues. For the first two years we would have them come back to fix everything, since they were the ones who did the installation. They charged us $89 per visit, even within the first 3 months! They did say, to avoid this service charge they could address the issue with me over the phone, well, trying to get them to call me back is like pulling teeth! And they are RUDE!!! I Like to handle everything with sugar, where my husband handles things with spice, therefore he could no longer deal with them because he was fed up. He had no more patience. And even with sugar, they were the rudest people I have ever had to work with. Also, they rarely return calls, and when informing them of the several messages I left for them to return my call, they become annoyed. It is also very challenging getting someone to come out to your home, let alone having them show up. Their lack of communication with one another is astounding! Do not waste your money with them, unless you would like to continue to throw your money down the drain in repairs. read more

However, this time they didn't want to come all the way out to my 92127 area code to take a look at the outdoor sound system I was interested in putting in. Just wanted to say how great it is to have this combination of quality equipment and expertise available to me. I have been working with Mark and his team for over 20 years now on several versions of both 2 channel systems and three versions of complete home theatre systems. I have always relied on good advisors for my major decisions and am very happy to have these guys in my corner. My current theatre is an 11 channel B&W, Classe, Lyngdorf, Aurrender, Audioquest, McIntosh system. As with any major purchase there are always many choices and options available which can be a bit daunting - especially when the technologies are constantly changing. This is where you need an advisor you can trust. I have always felt DSS puts my concerns and interests before the sale and I've always been happy long after the dust settled which is the true test of a good system.
