Okay, so I had a nail in my tire overnight on Saturday and Sunday morning I found out about it. I went to AutoZone to try and plug the hole and I thought it worked so I drove to Price chopper with my friend. Then the plus popped out and my tire went completely flat again. Not to mention it was raining. I walked over the the gas station on the corner of lark and Madison and talked to a very helpful clerk. She told me to have my car either towed right over or if I can drive very slowly. I drove very slowly and met a guy with blonde hair who was extremely helpful and fixed my tired in 5minutes. His charge for it was the best I ever had and I would extremely recommend his small shop to everyone who hates dealing with the hassle of big companies fucking you over. It's been a few days and my tire has not had a problem, even though I'm skidish. Lol read more

When I was new to driving, one of the Dunbrook brothers answered my phonecall in his towtruck. After solving my car problem, he generously said, "No charge." So I became a customer, if not buying gas, buying cigarettes and coffee early in the morning on the way to work. Sometimes minor repairs would be done by women working in the station. Rox took her car here all the time, for major and minor work, and loved them. Dunbrook Mobil does not have a staff, it's more like a cast. Through repeated visits, you get to know them, and the pleasant quirkiness of the business ameliorates the cost of gasoline a bit. read more

I've had an inspection done there a couple of times and it was fine. The other bonus is that they're open 24/7 so you can pick up/drop off any time. My one complaint is that they don't call you when they're done. Weird. They did that to me both times and I ended up calling the day after it was supposed to be ready to find out what was taking so long. The second time it happened I politely asked why they hadn't called to let me know it was ready, and the answer from the attendant after he asked a service guy was "I don't know. Sorry about that. Why, were they supposed to call?" Um, yeah. I kind of need to know when my car is ready. Strange. read more

This service station has been so good to me throughout the years. They are honest, upfront and very knowledgeable. Additionally they are very reasonably priced. I found this mechanic via a Yelp! search and I was a little worried only because I had never used them before. The shop is directly connected to the Mobil, which is great, because you can drop off your vehicle at any time. I brought in my car for a check engine light and was expecting to get massively ripped off. I received a call within a few hours of dropping it off with the mechanic proposing a easy (and cheap) solution first before trying to dive deep in. Turns out the easy solution worked! They could have taken me for a couple more hours of labor but were honest and very easy to work with. I will definitely be going back when my car, inevitably, needs additional work. read more

I've gone to this place several times. The main mechanic is George and he is not a kind man. Every single time I have brought my car there it's been a $500-$800 job and most of the times I would pay the money. Today I brought it there for a small piece that broke off and he told me it would be $800 to fix. When I asked why, and how it was that much he became very defensive and told me with an attitude that I should go to school for physics or mechanics if I want to know why the prices of these parts are like that. I became very angry, and decided to not get work from him. Ended up going to a mechanic that I found a few months back. They told me the diagnosis was wrong from the first place (George) I didn't need this EXTRA new piece because it wasn't damaged on the car. This mechanics also found the used part I needed and with labor the whole thing came out to a little over $300. They are obnoxious, condescending people over at Dunbrook. I felt verbally harassed and belittled when trying to ask a few honest questions. An $800 job deserves an explanation especially when asked. I have no comment about the gas, just the mechanics. Please avoid getting your car fixed there at all costs. read more

I have used this place several times and recommened to many people who were all happy with their service. The thing I like the most about the place is they can tell you what is wrong with your car, they don't just randomly swap out parts. You have to make an apointment with them but I have always been happy with their ability to fix my car. They have test equipment to figure out what is wrong. They have a "smoke machine" to find vacum leaks (if your check engine light is on and no one can tell you why) for example. Some people I sent to the place had cars that stalled and no other shop could figure out why. They fixed it at a resonable price the first time. If you want a place with "real" mechanics I recommend them. read more

Wow. Don't go here. The guy that works here should be ashamed of himself. I had a screw half stuck in my back license plate hole and I asked if they could look while doing my inspection to see what I can do to get it out. Later he called and said it would cost 20$, not even calling to confirm I agree with that price. 20$ to remove a screw... Needless to say I said I don't want it. To top it off my license plate was on fine before without the one screw and now he left it hanging off and I can't get it back on like it was before. Seriously talk about shameful. read more

