Now you can conveniently order a burger in no time from a location in the airport. You place your food order from a touch screen kiosk. You can also watch your order being prepared by employees in the kitchen. This location has the typical Shake Shack vibe and flair. I ordered the single-patty ShackBurger, a made-to-order quarter pound patty of 100% Angus beef with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and ShackSauce on a toasted potato bun. The burger really hit the spot before a flight. The burger was juicy, well-seasoned, and made fresh, with the perfect balance of sauce, cheese, and bun. Simple, classic, and satisfying. For an airport location, the quality held up surprisingly well. Service was a bit slow but everything came out hot and neatly put together. Prices are a bit higher at the airport, but the consistency and flavor made it worth it. Solid choice if you're craving a reliable burger at JFK and want something familiar and filling before takeoff.

Perhaps they're evocative of my childhood and youth, when every diner and burger joint served them. So I headed to Shake Shack for some lovely delicious fries. Ordering is a pain. You use a kiosk. No live people. I had gotten a bottle of water. The screen said to "scan" any other items. There is no barcode and no scanner. After saying three or four times that I couldn't scan the water, someone came over. You have to page through the menu. Ugh. Paid, typed in my name, and waited. And waited. Finally, my name was called, and I got my fries and some napkins. I sat I a lounge chair right across from Shake Shack, and.....the fries were cold. Terrible, awful, crushing disappointment. I so rarely eat fries these days. I was anticipating hot, golden, lovely crispy fries. I got lukewarm semi-limp mostly underdone fries. A sad, sad feeling. There's no seating at Shake Shack, but you can sit at a gate or take your food with you. Employees were working very hard, so it's strange that my fries were cold. I picked them up right away when my name was called. I probably won't come back, if I am in this terminal another time.

The $12 chicken avocado sandwich and $12 turkey sandwich were bland but sustenance. In future, we'd get something else. The $15.99 for a couple of pieces of sushi and California roll were about what you expect from sushi to go at an airport. At least none of the food made us sick.

I'd like an explanation for this from Yelp, but in the meantime, here's the short version, as I can't even access the review I wrote. I had a ridiculously bad grab and go sandwich here, a D- even grading on an airport sandwich curve. It was a chicken avocado sandwich, supposedly composed of grilled chicken, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle aioli on whole grain bread. Camden Food Co. must have looked up the absolute minimum amount of avocado they could use and still name the ingredient on the packaging. The sandwich was made up of tasteless slices of chicken, a bit of lettuce and tomato, and not a single solid piece of avocado. The only discernible avocado was a thin green smear on the bread. It just looked like the bread had touched an avocado by accident. I paid $17.41 for this sandwich and resent every wasted penny. I'm a little embarrassed, just as an American, that travelers can get food this terrible at New York's main international airport.

Compared to its surrounding restaurants, this place is way easier to get a seat at and tends to have fairly quick service. The QR codes make it super easy to get your order in ASAP which helps. For those anti-QR code, you can always ask to waiter to take your order and pay with cash. Yesterday when I came in I got a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a Monster Roll. The wine was great and not too $$ considering it's airport booze. I've gone for this roll several times and yesterday's was a bit fishier than it normally is, but still great. If you're in JFK this is a GREAT spot to get work done, get a full belly, and patiently await your boarding time somewhere besides your crowded gate.

Walked across the foot bridge which easily connects T5 to my hotel, there are a few eateries in the terminal including a Food Hall, I seen other restaurants, none of them appeals to my cravings. Wasn't in the mood for salad bar, pizza or burgers either. Sitting at the bar is easiest to get in and get out quickly. Service can be either hit or miss and also not consistent in service, especially during the dinner rush hour may not be the best timing. However, this one night I have discovered that the Bar is hiding its best service. Waitress was friendly and efficient as customers waiting for seats or takeout orders. As busy as JFK is, never did I feel rushed. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed QR Codes on the counter for you to order from. Was a little sticker shocked at the prices on the menu, but what can I expect? It's NYC. All I ordered was gyoza and fried rice. Food came out in about 10 minutes or so. While I sat at the counter, I stared at the 3 TV screens avoiding the chaos of the airport. What really stood out to me was the liquor selection but was extremely tired to have had any type of alcohol with my dinner. Food was okay, but hot from the kitchen. Would I come here again? Probably not.
