I do not like inspectors who will "cover up" problems to get my business. I don't want my clients to purchase a home that has problems! All Inspectors have limitations; it is the nature of their business. If you wish to hire engineers, electricians, plumbers, contractors, etc., on a one-by-one basis to know every inch of a house, you are free to do so. I insist on my buyers to have home inspectors even on new construction and we have always found a problem or two; nothing in life is perfect. I hired National Property Inspections (Smithtown Location) at the advice of my real estate agent Candi. The WORST advice I have ever took from a professional. I am in my home a year and a half and it has been a complete NIGHTMARE! Thus far I have had to replace a deck, remove a shed, re-vent a pellet stove, redo the entire electrical panel (it was faulty and illegal) and worst of all (after my family kept getting sick) had to reconstruct three rooms where there was mold from a leak that was not picked up on the inspection report. Much to my fault I did not research home inspectors. Unbeknownst to me, as I was a first time buyer, hiring a licensed property inspector is much different then hiring an engineer for your home inspection. Licensed home inspectors are not as knowledgeable as engineers and they absolutely cannot assess a home to the degree an engineer can assess. Hardest lesson ...as per my attorney there is no financial recourse with a licensed inspector because they are not engineers, so therefore, not liable for things they missed, didn't know or didn't report on. I have spent thousands of dollars fixing all the things that were not reported in my report. Engineers initially are more costly but in my opinion the ONLY way to go when making such a important purchase. Had I hired an engineer I would have saved, at this point, an additional $60,000. Do yourself a favor and do what I didn't do, educate yourself on home inspections. read more

I bought my first house in May of 2017, the inspector (who's name i dont remember) was very nice, however i was told he could not inspect the inside portion of my AC unit because it had a door and he wasnt allowed to open it. i offered to open it for him to which he said he couldnt do that either. fast forward 6 months later & my AC unit goes out. The home warranty i paid so much money for says they wont cover the repair because the problem was caused by a lack of maintenance by the previous owners (which you cant see to the naked eye) thank you for contributing to my husband and i having to shell out $6000 that we didnt really have for a COMPLETELY NEW UNIT because this one was shot & barely made it through our first summer. read more

Brett and Tina came to inspect our home a few months ago. They did an absolute awesome job. They were very knowledgeable and thorough. They provided a very detailed report within 24 hours of the inspection. They worked as a duo in a timely manner and answered all questions we had. I was very happy and very impressed. They were great to work with. However, I deducted a star because the amount of phone calls I have received from solicitors that use their name as the source of getting my number is non stop. I'm at the point where I blocked these callers. The solicitors calling are pushy, they want to know if you closed yet, I said multiple times I wasn't interested, they keep going. Having my phone ring at work all day is infuriating. I don't know if they're aware of this, or if this is part of the contract that I didn't read but it's really, really frustrating. After super storm Sandy our lives and our home were devestated. My wife and I contacted NPI and they saved our financial lives. NPI was able to get us 100% of our flood insurance. My husband and I had NPI scheduled for an inspection on a house and it fell through so when we found another house we called them up. It was a Sunday, they were there which shocked my husband because he insisted it was a Sunday so I shouldn't bother even trying. Not only were they open, but had al of my information in the system from the previous time which made it super simple and very speedy. They texted me to say they were running a few minutes behind and then updated me that they were there, very efficient. They were courteous, knowledagble and very reasonably priced. We love that they warranty services which we hadn't see with other inspectors as well as take ID's of all appliances and keep them in their system letting you know of any recalls. horrible inspection, very brief they missed a lot of things . This was recommend by real estate agent and they wanted to make a sale without any problem . we brought the house 11/2014 and so far had to replace 1 central AC unit , leak in master bed room bath which was due to leaking shower pan that required redoing tile and new shower pan . oil burner that needs to be changed in future.Do your self a favor stay away from national property inceptions. read more

Waste of money - spend your dollars elsewhere. Jim and team completely missed a hole in our home's oil burner during the inspection. Our home was minutes away from burning down a few months later because of their gross failure and negligence.
