Rare Breed Plumbing, Heating, and Air

Rare Breed Plumbing, Heating, and Air

I found about a quarter-inch of water under my kitchen sink (medium leakage). I called Rare Breed,…read moregot the earliest appointment available for non-emergency. Colson & Nathan came at 8 Monday morning, diagnosed it & explained several options. I chose the best option. They went and got the parts and finished including cleanup and my credit card payment about 11 am. That is GREAT service and we are lucky to have such an excellent plumbing company in the Salt Lake Valley !!! Both Colson and Nathan are nice and have pleasant personalities, too. They are quick but careful! I got a garbage disposer with 10-year guarantee, which is great value.

Very disappointing experience with Rare Breed Plumbing, from the service to the unresolved billing…read more We scheduled a water heater flush, and two technicians came out. The questions they asked left me concerned about their experience. The visit then shifted toward looking at other fixtures and recommending equipment replacements. Our kitchen faucet had been replaced several years earlier but kept coming loose. A technician assured us they could provide a high-end faucet that would stay secure and that we would be happy with. My husband discussed it with them and agreed based on those assurances. The next day, they installed a chrome faucet that did not match our kitchen and threw away our existing faucet. We were very unhappy with the appearance. When my husband complained, they offered a different faucet at a reduced price. He agreed, and they swapped it out, but the promised price reduction never appeared on our bill. We had also received cheaper quotes from other companies, and Rare Breed agreed to match the pricing. The bill still does not reflect the agreed amount. We have followed up about the discrepancy and received assurances that someone would contact us, yet we continue receiving bills every day without the promised correction. The technicians did not inspire confidence, the replacement process was frustrating, and the customer service has failed to resolve the billing issue. We expected them to stand behind their recommendations and honor the agreed price. Based on this experience, I would not recommend Rare Breed Plumbing.

After cleaning the vents and dryer and full dryer troubleshooting, we contacted At Your Service Pros (kudos to the Costco-dispatched tech for noticing the extremely hot circuit breaker). At Your Service was very flexible on appointment times, and one of their techs, Kyle, came out to service the home. Kyle reproduced and diagnosed the issue to the circuit breaker. Not only did he fix the circuit breaker, but he also noticed some of the wiring needed to be placed at the service panel, which he did as well. He also checked the other breakers while he was out there and made sure the dryer outlet was okay. Lo and behold, the dryer works perfectly now. Thanks Kyle and At Your Service for getting this issue fixed and for taking a larger look at the panel to make sure things look okay. I appreciate Kyle was on time and that the service was professional and efficient.

Disappointing experience. This review isn't based on the quality of work, since I never actually…read morereceived any service, so I didn't feel a one-star rating was fair. It's based solely on the booking process. I was able to book an appointment on Sunday for Monday morning, but they called early Monday and said they couldn't make it until Tuesday. That caused me to miss out on other companies that had Monday availability and wasted valuable time on something we needed done as soon as possible. They need to get their scheduling system figured out.

Any Hour Services - Josh was always great at clean up.

Oof. I do not trust Any Hour Services…read more * Quoted $1600 to replace the furnace blower motor -- another company did it for $750. * Claimed heat exchanger had a hole (quoted $4700 to replace). Two diagnoses by other companies could find no hole, only corrosion. * Claimed heat exchanger wasn't under warranty. It was. Confirmed with the manufacturer. * Claimed the AC compressor motor insulation resistance was testing bad indicating near end of life for the compressor. Independent tests confirmed the Any Hour technician performed the procedure incorrectly, and that the insulation resistance was in good range. Additional details: The tech claimed there was a hole in the heat exchanger (found via camera scope) which could allow carbon monoxide leakage and he was legally required to disclose this. Used language like "he didn't want to scare us, but..." Two diagnoses from other certified technicians from other companies also with camera scopes found no hole. Just some corrosion. The technician claimed the heat exchanger would not be covered under warranty if replacing. I confirmed with the manufacturer that it was. The technician claimed the AC compressor was "testing weak" evidenced by "bad" insulation resistance readings, which might indicate a soon-to-fail compressor and the need for a new AC unit (potentially another $5000+). As evidence the technician sent a video showing holding the power button for about 3 seconds, then releasing just as the resistance builds to 60 megohms, the final level in the "caution" zone. The problem is the meter's manual calls for holding the power button for a full 10 seconds as the resistance builds while voltage is applied. Independent testing with the same model of meter and held for the full 10 seconds shows the resistance building to 400 megohms, well within the "good" range. (see attached videos, one of the technician's test, another with an independent test with the same model meter). If having Any Hour Services quote you anything, I HIGHLY recommend 1-2 independent quotes from smaller HVAC shops.
