Recently purchased a heat pump from Dunklee and had them install it for air conditioning to take advantage of the expiring rebates and tax incentives. After contract signing and deposit, no communications until I requested installation status, as it had to be done by year end. Promised installation before Christmas, then moved install up at last minute. After install, no communications for a month until I requested an invoice to file for rebates/tax incentives. I was then subjected to an confrontational, offensive phone call, ending with a hangup, stating I had to pay the bill "according to the contract". How can you pay a bill without a proper invoice? The sales person Paige has no business doing customer interaction. Installation crew was competent and efficient. Office administrative stall was very helpful. My previous experience with Dunklee installing two ductless room units was good, which is why I went back to them. Never again, and neither should you. read more

Customer service at Duncklee is HORRIBLE. She defends the "no show" technicians not once, but twice. This company doesn't have the decency to call the customer when they know their technicians are not keeping their appointment. They let you wait all day for nothing. When I called during the last hour they were expected to be at my home, the flippant office girl said, "They're not coming." No reason, no apology. How discourteous! I hired someone else to service my Mitsubishi and I'm glad I did. I don't have to waste my time with this disrespectful outfit. AND, if you tell the truth about a bad experience, they post your first and last name and disclose where you live on the Google reviews. I guess that's their form of retaliation. This company I originally would have vouched for, but now will never use. They know their stuff but used them and was fine with the service but caught off guard as I failed to ask what service price cost and they also didn't tell me. Well 1 hour and basic troubleshooting I'm out 300 dollars. Frustrated I put a review as I was not happy on that price but will still need to pay it. As a company they decided that it was unfair and without consent displayed all of their computer data about my name, cell, address and email for public display. A complete violation of privacy. That's how bitter and unprofessional they are. Customer reviews are only appropriate to this company if they are good but if they are bad they will try to call themselves victims and not work towards process improvements. BEWARE THEIR SERVICE BILLING POLICY. At the time you request service they quote an aggregated cost to provide 1 hour of work, with additional increases when their technician goes beyond the first hour. The homeowner thinks fair enough, cost of materials and time (labor). What they purposely do not provide is any details on what's in that first hour of cost unless you were to think to ask for an itemized information. After service to our home (technician was good). You are provided an aggregate bill to pay with no itemization, again by design. I asked the tech how I could get an itemized bill and was told to call their office. I did call the next day and a few hours later was emailed an itemized bill with three entries, 1 Labor Hours $X, 2 Materials $X, 3 Trip Charge $45. I called their office questioning what was included in the "Trip Charge" and how did it benefit me ? The response was, that's the charge for "gas and materials" on the service truck. Think about it this way. The customers before me and after were all were billed for the same gas and material inventory on the same service truck (assumes truck did not stop for gas). Take that charge and multiply it by the number of service trucks on the road that day and everyday. This is clearly deceptive billing. Add the fact they do NOT make the customer aware of this charge on the front end or when you receive their initial bill, post service completion. They "fixed" my central air by actually breaking it. It drained from my attic onto my ceiling. 4 days before I close on my house. When I called, in additional to being INCREDIBLY rude, they want to charge me $500 to fix their own mistake. Seriously, call anyone else. AC quit working. They sent an inexperienced tech out who had no idea what was wrong. Billed us for nothing. Eventually a second tech came and said system had serious issues. Asked him to quote repairs on existing system or cost to replace. Paid the second invoice and waited for quote. Never came. Called them about it again and they said they would get back to us. Never heard from them again. Called another local company who came out, gave us a great price and installed a new system. I would avoid this company if at all possible. read more

I called Duncklee to resolve heating problems in my Westerly cottage. I explained I had a split system heating pump/AC unit on my second floor with a thermostat problem. They sent a very nice service person to my house but without a split system thermostat to replace the one not working. The service person drove to a local Home Depot but could not find a suitable replacement. He said he needed to travel 1 hour to locate a suitable replacement and would bill me for his travel time. I declined and scheduled him to return the next day with the correct thermostat.That initial service call cost me $165.00 travel time. The following day he returned with a replacement thermostat and charged an additional $280.58. I think $445.00 was way to high for the service provided. I had asked for a discount but was denied. Buyers be ware of this firms billing policies. read more

My Mitsubishi ductless heater stopped working. I called Ducklee and they came to the house and told me the remote was on the wrong setting (I had been playing with it to see if I could get it to work). It started throwing heat and he left after just 10-15 minutes and I paid him $165. He looked at nothing else. It stopped working again after just a a few days and I called them again - they insisted on charging me again which I argued was unreasonable since they problem had been misdiagnosed and the heater was still not working. They refused to give a refund or come and look at it without charging me another $165! I would absolutely never recommend them; they do not stand behind their work. Very disappointing. read more

So the saga continues....after over-charging me on October 1, and then ignoring my request to stop being billed for services that were NOT rendered (I already paid $180 day of service), less than 2 weeks later they referred me to a collections agency for $113! Totally uncalled for and legally defined as financial abuse. Apparently they want to go this route, but filing after 3 weeks post service??? Businesses aren't supposed to use collections until after 3 months IF the claim is substantiated. BEWARE of this vindictive business!! They won't answer or return my calls either. read more

