This is for the clinic portion on Medicine Circle off Trent. This area is much easier to manage…read morethan the main hospital. It's color coded and there's plenty of parking. You do have to walk across the indoor bridge to get there unless you valet park. They charge $2 an hour for parking. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Everything is done with an arm bracelet for things such as lab or testing. I had an appointment with neuromuscular department. The physicians and therapists are excellent. They're very thorough and up to date on current medicines and trials. The EMG center is in the same clinic so it's super convenient. Being part of the Duke portal is convenient for Atrium Wake Forest and Cone Health because all testing is visible and they can also see visit notes from the doctors. It makes it possible to see providers from different networks and not having to bring in or sign for your records to be shared. The facility is massive and the color system makes it easy to find your way. There are several labs so you don't have to walk a mile to get to one. Most walk in tests can accommodate with minimal waiting. It's about a quarter mile walk from the parking garage to the clinics so wear comfy shoes or walking device. You will have a lot of walking to do and there's limited seating in the main corridors.

Friendly and professional. Dr. Cook is in demand as there are always patients waiting to see him but they tell you right up front about this and they keep the process moving right along. The waiting area is spacious and comfortable and they bring in muffins and bagels every morning to make the wait for more enjoyable. I would highly recommend Dr. Cook - he's the best in his field which is evident by his awards decorating the waiting area.

I would also say that inside the chemo section they should have a guest bathroom so that and injured companion does not have to limp outside then go to the guest check in desk to ask for the door to be opened. WARNING - Deceptive Billing Practices!…read more Be advised, although this building looks and operates like a normal clinic and has an unsuspecting-sounding name, there is a good chance your visit will be treated as a hospital visit, and you will be charged accordingly. I was scheduled for a routine, non-invasive imaging procedure at this visit. I was in and out in 45 minutes. Although I had a similar procedure done elsewhere covered by my specialist co-pay, at this clinic it was billed as hospital services and the bill was over 20x more expensive. I was not told ahead of time that the procedure could be billed differently nor that visits would be coded as a hospital visit instead of an ordinary specialist visit. When I explained my frustration and concern, I was told that it was my responsibility to know how much my visit and procedures would cost ahead of time, even though this information was never provided to me, and I never signed a consent form. When my wife went for a procedure recently we tried to learn from this lesson and get billing information ahead of time but the billing department was slow to respond and eventually told us it wasn't their job to provide this information prior to a visit. So, long story short, if you don't want to be slapped with a massive surprise medical bill, figure out the costs ahead of time on your own, but don't expect Duke to help you figure out the costs ahead of time. My Duke providers have all been excellent, but unfortunately, the subversive billing practices make them an untrustworthy provider. I'm not suggesting everything be cheap or free. I'm just asking to be treated like a human by the people who claim that they care about my health and well-being. At UNC/Rex, we've always been warned when a procedure or visit might incur a more expensive charge, and offered help proactively. You won't get any courtesy like that from Duke, before or after the fact.

I requested police assistance three separate times in an effort to stop the ongoing harm. I was forced into an avoidable medical episode because security objected to my lawful accommodation: working my service dog off‑leash so she could safely and effectively perform the medical tasks she is trained to do. My dog is fully qualified and consistently demonstrates stable, professional behavior in all environments; this is documented on my YouTube channel at youtube.com/@biblicaldogs Security also informed me of new restrictions on what items could enter the building. My everyday tools -- a pocket knife and Halt 2 -- were taken from me. I asked that these items be held so I could retrieve them after my appointment, because with my brain injury I did not have the cognitive bandwidth to return to my car and navigate back to the neurology building. That request was denied, and I permanently lost those tools. Following the incident, I experienced an autonomic dysfunction episode. My cognitive capacity was reduced to the point that I could not fully interpret my service dog's alerts, and I subsequently fell. A service dog team depends on the handler's ability to cooperate with the dog; that ability had been compromised by the earlier misconduct. She assisted me in recovering from the fall as trained, but I was two hours from home, alone, and a dog cannot drive. Despite my efforts to stabilize, my ability to safely drive myself home was impaired. I go to the hospital to improve my functioning, not to have it harmed. Because of the lawlessness and disregard for patient safety demonstrated by security, I filed ADA complaints at both the state and federal levels, notified Senator Tillis's office, the VA and my care has been rerouted to Wakefield.

