My kids craved for XLB and it was too late to drive to Cupertino so we decided to give this place a try. As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted and led to our table. It was almost 8 pm on Saturday and the restaurant was half full. We ordered Walnut Shrimp, Stir Fried String Beans, Braised Pork with Tofu Knots, and two orders of XLB. Two things lacking about their XLB. The skin is not as thin as Ding Tai Fung's and there's not much soup in the filling. Come on, it's soup dumplings and you need to at least have soup in it. Walnut Shrimp had way too much mayo and too much batter on the shrimp, otherwise the flavor was ok. Braised pork was super salty and it looked days old. The only saving grace was the string beans. The string beans were fresh and prepared with expert skills. They were slightly crispy on the outside and crunchy when you bit into them. It's a great dish. My conclusion is if you want good XLB you need to look somewhere else. The food here is just mediocre. read more

Other dishes I've tried: - chow mein: it's very basic - beef noodle soup: would not recommend, their broth is very bland, making the noodles and whole dish taste underwhelming. The location of this restaurant is in a quiet neighborhood. I wish the location is more pleasing to the sight. But the food is delicious. The order is prompt and the portion is reasonable. I once had Xi An famous food's noodles in NYC and thought this dish would be the same. But this dish was different from what I was expecting. The texture of the noodles were very tough and gelatin-like. There was a large portion which did not have much depth besides the texture of the noodles. We tried for the first time and it was ok. The honey walnut shrimp left a lot to be desired. Basically it was some over fried frozen breaded shrimp with some sweet mayonnaise on it. The portion was really small for the price. I would not order that again. The Shanghai rice cake was delicious and the portion was bigger. We got sweet and sour chicken and stir fried green beans and they were pretty standard and portions were ok. They did take COVID-precautions seriously and it was easy to order online. read more

Recently, however, I tried it again a few times and the food has consistently been much better! More authentic and tasty. One of my favorite Chinese places near me in mountain view now. This is a divey little restaurant that's hidden in a strip mall. Service is decent, but the dumplings are just something else. We got 1 order of the pork and chive, 1 of the pork and napa cabbage, 1 chicken and chive, and the xiao long bao. The chicken and the chive was good but weren't nearly as good as the others. The chicken was marinated well, and the chive also went well with it. The fresh skin was chewy and cooked just a little bit soft. The pork and napa cabbage were just as good, but the napa cabbage brought a little bit of crunch. The pork and chive dumplings were by far the best. The chives went perfectly with the pork bringing a unique flavor. This restaurant has some of the best dumplings in the Bay Area! The deals here are great, and the dumplings are phenomenal. I wanted to find the fried bun to be crispy on the bottom with a rich pork soup broth filling; instead, I found the pork filling to slightly dried on the inside with no pan fried bottom. However since it's Chinese American, it was okay overall. I would return here again to try similar items on the menu. read more

The good: The Shanghai style rice cakes (上海炒年糕) was good and fairly authentic. The beef rolls (the wrap was thicker than usual but it was very nice and crispy and the flavor was on point) and pork chives dumplings were good. The lamb dumplings were ok - some people preferred them over the pork and chives dumpling. Combination noodles were also okay - nothing special. The bad: Their sheng jian bao (生煎包) was beyond disappointing. They looked like flat xiao long bao (小籠包) and the skin was in between the 小籠包 (thin wrap) and 生煎包 (actual bun) texture (how is that possible?). I am sorry to say that the customer service was bad. We ordered lots of food with two desserts two days ago. Since we were full, we asked the server to pack the desserts with the rest of left overs to go. After we got home, we realized that there were no desserts in the bag. We called the restaurant the next morning. The manager told us that they would learn from this experience, but he never offered to give us the refund or give us the food which were never delivered. He said guest service department would contact us, but nobody ever contacted us. I sent bunch of messages to the manager, but he kept silent. We are pretty disappointed with the customer service and we posted this message in hope that it can help the restaurant to improve their customer service some day. read more

