Hubby also claims Duck Sauce has the very best pork fried rice because it has a generous amount of delicious pork in it. I also think the hot and sour soup is one of the best plus the fried won ton noodles are the good home made kind...not the kind that we get from a can. Unfortunately, and keeping it real, the Pad Thai was the worst I have had in a long time. The bright orange color was strange and it was dried out and sticky. Won't get that again! I tossed most of it out. It was very disappointing. We have been going to Duck Sauce for so many years and the decor is still the same. I recommend they consider remodeling because it is drab, dark, ugly and very worn out. Has a tired look. Hardly any people each time we pick up our take out. The awesome roll was amazing! The orange beef was so crispy and tasty! We also had hot and sour soup and sesame chicken that my kids absolutely loved. This restaurant use to be really good but they have really gone down hill. The soup tasted like it was made with bullion cubes. The two dishes were not tasty at all. Very disappointing. To add to the poor foot was the ambiance. We ate outside and the porch looks like it hasn't been stained or painted in years. The area right by the front door was dirty. Looked like no one used a broom in years. To to it off the plant by out table was dead (see picture). To top it off, I asked for another bowl of rice (which was tiny), when I got the bill it was $2.95. ...really? For us it's been over a year since we've been to Duck Sauce. As much as we are glad to see that they are open and still in business this night's dinner experience was not a great night for yelp reviews that's for sure. It all started off very good, we were recognized,as we had been regular customers. But it was clear that things werenot running as smooth as they could and should have. We start off with A bowl of the Shango wonton egg drop corn soup. The wonton skins were either not fresh or fully cooked. frankly the skins were chewy Amd in some cases we actually had to spit it out. My wife actually returned hers and asked for plain wonton soup and again same problem so something was not right in the kitchen. Next we ordered the Mushu shrimp with the pancakes to roll and the most weirdest experience, I openedthe steam basket and it was empty. How is that even possible? Doesn't a server check to make sure there's food in the basket before bringing it to the table, that's a first. For a main course we shared the wok beef dish with spinach leaves and that was ok. Yuck Sauce: What can I say, this place used to be good, that was a long time ago. It's a shame because it's in a nice location, has a good vibe and the staff are quite friendly. I ordered the Chicken with Cashews, cubed, thick weird and flavorless chicken, very bad dish. My other half ordered the Chicken Lo Mein, the noodles were decent but again, the chicken had absolutely no flavor. It makes me wonder if one can buy chicken in a can, because that's pretty much what it tasted like. Very disappointing, it was no wonder that the place was empty on a Saturday lunchon afternoon. We used to like it a few years ago, but it's been sharply declining, to the point where it looks like they don't even care anymore. Wow my daughter and I stopped here for a light dinner before an art show and it was sooo sooo good! The people that waited on us were so nice and then the food!!! The house salad with ginger dressing was exceptional we wanted to lick the plate lol. We had jasmine tea and honestly is was amazing. We were reluctant to make a reservation because of the mixed reviews. However, everything else in town was booked and we had an 8 o'clock reservation for a show at the Newtown Theatre, so we decided to give it a try. Overall, I would say that we were pleasantly surprised. Duck Sauce is very old-school. It reminds me of the type of Chinese restaurant I went to as a kid. The fried wontons on the table were fresh. They were served with both Duck Sauce and hot mustard... Just like It looked back in the 70's at my family's favorite Sunday night hunt growing up. The most disappointing part of dinner with soup. The wonton soup with served warm and the wontons themselves were a little doughy, like they hadn't been boiled enough. The soup did have fresh scallions and spinach floating on top which was a nice touch. The entrées came, and that put dinner right back on track. Beef with broccoli was crisp, fresh, saucy and rich. The meat was tender, and the broccoli was perfectly cooked. We ordered pineapple rice, and it was filled with an assortment of mixed vegetables and sweet pineapple with a slight burn, just as described on the menu. it was excellent. The star of the meal were the prawns with walnut sauce. They were gigantic, perfectly cooked, served with an exceptional sauce. They disappeared in moments, quite delicious. We also ordered three treasures. I must say, this is a difficult dish to do, lots of opportunity to overcook the proteins. But every single component of the dish was perfectly executed. This dish is the flavor bomb, pinenuts, cashews, shrimp, roast, pork, And chicken. There was one thing that "left a bad taste in my mouth", it was my husband's order of a glass of club soda, no ice. We were presented with an entire liter of club soda and we were charged eight dollars. It seemed a little excessive given the request, but we were in a hurry and had to catch our show, so we just paid the bill and left. Overall, I would say the meal, was a pleasant surprise. The interior is a little dark and tired, but it really does feed your long-term memories of what Chinese restaurants always look like when you were young. Don't let the mixed reviews deter you. Stopped by for a late lunch/early dinner. We used to come here often BC so this is our first visit in about 4 years. Started with veggie dumpling and chow fun pork noodles. My wife loved the deep fried rice crackers. She ate the whole basket. We got another one. Service was friendly and prompt. The dumplings were delicious, clearly freshly made. We liked them a lot. I must say, it had been about 4 years since my last visit and I regret not coming back more often. The food was absolutely dynamite! We ordered fried pork dumplings (best ones I've had in a very long time), Pad Thai (delish!!) and General's Chicken (all white meat chicken and fantastic composition of the sauce). If you're nervous about trying Duck Sauce, don't be. The mixed reviews were of slight concern but we loved it. Admittedly, the restaurant is a bit run down and tired and feels like it could use a good cleaning and update. The staff was kind and the food was fast, so that helped offset the feeling of the restaurant. This has been one of our favorite Chinese places to eat for about 15 - 20 years now, but things have changed for the worse over the past few years. I know the place was sold a few years ago, and the new owners just don't seem to care as much about the quality of the food or service. During our visit last week on a "non busy" weeknight, the "pot of hot tea" was barely warm, the meal was poor to average at best, and the service was terrible , with the server acting like she couldn't care less. This was enough to make us reconsider going back. The location in the Borough is excellent, but it may be worth driving to Yardley or another area to get a quality Chinese meal. read more

