The vibe is here is much more casual than Berwyn but maybe it felt that way because I went on. Berwyn's first day. Also, Berwyn is probably a busier area than here overall although this place being along the pike is not too bad. This sausage biscuit hits different and isn't bad.

What I personally love about these doughnuts , it's the "layered " part. The croissant like mix between a doughnut and a flaky croissant. They are also big doughnuts.. the flavors are good and very interesting. I got half a dozen to try as many as I could but still left some of the flavors out. Definitely opting for a full dozen next time! Another thing that makes this place stand out , is there savory doughnuts . I got one of those too because I just had to try them.. lol. I couldn't stop eating them lol they are so good! By far, my favorite doughnut in PA. They also offer Gluten free & vegan doughnut options. Which is a huge plus, since my daughter is gluten free. She said "these are the best doughnuts I've ever had" ! The place is really nice , modern like warm Bakery / coffee shop feel. The service was great too. I waited a bit for the gluten free and savory doughnuts, but the employees were very good about letting me know that they would be coming out shortly, which was nice. Will be driving 40 minutes to get my doughnut fix any day!! Definitely worth it.

I also prefer stuffed doughnuts (like a good Boston cream, etc) but they don't have many options for those. Instead it seems they prefer to put a dollop of the cream in the hole on top. I tried the cookies and cream and the cream cheese in the middle was odd.. it had a stretchy consistency. I like their Cinnamon Toast Crunch one, that one is probably my favorite. They're good and I love the variety but I've had better doughnuts.

There were only 2 people working, so there were a bunch of people waiting for their orders and service was slow. One person was at the cashier, the other was packing doughnuts, making breakfast sandwiches, and the coffees. We waited 5 minutes in line and then another 10-15 minutes for them to pack our 4 donuts. I wanted to get a sandwich but figured the wait was too long. On to the donuts - I liked the blueberry basil and blackberry lime donuts. The blueberry basil flavor wasn't super strong but it was well balanced. The blackberry lime was my favorite - sweet and a little tart. The crobar (croissant-donut) texture was awesome but I did not rally taste the cranberry or orange advertised. The buttercream frosting on top was sickeningly sweet so ended up scraping that off...finally the coffee donut. Not my favorite but not bad - it tasted like instant coffee and was kinda punchy coffee flavor, bitter. But I liked that the bitter offset the sweet. Overall, it's a fun place for a gourmet donut but be sure to not get here when it's too busy and to come early - they sell out of fun flavors fast!

Before it was Simon's the Otterbein's name was over the storefront. They moved to Cranbrook a long time ago and at least two generations of Simon's were keeping up shop. Legend has it that Mr Simon pretty much lived in the place!! Well, the Simon family sold the business about a year ago to a Latino family. They are great folks and quick to offer a happy greeting upon entering the shop. Their famed sugar cookies dominate the display cases behind the counter. My mission this morning was to acquire two parcels of a deeply personal culinary weakness: DONUTS! Made from scratch donuts. Far better than Krispy and gas station or c-store donuts. At 1.50 each, you can't beat it as far as flavor and quality go. My second visit in about a month. I'll try to make it more frequently, but, you know, donuts... It's easy to stumble...

The cake part of the peach cake just needs a little something to make it taste like Simon's!!

I tried the glazed donut and the Biscoff donut. The glazed donut was unbelievably soft and fresh-everything you want in a classic donut. It practically melted in my mouth. It somehow managed to be light and airy while still having that perfect chewy bite. If you think a plain glazed donut can't be memorable, this one will change your mind!!!! I will never forget this first bite. The Biscoff cookie donut was just as incredible. It was generously filled with a fluffy, marshmallow-like cream that wasn't overly sweet, so the rich Biscoff flavor really shined. Every bite tasted fresh and indulgent without being heavy. It's also a seasonal flavor so it may not be there every time you go! My friend ordered the lemon donut. It was a little too tart for my personal taste, but she absolutely loved it and finished every bite. They also have an incredible variety of flavors, so there's truly something for everyone. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and they also sell coffee and other drinks, making it an easy stop for breakfast or a sweet treat. The space was pretty big. It was nothing fancy. Just a basic shop but the donuts are good that you won't be focused on anything else. If you're anywhere near Lancaster, do yourself a favor and go. NOW.