I work around the corner and drop my car there in the morning and pick it up at the end of the day- so convenient. I feel their prices are fair I know they are honest. Once I was told by the owner that he caught one of the new workers just in time putting a fluid in the wrong place but to let him know right away if there was a problem. I doubt most shops would have said anything. Another time I brought it in for a new tire and a wheel. (which another shop told me was bent and needed to be replaced)They replaced the tire but told me the other dealer was wrong and I didn't need a new wheel. They saved me hundreds of dollars. If you get a nail in your tire or have a slow leak they let you just drive in and they plug it on the spot - no appointment needed. They are so helpful - if they see you are having difficulty putting air in your tires or using the pump (I have to use a company card that doesn't always register correctly) they hurry over to assist. Its true as another reviewer wrote you have to call to check if your car is ready but that is a small inconvenience since I always ask when to expect it to be done when I drop it off. One thing, they do get really busy so if you have an appointment and scheduled work you should remind them to make sure they prioritize your work or you may pick up at the end of the day and find they "couldn't get to" certain maintenance items you expected to be done. Not sure how this happens - possibly they schedule too many people or take on emergencies last minute. read more

I came here to get my car inspected. The guy failed me because of ONE back tire pad that he claimed was thin, but wasn't thin enough to effect the rotor. Not to mention it's impossible to check how thick a pad is without taking off the pad, and once you take a brake pad off you have to get a new one, which he obviously didn't do because I still have brake pads. So clearly it wasn't that bad enough to fail me! He tried to get me to pay 200+ to get my back brakes done. SUCH A RIP OFF!! Not to mention, by law its only required to check ONE front brake. Therefore, I should have been able to pass, since my front brakes were perfectly fine. Sucks for them because I'm new to the area and needed to find a mechanic. I wasted $21, but they could've made WAY more money off of me because I'm looking to get a ton of work done to prepare for an Albany winter. If you have car trouble go to them, but don't be surprised if they try to get more money out of you than what is needed to get the job done!!! Especially if you're a woman, since most car mechanics assume we know nothing about cars. There's no way he would've tried to rip any guy off like that. read more

I strongly advise anyone that needs to go to a gas station NOT to go here. For instance, they charge over $30 for an oil change, tell you that it's going to be a couple of hours since their "busy", and don't have the decency or courtesy to call you when the car is ready early. That's not to mention that they could have drained my car battery by not even completely turning the ignition off when they were done, due to their indifference and negligence towards providing good service to their customers. If anyone needs gas or their car serviced, I recommend they go elsewhere and spare themselves unnecessary aggravation by having their day largely inconvenienced. It is my hope that this will be heard and at the least taken into consideration by anyone reading it. read more

I made an appointment to have my Audi serviced and gave the make of my car. They scheduled me for the next day. I got a friend to drive with me to leave the car. I talked to the person at the front desk about fixing the Audi, which was right in front of her. Only after I had returned to work did I receive a phone call saying I would have to bring it somewhere else since they don't fix Audis. At least they gave me a recommendation to a different place. read more

I've lived in Albany for many years, and have seen many auto shops come and go. The Dunbrooks have been on the busy corner of Madison and Lark St. for the past 25 years or so, and have remained an asset to their customers and neighbors. With the Gas Station open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the repair shop open six days a week, what a convienience they are. Are they the cheapest? No, but they certainly make up for that in service and loyalty to their customers. They can be a little gruff at times, but that's part of their charm. I do not know much about cars and I am a very skeptical person and question everything. When my car has had an issue I normally take it to 3-4 places to get different opinions and get a good idea on what's wrong with it and how much it should cost to fix. Time and again this practice has led me to see that Dunbrook Mobil is one of the best shops in the area. They fix the issue at hand, the work is completed by honest mechanics, and the work gets completed at a fair price. Last time I shopped a deal I went to the chrysler dealer in Albany and then Dunbrook Mobil. The chrystler dealer named a bunch of stuff and said it'll cost me about $1,500 to fix and then tried to book an appointment right away to trap me and get my money. I then went to Dunbrook Mobil and George (the owner) told me it was a sensor issue giving me a false reading and fixed it for the cost of the part and like $50 in labor fees with the total coming out to less than $150. They also called me when they were done (they always have) so the other review mentioning they do not call right away might be outdated. As of my experience, the best auto shop in Albany is Dunbrook Mobil and they earned a 5 star rating. They are honest and they do a quality job and keep the cost down. read more

the owner george is a scammer and will not fix your issues. i do not recommend this place to any anyone. i took my car to get fixed for an issue and he explained that what was causing the problem was something else. i thought because he is a "professional mechanic" he knows what he's talking about and i agree to let him fix what he thought was causing the issue with the car. when i go to pick up my car, i'm not allowed to check to make sure the problem is fixed before i pay, so i go to pay and get my receipt. i go to start my car and the problem is still not fixed, i then go ask george why is there still an issue with my car if you told me you were going to fix it. he then goes on to say i never explained to him the issue. why would i bring my car to you for an issue and not explain what the problem is! bottom line he is a liar and i would not recommend anyone going here because he will waste your time and money. read more
