I hope people are checking out Yelp when they want to buy a TV or have one repaired, because there's no one like Mike. I had never been to his store, and it turned out he was in the same mall as my nail salon, so I dropped on by. The front of the store is quite simple but cushy, some nice armchairs, a nice rug, TV, and some lovely flower arrangements done by his wife Alma, who is a flower arranger. You can see through to the back room where all the repair magic takes place: another large room with all his equipment. Everything is neat and clean and orderly. Mike told me a story I thought I'd share. 5 people came in around Black Friday and ordered big screen TVs. They they saw an ad at a big box store for several hundreds left. Mike had already told them that they would find the TVs for less because he's a small business and can't compete with the big stores. But he also told them that they would get lousy service and the store probably wouldn't have the TV in stock, it would be on back order. Well, the people indeed found the TVs cheaper at a big box store and canceled their orders with Mike. It cost him $150 per order to cancel the orders, but he didn't charge them, he felt it was a business expense. Several days later, sure enough, each of the customers came back and said that the big box store did NOT have the TVs in stock, even though they said they did. So now they have re-ordered from Mike. OK, so that's the catch: you can find it cheaper, dealing with people who don't know that much about it and who won't fix it if it breaks. Mike gives hands on service: he will come to your house to check it out, he will repair in the store, he will do whatever. He gives personal service which is why he has been in business for a long time. He even told me that he would take back one of the TVs (that I bought from him) on a consignment basis because I think I don't need one in that room. I love me some Yelp. Got a new flat screen for Christmas, been sitting in the box for a while, and we finally got around to freeing up living room space and painting. Without having a good drill and a way to find the wall studs, we realized we needed a service to help us get the new 65" up and running. A few inquiries on this site and we got a number of replies with wildly varying prices and availabilities. Two calls and a very fair price later and we picked Encinitas Television. Day before the Super Bowl, Mike (the man behind the establishment) asked if he could come by and see firsthand what he had to work with so he could get an idea on how to proceed. About five minutes glancing around and he stated he could take care of it right then and there for less than what he had originally estimated. Seriously, $125 to mount our new television up on the wall. Other places were coming in around $250 to as high as $400. I'm about to buy a new refrigerator for $500 and installing a television should NOT come close to price in comparison. Encinitas Television was clean, quick, and we were happy with the charge. We recently did remodel. Original AV guy that our designer recommended was not available. A good friend gave us Mike's info at ETV. Things happen for a reason. After lots of interactions with all of the other vendors, the following items were installed / connected: Panasonic D-ILA 4K UHD Projector Draper 119" drop down screen Paradigm 5.1.4 (9.1) Atmos speaker system (10 new speakers) Integra (Onkyo) head unit with integrated Sonos Two new Sonos Amps Power conditioner Integrated pro.v remote to control it all In addition: 1 GB wireless with 3 access points and whole house coverage Elimination of cables boxes (6) and transition to streaming / Roku ($400 per month to $150!). Fixing 2 x sets of outdoor speakers and adding them to Sonos system Replacing overhead speakers in formal living room and adding to Sonos Getting all 32 Sonos stations to be integrated with the system The drop down screen was integrated into the custom designed TV built-in for our existing 78" curved TV. All I can say, is that it all came together perfectly at the end. Have TV for normal stuff and theater size screen for games and movies. So cool. A few pics attached. Tom did the remote and said it was possibly the most complex system he had ever done. I was out of town when he did it. I came home and the remote set-up was so "intuitive" that I didn't even need to ask questions on how to use it. Everything works and watching tv/movies is now an experience. My Problem: Called Encinitas TV about repairing my tuner driving my home 'entertainment system'. Michael explained that my 25+ year old tuner, would need to be be shipped to Long Beach for someone to tell me whether the tuner could be repaired and the cost. He asked some additional questions and I shared that our wifi was spotty, and we had difficulty changing channels with our main TV. Solution: Long story made slightly shorter, Michael came, made some recommendations. Next, we met with him in his store so we could see the equipment and get an estimate for the work. Last week, Michael and Tommy came and installed the equipment. They are a great team. The installation required Tommy to go into our crawl space under our house and in our attic. We bought a new Denon receiver, Blu-Ray, 55" Samsung, and rear surround speakers from Mike to go with the existing speakers that I have had for years. Mike came to the house and installed everything and did a great job. He programmed the universal remote and took the time to make sure the family understood how everything works. He gave us great prices on the equipment and even upgraded the blu-ray player to a 3D player for the same price as the regular one because someone bought ours from his shop and did not want to delay our install to order another one. This is not a television repair shop. You will get charged $75 to be told the television can't be repaired and then you will be offered "free e-waste disposal". After i paid the $75 and waited a week to get my television back (by the way, the television is for my renters), I promptly took it to another shop and got it fixed for $150. read more