I called Dunklee to a fix loud fan noise in my Navian Combi water heater. They sent a tech who told me he had only 2 days training on Navians to diagnose problem. He said it was a bad internal fan after spending over 20 minutes on the phone to the Navian tech. Charged $225 for the visit. I paid on site. Dunklee called later with price for part only. The service manager said it is a simple job and should take one hour. I asked if they were sending the same tech to fix it. I voiced my concern about his inexperience to the service manager. They sent him anyway with a fan they said they had left over in their shop. After three hours into the job the basement floor was and the Navians onboard computer were both soaked with water that the technician forgot to turn off. The tech finished cleaning up his mess and billed me for more labor than I was told. I held off paying the bill on site so I could talk to the service manager. That same day I find that the fan noise is still present when useing 2 faucets at the same time. After numerous unreturned calls I contact the service manager about the continued fan noise, overcharge for labor and cleaning up the mess. The company refuses to come back and even look at the problem until second bill $782.84 is paid. I'm out $225 dollars and left with the same problem and possible damaged onboard computer system with no warranty. I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, to which Dunklee admits to overcharging us on labor and offers $110 off the second bill but still refuses to come back until the second bill is paid. I called the Navian tech line and explained what Dunklee was doing and they said it was bad business on Dunkle's part. They recomended. a more reputable company to inspect and correct the faulty part that was installed. read more

How disappointed I am in this local business. In the past 10 months I have had 3 different technicians out for the lack of continuity of my aircon in a small part of my house. First one in the fall of last year serviced the system and said at some point I may need a new motor. Having been away for the winter and no need of aircon I returned to put the system on 2 weeks ago in that area and it was not working. A different technician arrived last Thursday and said it was the thermostat ( no mention of the motor) and went away, returned with a new one, installed it and the system worked....it lasted 48 hours and cost me $+700. Another technician came 2 days ago and said it was the motor and wanted to charge me a further $+300 and I still have no aircon. Having spoken with the owner, Jonathan, this morning in the hope of some understanding I was greeted with a total lack of compromise regarding 2 bills for $+1000 for now no aircon. I was willing to order a new motor from the company and have them install it if he would accept some responsibility for not notifying the second technician of the motor issue. This is a company I have used in the past but will no longer be doing so. The one star I have given only because the technicians were pleasant. It is so disappointing to find that some form of compromise was not forthcoming from this owner who appeared to think he was totally in the right and the customer was totally in the wrong. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before hiring Dunklee to replace a zone valve on my heat pump. Spent a significant amount of money upfront to diagnose the problem, and a $200 deposit to order the needed replacement valve at which time the tech told me he did not know the part cost but could not order it without the deposit. After he came back and installed it, I learned the part was another $289 on top of the deposit amount. The valve retails online for under $200. When I called to inquire about what seemed to be an excessive mark-up, the customer service representative was rude and blamed me for not asking the price prior to installation. While I wish I had done that, I was already $200 in from the deposit so really not many options there. I think this company is taking advantage of its customers with excessive price mark-ups and I will take my business elsewhere. read more

They were paid the $305 by my credit card on April, and on June 6th, I get a bill for $328 ($305 plus interest) from them for the work (they didn't do), Left a 3rd message for John to call back but he hasn't. Left 2 messages for Barb, I guess their finance person, who also hasn't called back. Incompetent, overpriced, rude, and now-- can't keep their billing straight. read more

I agree with both of the previous complaints written about Duncklee here. They are way overpriced and also take a very high mark up on parts from the same distributor other companies use. I had them come out and do a preventative maint. on my furnace and told the repairman I was getting a delayed ignition where my igniter would click for a long time before the pilot would catch. He was here about an hour or so and pulled the igniter assy out and said he was going to try and clean it with what looked like a bicycle pump. After completing the service we restarted furnace and it was no better. He literally scratched his head and said maybe it's getting week. (Well, wouldn't you have tested it while you had it out of furnace to see??) He offered to have them work up a quote to have it replaced. About a week later, they called me with a price of 176 (and change) plus shipping and tax and another service call billing at 165/hour to come back and install. If you're adding this up, that's about $400 after I've already paid them 207 to clean furnace. I had priced the part online myself and knew right away that was a crazy high price so I called another service and the man immediately said it did not sound right. He quoted me a total price of 298.42. HERE is the kicker, he quoted the part from the same distributor. He also offered to come out and take a look at it first to make sure I really needed one included in that price for 298. When he got here and removed the assy., I could not believe what we saw. There was a rather large pc of dust that was preventing the spark to fully reach across to iginte pilot correctly. On the other side of the igniter the contact was all rusted and corroded where the other guy never cleaned it. This new repairman took a pc of sand paper and cleaned the contact, blew out the dust (without a fancy bicycle pump) tightened the spark wire, and tested it outside the furnace. He said I had a really strong spark and he showed it to me. He then reinstalled it and my furnace works fine. Amazing what happens when you hire a real professional to do the job properly who knows what they are doing and are not trying to scam you. Please never use Duncklee!! read more
