It comes with 4-5 pieces of chicken topped with onions, side of spinach, side of chickpeas, a bed of rice, and one large naan. The food was flavorful and they give a lot of rice. It was all well seasoned and light on the salt. I do wish they gave a larger portion of the spinach and chickpeas. They also have complimentary tea available. Definitely worth a try! read more

Pleasant Surprise! It was my first time visiting Donya Kebab for lunch, and I was genuinely impressed. I ordered the Chicken Thigh Kebab, which came with spinach, beans, and delicious rice, plus a complimentary Afghan tea. The portion size was generous, and the food quality was excellent for the price. The atmosphere is simple and unpretentious -- you order at the counter, and they bring your meal in a styrofoam container. But don't let that fool you -- the flavors are authentic, and the value is great. The staff were friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. I believe the owner once ran a much larger restaurant in Alexandria that hosted weddings and big events. Fabulous restaurant with some of the tastiest food around and the best bread. I go out of my way for this place. And the complimentary soup is delicious too, as is the complimentary hot tea. The sauces that you can put on your food are delicious too. I always get the vegetarian plate but I'm sure the meat is great too. Also I haven't tried their desserts but they look yummy. Five star, the best, my ONLY complaint is that I live in Indianapolis, so I can't go here weekly to get my fill of authentic Afghan cuisine. Don't be intimidated if you don't recognize the names of dishes - they have pictures and descriptions of everything. My friend goes here all the time and ordered a million different things for me to try - each dish more tasty than the next. They have a big open air kitchen and everything inside was gleaming. Stopped here on the way home from Baltimore to Coastal Virginia because all the restaurants were packed for Father's Day. Honestly, this place was packed too, but they were moving very efficiently and it smelled amazing inside and my friend and I were starving. We both got the Boneless Chicken Thigh Kabobs combo. Everything tasted amazing, especially with the chutney and white sauce that came with the combo (they give you a whole bottle of each at your table). The service was also pretty friendly. Dunya Kabob a new restaurant just starting in NoVA, and I genuinely hope they do well as time moves on, so far they seem to have their business and food model down pat. read more

Dunya Kabob is an excellent choice. Food quality and quantity is very good. Extremely good tasting, light on the quantity of meat, but the overall quantity of the platter is good. Small restaurant with basic tables so ambiance is more of a takeout feel. Service was good. Price is high for a takeout style place with a dozen tables, but comparable to same genre of middle eastern restaurants. I'll return and know that I'll pay a few dollars more, but I'll walk out with good quantity even though the amount of meat is limited in the platter. Good restaurant = 4 stars. read more

If I could have given them zero stars I would have! I strongly advise no one chooses this restaurant for any catering needs, especially for important events like weddings, as their service will ruin your event. My experience was extremely disappointing and frustrating. They have deceptive pricing practices and unprofessional service. For starters, the total cost was misleading. Their initial quote appeared reasonable, and they took an initial deposit of $1000 to lock in the price 4 months in advance of the wedding date, however they did not honor the contract and demanded we pay and extra $3,000 when they dropped off the food at the wedding venue. We tried several times before the wedding date to contact them to review everything, however the owner kept giving excuse why he can't talk now and kept on delaying the conversation until 2 days prior to the wedding because he knew that if he waits last minute we would have no choice but to pay whatever he demands as we can't find anyone else to cater so close to the date. They actually refused to unload the food at the venue and they wanted cash, and did not accept a credit card or a check. How they justified doing this was by not writing a detailed contract where they left certain areas blank, like how much they are charging per person, they wrote the total price but then played around with it later. At the time of the signing of the contract, they quoted us $32 per person, but later they said no it is $42 per person. Also, some items clearly written in the contact as part of the menu, they later said they are charging $650 extra for! What is the point of writing it in the contract if you are adding it separate later on? In addition, we ordered fruit with the initial signing, however 2 days prior to the event when we were confirming everything they said they won't bring the fruit, rather we should bring it then they will wash and sort it. After some back and forth they agreed to bring it as originally promised but they made no effort to present it in a manner suitable for a wedding. Their baklava and fernee was also subpar, not tasty at all nor was it presented in a good way. We also payed for three servers for five hours, however they left after 3 hours and did not serve properly or do much work at all. They didn't even distribute the wedding cake or serve tea. Part of the contract was for them to bring several big thermos for making tea, however they only brought one electric kettle which wasn't enough to adequately make tea for the guests. Their lack of transparency and questionable business practices made the entire experience stressful and unsatisfactory. I deeply regret choosing this restaurant for such an important milestone, and I caution others to be extremely careful when considering their services. They are dishonest and sly. If you are wiling to take the risk with them, make sure to double check the contract and write out EVERYTHING you agreed on, especially how much they are charging per person. read more

This place is great honestly. I walked in one day, totally new to the area and this is an experience that outright stuck with me. First and foremost I'm fairly certain this is family run, and I love that. You walk in and you're treated like an old friend, sure you conduct your business but then they gave me some free soup, we chatted for a while as they made my food it was great. 10/10 for experience and atmosphere! The food was also really delicious, my lamb was succulent, tender and absolutely melt in your mouth tasty. I enjoyed every single bite! The rice was fluffy and tasty, and the soup was outright delicious. We love love love this place! So happy to have them as a part of our neighborhood. We go once a week or so for takeout. The chicken breast Kebob are a favorite and also all lamb dishes. My husband particularly likes the lamb carrot rice dish. The eggplant- bournee banjuan is a hit for me and my toddler! And the fresh bread is always amazing. There are plenty of tables and seating space, this Sunday was steadily busy but the wait time wasn't bad. I ordered the chicken thigh meal. The food was Fresh and perfectly seasoned. It also came with a Huge piece of naan bread. I gave four stars because I was supposed to get steamed pumpkin instead of spinach. The Sambosas were yummy, a single order comes with six so I did half potato's & half beef. I also got an order of baklava. I went there for dinner on Friday evening with some close friends. We had one of the best food experiences since we moved to this area like 10 years ago. Great kabob ( we tried lamb beef chicken and vegetarian) crispy fresh sambosay paired with eggplant and seasoned rice Loved their fresh baked tandoori bread with plenty options for dessert as well. I would've gave it 4 or 5 stars as the lamb kebab was 'small pieces' for the price but tasted great! Unfortunately the large bread that comes with it (to fill you up) and if you've eaten the afghan bread from restaurants it's usually phenomenal; but here I was so disappointed as I couldn't eat it.
