As this would be a fairly extensive project, I took 8 different bids and asked many questions about how each would complete the job. I also researched the final 3 to make sure they would do a good job based on their online reviews. At the end, I decided to go with Empire not because they were the cheapest, but because I was convinced that they would do the best job. This is important as I'd like my driveway to last a long time. Empire wasn't able to get started right away because they are booked solid. This is a good sign, but that means you need to plan ahead. Seamus was able to slot me in for a week since I'm considered a small project. Then covid happened... At this point, we all try to be reasonable and I told Seamus to let me know when they would be allowed to work again. Seamus is a good communicator and called the week before they could start. Given that they would be outside and in masks, this is a home improvement project that can still go ahead. Every day, Seamus, David and the team would come to my home at 8am and work till about 5pm. They wore face coverings and maintained social distance when possible. They also picked up each day. They did a great job on everything. It's been a month later and I've walked the driveway several times and still very pleased. I would highly recommend Empire.

Instead of calling me and saying 'sorry man, we've been super busy and I know we promised to come and finish last week, I will make time this weekend and finish up' which I would've completely accepted and agreed to. Instead, Steve called MY WIFE and went on some unhinged tirade about being scared for the safety of his guys because I was racist and unstable because I use drugs! This actually happened! He got that stuff from us talking about going down the shore 20 years ago and 'partying' with friends and how it was so fun. And I told them their Spanish guys wrecked my lawns and destroyed a bunch of stuff! That makes me a racist druggie I guess. So this guy, Steve Lapin tried to screw up my marriage and mess with my family!!! Because he didn't have an excuse for not returning my calls and figured he would do that to wiggle out of it, I guess? After I finally spoke with him and yelled at him what in the world he was doing, he tried black mailing me saying he recored our conversations and all kinds of crazy stuff. He continued trying to harass my wife and me, trying to get me to take down the review. His partner John seemed appalled after I told him what happened and assured me he would take care of everything. That was the last I heard from him as well and no phone calls or messages have been returned. Meanwhile the huge leak THEY CREATED that goes into my basement, has not been fixed. I will be filing a lawsuit shortly. I would still be willing to work things out with John, but he doesn't seem interested either. They took my money and ran away! That's what you will get if you hire these guys! DONT DO IT...

Devin and his team really impressed me with their professionalism, creativity, and respect for my property. I did not have to chase them as to when they would be showing up as I have with other contractors. His estimate was very detailed and was easy to understand with breakdown and description. His 3D rendering was extremely impressive and really was representative of what he was able to create. Dan was present every single day to get the men set up and to do a check-in with me to make sure I was happy with the process from start to finish. Each day the crew left my property neat, never leaving garbage behind, and were very mindful to never leave my gates open due to me having 2 dogs. As for the work... I was unsure what I wanted exactly but knew I didn't want a cookie cutter yard like most of Long Island. Dan and Devin both worked with me to pick out the perfect colors and showed me how to best utilize the space I have. With landscaping, they were able to give me more privacy and brighten up my entire yard with beautiful perennials. Based on Yelp reviews we then called Devin from Flawless Masonry & Landscape who told us a circular driveway was absolutely doable! We were so impressed with Devin's design skills (including clear scaled digitized plans) and experience that we hired him on the spot. Plus Flawless's pricing was lower than other quotes we got. Icing on the cake. Then the pandemic hit so the job was delayed (NY orders), but Flawless came through after re-opening and did a superb job for us. The new driveway is both beautiful and functional, even our crabby neighbors like it! It was a big job but Flawless's skilled and friendly crew managed to finish in a week.
