On Wednesday afternoon, in the midst of a major home improvement project and on my way back from the local hardware store, I decided I needed an iced coffee. Since I've been rolling with a plant-based orientation of late and not wanting any dairy in my iced coffee (I used to love my IC with a moderate amount of Half & Half, or cream), I figured I'd have to go soy. I know places like Starbucks aren't averse to accommodating vegan requests, but figured the McDonald's in town would be. That's when I passed the AJ's location on Lisbon Street. I had to roll around the block and came back by. When I pulled up to the ordering window, no one was there. Since I hadn't been to this location, I figured I was missing something or I was at the wrong window. Should I have ordered at the drive-thru sign? I backed up (no one was behind me). Nothing. Back to the first window. Were they closed? Seems like everything else in my old hometown is or is in the process. At the 2nd window, an employee popped her head out and was apologetic. "I'm so sorry," she said. "I didn't see you at first." I asked about an iced coffee with soy and she answered in the affirmative. I was in luck. When she came back, she offered to comp my drink. I told her that wasn't necessary. The 30-something manager also came to the window and explained that she was going over procedures and that they didn't see me pull up. She again apologized for the "poor service," and while I appreciated her acknowledging it, I didn't expect a free drink. However, she insisted and said she wanted to be sure I came back, when I told her it was my first visit. I told her and the other employee that "I was a fan," and thanked them. It's nice in a world where perfunctory service is the norm, to go places where the bar is a bit higher than that. This location of Aroma Joe's certainly fits the bill in that regard. I will definitely be back!

The drive-thru was easy, ordering was easy, the staff was pleasant and friendly (even in our limited interactions, they were all smiles and double/triple checked that all we wanted was an iced coffee), but the coffee itself - while on the cheaper side - was... bad. Like, somehow, Dunkin's is better. It was sour and watery and left my mouth dry. Not for me.

Until recently, I had run by this one-woman operation too often to not have stopped in on my way to…read morework. I'm really not sure when this popped up, but it's in an advantageous spot on Forest Avenue, with plenty of parking to make a pitstop very convenient. My latte was good and the owner (I presume owner & operator) kindly thanked me for stopping in after so many days of courteous waves as I ran by. I appreciate that even more coffee trailers are popping up leading to more coffee options. I am sure this one is popular with the nearby school as well as those commuting into Portland on Forest Ave. My wife and I came over during the recent storm and wanted a coffee to kickstart our Sunday. They had a bunch of the typical offerings you expect plus plenty of seasonal specials too. Both my wife and I are ice coffee drinkers even in the frigid Maine winters. With the dreary and stormy day though we both opted for a hot coffee. My wife got the pumpkin spice latte and I got the maple latte. Both were well made and you could taste the additions along with the espresso. The owner was friendly and welcoming! Give Fawn's a try if you find yourself going by during their hours. Here is what I loved. The staff was still taking their time to deliver a great experience, going above and beyond even with unruly shoppers for the holidays. I know, working in the service industry for years, it is tough when you are that busy to deliver an exceptional experience. It can be overwhelming. My venti cappuccino with sugar free vanilla and non fat milk was divine. It was also staffed appropriately for the rush (between 4:30-5:30 but the bathrooms were a mess with toilet paper and papers all over the floor and in need of a good mop!

I decided to stop in and order take out. There were a lot of call-in tickets ahead of me and a few tables already waiting for their orders. She let me know it would be about 30 minutes. No problem. I was able to look over everything while waiting before settling into a very comfy leather chair right next to the door. Great vantage point to see all of the amazing treats they sell. They have donuts, scones, muffins, turnovers and dozens of fudge flavors!! I ordered a couple of donuts to go along with a blueberry turnover. SO GOOD!!! The donuts were perfectly fluffy and sweet and the turnover, flakey fruity and perfect! Great - fresh made to order breakfast sandwiches on a biscuit. They are satisfying - so tasty and filling! They are hearty. The couple that owns and runs this business are down to earth and authentic. I loved listening to them work together, it made me laugh when they had a disagreement, she apologized when I went to pick up and pay for my order. I told her, no need, it was like I was at a family home with real people having real conversations. Both my wife and I had Coconut Cold Brew and it was pretty good, they had some syrups and creamers that could be added to your liking. My parents also raved about the blueberry lemonade. I do wish they could have had some more options for drinks. It was great to have options of drinks and baked goods after goat yoga and like I mentioned the owners/staff were friendly. Depending on our route it can be very convenient when heading home. In general it's a smaller-sized Hannaford location. So some things you like at other Hannaford they might not carry. The set up inside is not bad and never had complaints with the quality of products compare to other locations. My wife and I typically do self-checkout with me scanning and her bagging leading to an efficient and quick method. This location being smaller they do only have 4 self-checkout spots that does lead to longer waits at times. Overall though minimal complaint. Not my first choice for groceries but not a terrible choice.

I appreciate they offer this service because there are very few places around that offer helium. Yesterday I had two large number (1 & 7) balloons blown up for my daughters 17 birthday, and I was a little nervous because If there the numbers popped, I had no backup plan for getting new ones now that the party store in Portland has closed. The beautiful balloons were purchased at a cute shop in Damariscotta. The manager at the Hannaford was so nice, careful, and helpful. Great experience

This coffee trailer opened up for their first day today and is associated with Eighty 8 Donuts…read more They were at O'Donal's Nursery for a Mothers Day pop-up. They have taken a vintage camper and transformed it into the coffee trailer. First stumbled upon their social media which has some great videos showing off the process of transforming it. The inside has been drastically transformed to allow them the space to make drinks while keeping the beautiful vintage aesthetic outside. They have a ton of what you'd expect any coffee shop/trailer to have for drinks and some specials too. They had just opened when we arrived so the only option they were waiting on was the drip coffee to warm up more. My wife got their iced berries and cream matcha special and I got their special iced maple sea salt latte! Both were phenomenal and the two inside the trailer were very friendly and welcoming. A great first experience and look forward to finding them again and trying them again! Hope they have much success as the newest coffee trailer in Maine!
