My wife had the garlic, I mean chicken gyro, and couldn't eat it due to the overpowering garlic in the yogurt sauce. The waitress was hostile, the restaurant was filthy, the food was terrible. This was our first a will be our only visit to this establishment. The chicken lemon rice soup should not taste like a bowl of lemon juice. The hummus must come in a package that instructs the cook to open, add water and pray. The cucumber, onion, tomato and pepper salad had to have prepared the weekend before because everything had sat together so long it became translucent and tasteless (with the exception of the sliced up produce sticker still on the green pepper). The spinach pie reminded us of wet cardboard. The only good thing is we had enough sense to carry some antacid in the glovebox. read more

This place just lost my business for now. The food is good, but I was really unhappy that I was cheated. Here's a tip- the chicken gyro and the chicken gyro wrap are very similar (thin vs thick pita), but the chicken gyro is open-faced and has more than double the amount of meat for about $.30 more. I ordered a chicken gyro on a thick pita to go. I clarified over the phone that I did not want the wrap that always has the thick pita. I specifically said I wanted the regular gyro that is served open, but with a thick pita. No problem, or so I thought... I arrived to pick up my order and saw that they made me the wrap. The chicken is cut differently and there is way, way less. In my opinion, the wrap is not worth the money. I went back in to talk to the waitress, and during our discussion she said, yes, she knew that I ordered the open-faced chicken gyro, not the chicken gyro wrap. She then said that she assumed I wanted the wrap because it always comes with the thicker pita. I don't appreciate being cheated on the premise that I may not know the difference. I was assured that I ordered what I wanted correctly, but that is not what I received. I don't patronize businesses that don't function with integrity. I don't encourage anyone reading this to give patronage to a place without integrity either. Due to my most recent experience, this place qualifies as lacking integrity. read more

I can't comment on other food items but I can comment on their Spaghetti. Do not order! It looked good, however. There really was no sauce and any sauce was sucked up by the melted cheese on top. I should preface by saying, when my husband and I try a new place, we typically order a sampling of the menu and share so we can see what's good. Frankly, we've never liked everything across the board. Dundee Coney Island just broke that streak. First, the Detroit coney island- they use Dearborn natural casing Frank's, the sauce is pretty good, and we are extremely picky, being devout lovers of American CI in Detroit. Second, the potato skins were to die for, a must try. We also ordered the Greek omelet with gyro meat, damn good. They crisp up the gyro meat and it's amazing, I'll probably order an actual gyro next time. If I HAD to complain about anything, I'd be a whiny mcbitchpants about the excessive large chunks of tomato, but really, it wasn't a problem. They have homemade gyro sauce that is AMAZING, another must try. The omelet came with a side of potatoes, and we subbed the home fries for the shredded skillet potatoes. This was more for my husband's sake, as that's what he prefers, I generally find them bland. Not here, great flavor. Got a cup of chicken lemon rice soup to go for my husband, and he LOVED it, and he's the type that if he's not complaining about something, he dies. (Jk) Last, we paid an extra 30 cents for cinnamon raisin toast, which was, you guessed it, delicious. Exceptional, friendly service. Will likely eat here daily while we're in town. Just want to say thank you for the staff always being so polite here at Dundee Coney Island! These guys have done a great job with their ownership after taking over the former Gabe's Place. The food is great, roast beef sandwiches with mash potatoes are the best! The Detroit Style Coneys are a delicious lunch choice too. The menu is packed with great options for breakfast thru dinner and will satisfy even the pickiest eater, like my son! Because me and my family are regulars here, we have seen first hand the heart the cooks put into people's dinner. When the restaurant is steady but not overly demanding like dinner time, the cooks/owners will often come out and socialize asking if everything is ok or if they should change something! Peoples opinions matter to them and they strive to keep customers happy! The wait staff does work hard and changes are made when someone isn't working out. As a "original" regular customer, you truly have to wonder if some of these comments were posted by employees or family members of their competition. I ate at that place before Dundee Coney Island was open and one time was enough there! The domestic dispute (yelling) between owner and girlfriend/wife (waitress) was enough to last me and 8 family members a lifetime! Someone there is a hothead... Keep doing what you do Dundee Coney Island, I think we got the gist or where many of these comments came from....Hence why you do in fact have so many regulars meeting here! read more

I've gotten food to go from here four times. The staff has always been prompt and friendly. My absolute favorite food from here are the gyros. I used to live in Chicago area where there were gyro restaurants on every other corner, and Dundee Coney Island blows them all out of the water! The meat is so good, I can eat it like candy. The sauce isn't a traditional tzatziki, but I like it better than the traditional tzatziki sauce. One day, I will dine in, but up until now I've been very impressed! read more

Well let's see, first they cooked the wrong food so I had to sit and wait while they corrected this. Then the sandwich came incomplete so they brought the missing component after I had started on my meal. The waitress came to the table four times in five minutes, standing and looking at me like she was lost, which she was. Then they denied the use of my free meal card that I had completed after ten or so previous visits, what a scam. It has gone from good to intolerable over the past two years that I have spent my hard earned money here. I am done with this dump. I was craving a hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and they had one here so I gave it a try. It wasn't too bad, though covered in the Coney Island glow in the dark, fluorescent turkey gravy that leaves you wondering what it was you just ate. My brothers ate here a few weeks ago while driving to visit relatives. They loved it so we stopped here again with them.
