I had to pay $130 for simple eye exam that should have been completely covered by…read moremy vision insurance, because Botwin decided that they had done something "medical" rather than simple eye exam, so submitted claim to my medical insurance (which charges me deductible) instead of my vision insurance. The "medical" thing they did? Noticed I have mild cataracts, and said I don't need to do anything about them. This is the exact same thing I've been told for years by other optometrists who always submitted claim to my vision insurance, which covered the entire cost of the eye exam. Thus I had to pay $130 for them to tell me something I already knew, and that didn't need to be treated. I took this up with person at my medical insurance company, who told me that the insurance company had to go by the doctor's "code" for the claim, but that this "coding" sounded unreasonable to her, since the cataracts had already been diagnosed by another doctor, and aren't causing any problem yet. That person --- who works at the insurance company -- wondered if this was a way for an optometry practice to make more money. I don't know, but I'm not returning to Botwin again.

Last year she caught an omission in my prescription (from university) as there were not prisms noted on the prescription. She made me aware of it, I got a new Rx and then proceeded to have the glasses made correctly. That saved me a lot of money, as I did not have to have the lenses made twice. She is always so cordial, efficient and knowledgeable. I just ordered another set of lenses put into frames and the whole process was smooth as silk. Hope to work with her again.

He also made photographs of my retina that were no good because my eyes weren't dilated. I looked up whether it was necessary to dilate the eyes before a refraction, and Dr. Google said generally not unless you were far sighted. I am farsighted. I had to return my new glasses to Sam's Club and go in for another exam with my eyes dilated. I also insisted on new photos of my retina, which he did but the office tried to charge me for them. The new prescription was good, but this involved extra trips to his office and Sam's Club (total 4 visits) and was a big hassle. The only reason I didn't rate him one star was that the second prescription was good.

When I received the glasses, I was shocked to find they were much thicker than a pair I bought elsewhere with the same diopters--without paying any extra fees. 2. After my first exam, I needed a second one due to medical reasons, this time with Dr. Lisa Shin. She noted my prescription had changed but failed to update my CYL and Axis measurements. As a result, she prescribed glasses with the wrong parameters. When I received them, rectangular screens appeared trapezoid-shaped. I returned to her, but instead of checking her own mistake, she blamed it on my eyes "changing a lot." I asked her to check the glasses I was wearing to see what was wrong. Only the next day did she send me a new prescription with corrected values based on my old glasses. When I asked her to remake the glasses based on her own correction, she demanded that I pay again. I refused, since it was clearly her oversight. 3. I disputed the charge with my credit card company. Later, her office asked me to pay again for the first exam and return the incorrect glasses so they could refund the full transaction. I paid another $35, trusting they would resolve it. But the credit card company eventually told me the vendor had rejected my dispute, meaning I paid twice and ended up with nothing--not even the wrong pair of glasses. When I pressed the office, they finally sent me a partial refund check, deducting $16 as an "arbitration fee," which they claimed was charged by their bank. In reality, they passed their own cost onto me and again blamed me for disputing the charge. This is not just about money--I can afford the loss. IT'S ABOUT HOW THEY TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS . Dr. Lisa Shin refuses to acknowledge her mistakes, shifts blame onto patients, and looks for ways to charge for even the smallest things. Instead of resolving issues professionally, she makes customers pay for her errors. I would NEVER go back, and I strongly caution others before choosing this place!
