I found Dutch Treat & connected with the owner, Robert, to continue the maintenance of my manager's beloved car. Although it's a bit farther than Torrance, the shop is conveniently near the 405 Fwy. & appointments are easier to come by. Robert is a geek motorhead & Porsche lover! Although I want to get straight to the point, he sometimes shares tidbits about Porsche or the car that's in repair. His prices are reasonable in comparison to other auto shops, particularly for a Porsche specialist, & goes above & beyond to service the Porsche. For example, the DMV needed a smog check to renew the vehicle registration & the Porsche was due for a maintenance check. Robert connected with a business partner that has the required smog check system that can inspect older Porsches; after finishing his portion of the maintenance, he drove the Porsche over to complete the inspection (car passed), & added that billing to his invoice for efficiency. Now that's service! Dutch Treat is well-known in the area for its workmanship & integrity. I have a vintage 1967 VW van. Like a lot of things that are old and beautiful, she requires regular maintenance. Finding a mechanic in LA who was willing to work on her was almost impossible. After about 10 calls, I found Marlon (this was before he bought Dutch Treat). A month ago, I drove to the beach and the van died. I called Marlon. He made a house call to the beach to try to get her running and then arranged to have her towed to Dutch Treat. Turned out that it was a combination of the ignition and starter that needed to be replaced. Then while taking it for a test drive, he heard this whirring sound when the car got over 30 mph that I had always assumed was the transmission. Turns out it was a wheel bearing that needed to be replaced. He also fixed the gas gauge that had never worked. At every step, Marlon explained what was going on, what my options were, and what he recommended. I never feel rushed with Marlon and he always takes the time to answer my questions (I'm vaguely mechanical, so he's spent a lot of time explaining how the car works). He dropped the van off at my house when she was done and told me to make sure I drive her! When he gave me the final invoice, it was so reasonable I gave him a tip. Robert is no longer the owner and the new owner's customer service skills are horrible. I was charged almost $500 in September for something. When I called him in November to tell him the issue was back, he seemed annoyed I was calling. Easy choice to go somewhere else. The schedule is also a dumpster fire. They'll tell you to bring your car in and then have you wait or turn you away. Robert never had that problem. read more

After calling an Uber to pick me up the new owner came out and informed me that they would not be able to complete the oil change today. I became aware of Dutch Treat based on a recommendation of the owner of my current shop which I love. The owner of my current shop is planning to retire beginning of 2025 so I asked for a shop that he can recommend to replace his shop. He recommended Dutch Treat and to speak to Robbie (Robert). I called Dutch Treat and spoke with receptionist/service writer Erica which explained that Robbie has retired, however, to let her know what I need. I told her that I need to get my replica of Porsche 356 coupe's transmission out to be fixed because of some problem. All I was going to ask Dutch Treat is to get the transmission out and I will take care the rest with the company that rebuilt my transmission before. I explained to her that it has a flat four based on VW design engine and a VW transmission. She said it will be no problem and to bring it the next day. I told her that sounds good, but I would like to visit the shop. When I visited the shop, Marlon greeted me and he said that he understood that I was asking to get the transmission out. He went to see my car and just by looking at it, he said that he will not be able to get the transmission out because it is bolted to the chassis of the car because it is a VW transmission. I told him that it was out before when I first got the transmission rebuilt about 1 year ago, but he kept arguing that it can't be done, then he went to his office. When I went to his office to ask if he can do it, he told me that my car is not a Porsche but a kit car and he only does Porsches. He said it with some condescending tone and he is not going to touch a kit car, and if he is going to do it, I need to provide car cover when the car is left there, he is not going to be responsible in sending any parts out (I told him that I will take care bringing the transmission to be rebuild) and it will take at least 8 hours to get it done. Basically he just doesn't want to do it. His tone is quite offensive, not good in trying to get a new customer. My other car is a real Porsche and knowing what I know how he treated me, I am never going to take my Porsche there and I will recommend all my Porsche friends not to take their car there. read more

Most places don't know how to work on the diesel's correctly. No problems ever after 47,000 miles. Maintain your porsche and you should not have any problems. Great service with a smile. I am getting 35 mpg on the highway even after the recall took it down from 42 mpg. I thought I was going to get what Porsche said at 28mpg, but they were wrong. Hello. Kindly, I did not have a good experience with Robert at Dutch Treat. He was recommended by another mechanic and because he was closer to me, I decided to give this business a try. He was happy and all, but tried to convince me that my car was in "shambles" and how I did not take care of my car. After charging me close to $1,500, he said that the dealer - where I was getting my car maintenanced - was not doing their job. After Robert quoted that I needed all these things fixed on my car, I took my car BACK to Porsche to validate his claims; they debunked them. In addition, I also took my car to ANOTHER independent mechanic. He said NOTHING was wrong with my car. Unscrupulous, uncouth and tardy man. He had a chance to be HONEST with this girl and he was not. Unscrupulous man. Would NEVER go back to him. He said all these things were wrong with my car in order get more money. I have been recommended to this place by two strangers I met at cars and coffee in Southbay area. My 1986 Carrera 3.2 was leaking oil so I made an appointment right away. Robert pointed out 3 possible cause of leak in just 2 hours I left the car there, and he was able to fix it in one day, and it only took replacement of oil return tube to fix the leak perfectly. I recently bought a Porsche and did due diligence researching Porsche mechanics throughout the South Bay and Los Angeles areas. The name that kept coming up with positive reviews on Porsche sites and forums was Dutch Treat Porsche Repair in Lawndale. I recently brought it my car for a thorough inspection to see what condition the car was truly in since the Pre-Purchase Inspection provided at another auto shop did not give me much information other than it needed brakes and shocks. After the inspection I was told that I did not need brakes or shocks, thus saving me a few thousand dollars. Turned out that all I needed was a tuneup. I had been using the dealer because of warrantee but the warrantee is over. We used to take our 76, 911 to Dutch Treat. Robert did an engine swap, for a 3.2. We took the car back about 3-4 times, as it wasn't idling right , car was profusely smoking. Robert said, that just how things are and that when he drove it, it was fine. He starting avoiding calls. Long story short, we don't go there anymore, after cleaning out the Heat Exchangers and a little TLC. Our Porsche guy has our 911, running smooth as butter..
