It is located in a small shopping center off of busy Independence Blvd. Went there with a friend. The store is very organized and the staff is friendly. The only problem is that they don't have a good selection of the larger sizes. They are willing to order for you, but it would be better if they had it in store. They have nice quality items (casual and dressy clothes) along with shoes. I would refer anyone seeking larger sized clothes here. read more

Second time in this store in past six months. First time was browsing, today looking to purchase shorts. The focus of the store is larger men's size. To my knowledge few exist and I know of no other in Virginia Beach. I was impressed enough to come back. Their location just South of Town Center in Town Center Station is great in most respects. They have a private parking lot, however when lunch, or weekend rush hit it's strained due to nearby Mission BBQ. They do have their own designated spaces. On two visits I found the lot and walk free of debris. The store is spacious and includes both casual, dressy casual and more formal jacket, ties and belts. Even shoes from flip flops to all leather formal. Today I was surprised to even see swim suits. Waist sizes run from 36-66. On my visit today it was a challenge to find the lower end waist size. Almost impossible as a matter of fact. Anything can be ordered. The price point and selection today holds back the 5 stars. They are a full retail, no sales store. They do have a reward system that you can get discounts after a certain amount of points. Ask the clerk. When browsing on a weekday around 11 AM they were not busy. A clerk immediately assisted me and was both friendly and helpful. The same clerk checked me out and the process was smooth. When it comes to quality they have you covered with name brands that I rely on such as Polo RL and Nautica. The store is sectioned off nicely and displays attractive. Changing rooms are in the rear and locked. Staff must assist. I would return to this store and recommend. However, if your cost conscious you can find better deals on the same products in my opinion. The lady is not friendly. I guess she thought I wasn't going to spend money but I have been there several times and spent over $100 every time. She asked everyone but me could she help them find anything. I felt like she only likes a certain type of people and I wasn't it. Well Kohl's sells big and tall also. So either I shop on line for DXL and go to Kohls. So sad the way salespeople treat customers. Maybe she had a bad night. Oh this was the DXL in Newport News. read more

This is an extremely convenient store for people who have difficulty finding sizes at your typical department store or shoe store. First of all, the smell of their signature cologne that hits you as you first walk in is delightful. It's not strong, it hits you just hard enough to make it your first mission to find out exactly what the heck it is, if they have it in a candle AND if it's unisex because... cough cough, I would totally wear it myself. I couldn't tell if it was a home scent or a cologne. It smells great. Everything in the store is focused mainly on larger men and it's not very often that you find a store like this in Virginia Beach. To help others understand, and to help others who may find themselves in the same predicament, my husband has very muscular calves and thighs so when he goes to try on jeans at a place like target or Walmart he can't find something that will fit his legs perfectly that won't be too loose on his waist. Let's face it.. retailers sell clothes that fit the average Joe, not someone who is built like a wrestler. I love love love the fact that we could find his size here and get it tailored in length for only an extra 10 bucks. Much like me buying a pair of jeans at Buckle (which is what I do because I am so tall), they will last for a long time because the quality of the product is great! While on the subject of sizes, my husband is also very broad shouldered and it's tough for him to find a nice golf shirt or nice casual shirt to wear to work because of how broad his shoulders are and shopping here was literal heaven for him and it made me extremely happy because I could see that he didn't feel let down or left out like he does at some other stores. They have anything from tailored suits, long ties, gorgeous dress shirts and sports coats to casual golf shirts, collard shirts to wear to work. In the back of the store they have their shoe selection and if you are a guy with large feet, I'm talking size 14, 15 or 16 you know just how annoying it is to walk into every shoe store, find something that you love, only to be told that you'll need to find something online because no matter how nice they look on the shelf and how eager the person is to find your size in the back of the store... they most likely don't carry that in a size 15! Womp womp wommmp! Well, to my surprise they carry name brands, popular shoes in the sizes that you would usually have to order online. The entire staff was warm and detailed in explaining when the best times were for deals, how to shop online or order directly to the store. They pointed out how amazing and large their clearance section was which was very helpful. They were eager to help and assist during this visit and at any upcoming visits that my husband will have in the future! Speaking of ordering online. If you see something that you love in the store and you want an extra pair, want a different color or want to re order but they don't have it in stock in the store at the tim of your visit. you can pay and have it shipped directly to the store for FREE y'all... Yes... my favorite word, FREE! Lol, Free shipping is the BEST! If you are looking for the perfect gift for your hubby, yourself or a friend I would certainly recommend keeping an eye out for any sales (typically around June or December, just an FYI) or always grab a gift card! Everyone loves gift cards! Parking is in a pretty decent sized lot that is shared with Mission BBQ and can fill up at certain times during the weekend but other than that it's usually pretty open. read more

Excellent customer service! Wide selection of casual and dress clothes for Big & Tall men, paired with in-house alterations. We went into DXL last evening to buy a new summer-weight suit for my husband to wear, for a wedding we're attending later this month. We had shopped at DXL before for casual clothes, but hadn't checked out their business/dress attire before. My husband is tall and wears a 14 wide shoe, often hard to find clothes that fit, but it's no problem here, DXL carries a wide range of sizes in clothes and shoes. DXL employees (Torrance & Paul) we're both so helpful. Torrence took my husband's measurements and helped my husband find the right suit that looked great and was comfortable too. Torrance helped us find several shirts and tie combinations that would look great with the new suit and update the look, he even made some suggestions on shoes and dress socks to pull the whole look together. Paul marked the suit for the needed alterations. We even ended up being there past closing time and they even stayed open (with a smile) to finish our sale. Wow, Talk about great customer service! Did I mention their prices are great? For what we would've paid for one suit at Men's Wearhouse, at DXL we were able to buy a great suit, two shirts, three ties, a new dress belt and several pairs of dress socks. Good god these people know how to treat a customer. I stopped by here to pick up a nice dress type shirt this afternoon. First thing I noticed was that this store is strategically placed right next to a barbecue joint and got a good laugh out of that. Upon entering I was greeted with a warm and very masculine shout of "Welcome!" by the staff, the spicy custom aroma of cologne permeating my nostrils. I never felt more like a big and tall man... There were about a dozen people in the store when I arrived. It took me a couple minutes to realize, but when I did, for the first time in many years I was the smallest guy in the entire store. Yes, this is where the big boys shop. There is absolutely everything a big & tall man could ever want. Ranging from plain t-shirts to polos and suits, cologne to designer socks and wallets; it's all here. The prices for a specialty clothing store are not bad at all. They are on par with selections from Kohl's or Macy's. I even managed to find some very quality non clearance items at a drastically low price due to sales. Where this store really shines is in the customer service. At 6'2, I was attempting to reach a shirt hung high along the wall and couldn't get to it. That's when I noticed what can only be described as the hand of Zeus reaching above me to grab it. Standing besides me was a very well dressed, towering, and illustrious sounding employee that I'm fairly confident was the store manager. After chatting a bit he recommended me a size that I didn't think would work, however, it fit absolutely perfect. This is an amazing shop for big folks and I cannot say enough about the level of customer service. I mean at checkout the guy chats to you like a friend, rings up the items, intricately folds the clothes before bagging them, and walks around the counter to deliver you the bag of purchased goods with a handshake before departing. This store is very well laid out, and has a great selection to choose from (casual to full business attire.) The store manager and his staff are extremely nice, and quick to help with selection options and finding sizes... very customer focused. I would recommend the store to anyone. Five stars. read more