First things first, the plates and bowls that we were given still had visible specks of food, so if you come here, definitely check that everything is washed well. Green Onion Pancake - Was on par with most other Chinese places, was definitely crispy and soft on the inside and was seasoned well, so definitely a plus. Grade: A Pork & Shrimp Dumpling with Chives - Probably one of the best things on the menu that we tried, if you come here, any of the dumplings on their menu are probably your best bet in terms of the food they have. Texture of the dumpling was nice and the flavor was good as well. Grade: A Beef Stew Soup Noodle - The meat was a little overcooked, so it was a little bit chewy, but the flavor was good. The soup itself and flavor was definitely good and a little spicy. The only issue is the noodles aren't that great, they're a little rubbery, but overall still decent. Grade: B Shanghai Pan Fried Soup Dumpling - The texture on the bread itself was actually really nice, I definitely enjoyed it because it was baked well on the outside and the inside was soft too. The only issue is that there was very little meat on the inside, so it was just like eating a mass of bread with a little bit of meat flavoring. Grade: C Shanghai Soup Dumpling & Crab Meat Soup Dumpling (XLB) - Very underwhelming here as well, the dish only comes with 6 dumplings and normally, these dumplings come with soup inside of it, but there was virtually no soup inside of these ones. Grade: D Marinated Beef Pancake Roll - Very oily and honestly had very little flavor. With that said... - we did not get tea until about 30 minutes after we sat down & ordered- and even that, we had to track down the waiter to ask for the tea. Normally in chinese restaurants tea is the first thing we get, even before we order (and I've been to a ton of Chinese restaurants all over the country). - Took some more time until our first food came out (it was the pineapple chicken that came out first). We had ordered a bowl of steamed rice with that, but when the rice did not come out with the steamed rice, we asked for it again. - Also, it wasn't our waiter who gave us our food- it was an older guy who came right out of the kitchen- we noticed he continued pushing out food to other customers too and started taking customer orders too. I think our original waiter was busy taking care of the Doordash orders. - The beef chowfan came out next, and then the salt & pepper tofu came out last. Again, the guy who came out of the kitchen gave us all our food- not our original waiter. Overall, on average we give this restaurant a 3/5...good food but bad service. I didn't get dumplings from dumpling garden, but my brother got a little dumpling of his own today. When I say "dumpling", I mean baby. After I saw the Disney short film, "Bao" where the mother has a little dumpling baby, all I think about is babies when I see dumplings. It has kind of ruined dumplings for me. Especially now that my brother has a baby, dumplings are forever ruined. It would be like I'm eating my niece if I ate a dumpling. Hopefully baby Maeve doesn't read this when she gets older. Then she'll know the true reason why her uncle doesn't eat dumplings. Maeve if you're reading this now, I forgive you. Giving up dumplings was a small price I had to pay for your birth. However, if Disney ever made a short film about a mother having a little burrito baby, that's a different story. If I had to give up eating burritos, that would be tough to forgive. Came here for lunch. Was going to go to the Hobbee's in the same strip, but decided I preferred Asian food. This place is no-frills with just 10 tables. It's generally clean though the furniture looks a bit worse for wear. I made the mistake of ordering two items as they don't have lunch specials. I got the Dan Dan Noodles and Pork and Shrimp dumplings. The noodles we're awesome! The sauce was just slightly spicy, but very flavorful. It is served no frills with sauce on one side and fresh zucchini on the other. As far as the actual noodles are concerned, they're super long with a great texture. The order size is big. I had two small helpings and that was all I could eat to leave room for the dumplings. The dumplings were fantastic. Light and airy, they just melt in your mouth. I admit that I'm not a connoisseur of Chinese food, but I know what I like and expect for great food, and this place meets my expectations as far as taste and texture are concerned. Potstickers were subpar and the thimble of dipping sauce tasted like spoiled vinegar. Shrimp and chive dumplings- a tiny shrimp surrounded by a lot of chive, but flavorful and I actually liked it, though it wasn't what I expected. First and last time, horrible experience!! Not talk about the super slow 1st, the food and stupid hella customer service are the main reason made me so mad and definitely will not coming back, I ordered XLB and it took more than 30 minutes to come out and it's cold and RAW!!! It's my very first in my life time that to had raw XLB, and no one cares at all when I first complained that the dumpling is cold, and of course, they all ignored me when I spoken loud about the dumpling is not cooked, especially that stupid hella guy who works there just right at the next table taking care of the togo orders like deaf, he ignored me the whole time!!! I couldn't believe what I experienced at that stupid restaurant, servings raw XLB to customer and ignored their problems, is that the customer service we have to suffer nowadays or only happens in Chinese people/restaurant!!! Pretty disappointed with their dumplings especially for a place who's name is centered around dumplings ! I can't say anything else about the other things on the menu but as far as the dumplings go they were no good, flavorless and not worth the price I paid for each. I tried the chives and pork and the chicken dumplings and the spicy dumplings but all of it tasted like it came from a frozen box. It looked pretty busy when I came so maybe that's why? Great family atmosphere , I saw a lot of other people enjoying things from their soup selection so maybe I'll try that next time. read more