The radiology nurses were wonderful and funny, too! The procedure was explained and while being in a metal tube for close to an hour is not enjoyable, the staff really eased the process. The only complaint is the parking is hard to come by, we were on the 5th floor of the parking garage. It was mobbed! And, wow, it is a confusing facility. Not only huge, but there are three separate radiology areas and of course, we went to the wrong one. A lot of walking, hard to find a parking spot and overall confusion were the drawbacks. However, regarding the cars received and the help of a few kind strangers, we got to the appropriate location. I consulted with family and chose Duke and after researching and scheduling conflicts with another specialist, ended up meeting with Dr. Angel Nieves. Best thing that could have happened! My procedure went extremely well and I feel amazing! Even one of the check in receptionists from another department, saw that he was my doctor and immediately gave me her wonderful experience with Dr. Nieves and said I was in good hands. Ladies, if you can get in with him, the healthcare experience with him is worth it! Regardless of my NCAA basketball preference, Duke was the best choice for my health!

I am a Clinical Social Worker and I believe in giving people grace and trying to share positivity rather than focusing on the negativity. But the treatment I received simply trying to get help was disgusting. It started in March 2026 when my PCP sent a referral to the Gastroenterology Department for assistance with my unusual and very complex GI case. They did not accept the referral "due to an error with the referral," but never called me or my PCP to notify either of us of the error. Meanwhile, I was able to be seen at the Cleveland Clinic who unfortunately could not determine what is causing my severe abdominal pain after a life threatening episode of Severe Ischemic Colitis in December of 2025 (which has resulted in constant abdominal pain after eating and severe/debilitating pain if I eat fruits, vegetables, or meats - requiring two ED visits which were unhelpful). So, after the Cleveland Clinic discharged me in May, I reached out to CH Internal Medicine's GI Department to follow up on the March referral, which is when I learned they discarded it and had never called me or my PCP. So I made another appointment with my PCP on 5/17/26 and another referral was sent under "emergent" status (which typically requires a response in 24 hours). I hadn't heard anything by 5/21/26, so I again called their scheduling line. The scheduler (Jenny) was very nice and gently explained that they had decided not to see me. She could not provide a reason why they would not see me. I began sobbing and begging for their help, because no one has been able to help me in almost 6 months. I was then transferred to the Office Manager who was incredibly rude and had no empathy. After explaining my situation and lack of hope, crying throughout the call, she continued to be defiant and even went as far as saying "if you're really in that much pain you should go to the ED." I explained that I had been to the ED twice without any assistance, at which point she insinuated that I was lying when I said that the Duke GI physicians refused to see me as a consult in the ED. She said they had to see me if a consult was requested and I said that she could read my ED notes which clearly stated GI was consulted but declined to see me. She still did not care. She refused to offer any assistance and by implying that my pain was not severe, I lost my temper and cussed at her. I am NOT that kind of person - I am so ashamed of my behavior and have never been belligerent or rude to any healthcare provider. I work in healthcare myself, so I understand the difficulties workers face these days and it hurts my heart to have been pushed so far that I went violated my own values. I am still without any assistance and am so hopeless. I cannot understand how a medical practice could turn down someone (with health insurance) who was begging for help, without any valid reason (they could have said my needs were too complex, but to repeatedly lie, was horrible) or any recommendations on other providers who might have been able to help. I hope that no one who is suffering has to experience this kind of treatment by a healthcare professional. And I certainly will never go to any UNC facility after this experience.
