Dollar General is known for its rock bottom prices, but recently they had to jack up prices because of the inflation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. With that said, I was here with my friend and we were shopping for stuff to be used for the next morning nearby in Fairlee, Vermont. Was pretty cool about Dollar General is that every day food items are priced lower than what you would find in supermarkets, or anywhere else you would find every day food items. Typically speaking, it was a dollar or so before it jumped. It was disheartening but it is what it is. My experience here at the Dollar General was in the evening on Saturday in May 2022. We were probably the only two people shopping at the time around 7pm and the person at the counter remarked that we didn't seem local to the area. My friend said that we weren't and volunteered the information that he was from Canada and I was from Hawaii. The store clerk eyes were wide open and he kind of had that jaw wide open thing that people tend to do when you tell them you're from Hawaii. I get that a lot especially on travel trips. With that said, we'll probably spend around 45 minutes shopping and looking around for stuff that we needed before we checked out. Do you have a lot of good things here that's priced reasonably well, if not a dollar. The story self is clean and organized to a tee. The vibe here reminds me of a mixture of a convenience store and a hardware store. Still good though. The overall experience here at this Dollar General store here in Fairlee, Vermont was comfortable, intimate, and nice. It was very nice to have a location so close to the accommodations I was staying at. It's great to have these locations out in what most people would deem "middle of nowhere", but small towns anywhere rely on these commercial zones for their daily needs, which I realize that's the case. It was funny that the store clerk reacted the way he did. Funny that someone from Hawaii and Canada walked in at the same time buying something in his Vermont store. Over the years, I've stopped in from time to time, and always leave with something easy to enjoy. Today, that included a small turtle (dark chocolate with caramel and pecans) for my mom; and for me a thin mint, a maple cream, and the substantial tiramisu truffle. It's good to be an adult in this store, now that I can have whatever I want. All of these treats were less than $6 total, so the prices beat the competition of other designer confectionaries in the area. How were they? The mint was minty without tasting like toothpaste or York peppermint, always my litmus test for a quality mint confection. The maple was mapley, set in such a way so as not to ooze all over when you bite only half instead of cramming the whole thing down your gully. The turtle was generous in its pecan offering, with a sufficient amount of caramel, but perhaps containing too little dark chocolate, leaving this turtle just off balance, though still enjoyable with a fine finish. And the impressive tiramisu truffle that I'm pairing at this very moment with a fine wine? Mmm...tasty, but where is that undeniable and irresistible tiramisu flavor? My tastebuds cannot find. So, a slight disappoint, but nothing to cry over. Today's selections do leave me wondering whether Sweet's confections are handmade or done by machine. If I were a betting man, I would say by machine. The tastes were just a tad too uniform, and I was looking for those subtle variations and imperfections that suggest hand crafting, but did not find. Nonetheless, not a bit was wasted, every bit was appreciated. Something Sweet has been around for quite some time, so I am both shocked and pleased to do their first review. Not many shops in the Powerhouse stand the test of time, but this one has, and that fact should be testament enough to their quality to dollar. But nonetheless we were able to find chicken stock which we had used to make the soup portion of our soup dumplings (and yes, they were delicious!) There was a very sweet butcher who helped us select our meat while we were prepping for the meals that we were cooking for the week. He really went the extra mile to answer our questions and even cut our meat for us (and gave us a little extra meat in the process, because of course he would). I guess I was so moved by this man that I felt inclined to write a review just to be able to mention him.

In turn we got a thick layer of cheap oily cheese that almost separated itself from the pizza as soon as you pick it up. Blah. Ok serves me right for giving gas station pizza another try.
