This cuts the length down to 25 meters each way. I would recommend going during school hours. After kids are out of school there are so many local swimming teams practicing, it can be hard to find a lane free for laps. There is also a separate pool for diving. They lost the key and it took an hour of everyone waiting out in the hot sun to finally let us in and another long wait to actually get us in the system. Fort Gordon is changing their policy for who can get on base and one military ID for the car isn't going to be enough. Everyone over the age of 18 needs a military ID or must get a visitor's pass. Just a heads up because it could spoil a trip to Fort Gordon if you aren't prepared in advance. Back to the pool... they have a larger pool complete with diving boards, a huge slide, basketball hoop and plenty of open space to swim and life jackets available for anyone to use. As you can imagine, this pool gets busy but there are lifeguards on duty to keep it under control! There's a separate baby pool and the splash pad attracts mostly the younger kids (be warned there's a mandatory break every hour and then the splash pad is over run with big kids). As far as the splash pad goes, it's a fun area and has a cute little slide that even adults can fit down to help toddlers. With that being said, I feel as though the pressure of the water coming out of these spouts are way too high! I was walking through with my 17 month old and I can't tell you how many times I was blasted in the face unable to see! Maybe it's because the height is adjusted for kids but they have to know adults will be going in to supervise. There are plenty of chairs to sit on with the overhead shade things ( not sure on official name) and ones directly in the sun. The ones we used are in eyesight of splash pad but if they had lockers, I would've preferred to put our stuff in those instead. They don't really have a locker room, it more of a bathroom with a bench in it. I was surprised they didn't have showers available. The price is $4 for adults and I can't remember what age is the cutoff for them to get in free. There's a little concession stand with more seating under umbrellas, mostly unhealthy options to my dismay. Overall, a great facility and professionally managed...hooray!

Maxcy Gregg Park is a nice urban park, but I wish that the city would perhaps put a little bit of…read moreupkeep into it. It's still a nice place to run or walk through, or sit down for a little while, but I feel that the experience could be greatly improved if just a few simple adjustments were made. For example, many of the signs in the Cancer Survivors Garden were faded, and you couldn't really make out what they said. There was also what I think was supposed to be a fountain that was out of water, and quite a few patches of dead grass. I don't think any of these things would cost much to touch up, but like I said, would greatly improve the experience. On the plus side, I loved the native vegetation, little stream that ran through the park, and the benches that were covered in shade from the trees. All-in-all, I think this is a cool park, that I hope will one day reach its full potential!

It took me a minute to find this trailhead even with the signs, but there are enough people around…read morethat someone will point you in the right direction. If you are not an Intermediate skilled rider I would highly advise look before you leap. Literally!!! At this entrance, past the sign about 10 meters is a triple stairstep like hill going down which converges to a singletrack line in the woods then a sharp curve to the left. You can go with speed to the next obstacle or choose a very technical line because it opens up to a massive rock garden under a bridge followed by mini grand canyon of wash outs in the dirt before converging back to a single track. Note!! pay attention to the directions of the day (Clockwise or Counterclockwise). There are many little feeder paths running parallel to the railroad so stay on the path well worn (no pun intended). About .4 miles from the Canal Singletrack South Trailhead there is a storm water waste project currently being worked on. Do not make my mistake and follow the hay and dirt on the right side on the pond, it is not a trail!!! Stay to the left of the pond closest to Riverwatch Parkway and it will open up to the stormwater project area, but look for a well worn dirt hill and that will be your connection back to the trail. Had a wonderful cool ride in the forest, but lesson learned for the day was set your rebound and compression after your initial loop for a better ride.

I wish the park system would add-on a playground or a contained dog park area...that would be a wonderful addition to this system. You know, each trailhead should have its own attraction or personality. This trail meets with the Lake Olmstead Trailhead...most people think its all one trail.