I guess it means something that it took four years for a return visit to Duck Sauce, despite the fact that it is the closest restaurant to my Newtown office, and I love Chinese food. The reasons are what you'd expect. It just isn't the exceptional Asian fusion it once was, and the competition in that niche has grown in the interim. It seems there has been a change in ownership, with the old kitchen creativity having lost its edge. While it remains better than average as a Chinese/American house, it really doesn't overtly compete in that space. Rather, it's claim to fame has always been that it is a different kind of Asian place - a fusion experience that suggests traditional dishes, but does them in a unique way to make their menu special. While the menu looks the same for the most part, the separation from standard offerings elsewhere is now less distinct; the distance between Duck Sauce and the average Chinois, smaller. The Wonton Soup is still very good, but the wonton skin a bit thicker. The Calamari appetizer had a coarse breading that detracted from the softness and flavor of the tender crustacean beneath, while the dipping sauce was fine. The Orange Beef was soft rather than crispy, and the dark amber semi sweet sauce, thick and more gloopy than remembered. Yet, there were the potato sticks sprinkled on top, still a nice touch. The Shrimp and Cashew platter was very good, but not dissimilar to what you can find almost everywhere. I finished my lunch satisfied, but not in love with the meal, as I once was. Came in for a recent visit with family. We've been going here for about 10 years or more, but we realized the ownership has switched within the past few years. We were given an appetizer of crunchy fried noodles when we were seated, and the quality of these has definitely changed over time. They went from being fresh, crispy, and crunchy to very oily and lacking in flavor. The newer staff were still friendly, and our orders were taken promptly. I ordered, a 'Cold Sesame Noodle' with 'Steamed Vegetable Dumplings.' My family members had ordered 'Wok Seared Beef' that had been a past favorite of ours. Once all of the dishes were brought out, the portion size and quality of the beef had definitely gone down. My noodles were still the same and very enjoyable. The dumplings were decent, but they were nothing extraordinary. Overall, the experience was good, but disappointing to see the quality has gone down. Service was good. My family has gone to Duck Sauce for years. We used to go on Christmas Eve and my two daughters and I would order vegetarian entrees and my husband would order a mixed seafood entree. As the years went by the food quality did not keep up, but we still had fond memories. On Mothers Day my adult daughters surprised me by coming in from Delaware and Philadelphia. We ordered take-out (almost $100) and ... were very disappointed. The Vegetable Pad Thai did not have the correct sauce on it and did not, in any way, resemble Pad Thai. Our tofu and seitan entrees were so gloppy and pasty that it was like lead in our stomach. My husband said that his seafood platter was "very bland". Such a disappointment. Alright, so, let me start off by saying that I've grown up in and around Flushing, NY, almost all of my life. I've had all sorts of Asian dishes, both traditional and Americanized, so maybe I'm not the demographic that Duck Sauce had in mind when they put their menu together. With that said, let me now tell you what happened when I discovered this little Chinese food joint. I came across Duck Sauce when I was looking around at the map to check out some of the local eats (I'm semi-new to the area). I instantly saw that they have "dan dan noodle" on the menu, and I was EXCITED. To say I love dan dan mein is an understatement. I've grown up on the mouth-numbing stuff, and it's cured countless hangovers for me, over the years. I haven't found any place around here that makes it (well, at least), so I was super happy to see it again. First, let me say that I was a little confused about the description of the noodles, on the menu: "Cucumber, bean sprout, scallion, garlic soy on egg noodle" with the options of chicken, pork, veggies or tofu. "Okay, so I guess they top their noodles with a little bit of fresh veggies," I thought, "and they let people choose their own protein, too." Cool, that's fine. Options are usually good, right? I called in my order and I was told that my food would be ready in 10 minutes. Awesome! I walked over there to get some exercise, and excitedly hurried back to dig in. Finally, I took out the nice, hot container of noodles and just.. laughed. Listen. LISTEN. If you don't know what something is, why on earth is it on your menu? I'm going to post a side-by-side of what dan dan mein ACTUALLY is, and what they sent me off with. If, for some reason, you can't see the picture, let me describe the situation to you. It's like.. if someone who has never tasted, seen, or even heard of a hamburger is told to make one, and they come back to you with a ham sandwich. It's like they kind of got an understanding of what it's supposed to be, but really had no idea and also the wrong ingredients, and also didn't care AT ALL whether it was right or not. Wrong noodles, wrong sauce, wrong everything. I'll spare you every little detail, but I'll just say that I was VERY hungry and still couldn't eat more than a few bites of what I'm guessing someone's 4-year-old put together in the kitchen. I left two stars for the fact that the food was ready quickly and that it was hot (and edible, to the extent that just about any noodle + sauce + protein would really not be the worst thing on earth to eat). Other than that, I'll just stick to satisfying my cravings when we're back in NYC. read more

This is one of my favorite Chinese places ever! I have been coming here with my family since I was a kid in the area, and it never disappoints. It is a higher-end place with pricier dishes, but it's totally worth it. The food is well-prepared, presented nicely, and the staff is very quick and efficient. They do have some outdoor seating available during the current COVID rules, and it's a nice area if the weather is good outside. I went to Duck Sauce about 10 years ago and did not care for it then. We were used to the Gourmet Chinese food at another restaurant in Newtown, which of course has changed hands and is no longer Gourmet. We decided to do take-out a couple of nights ago and never again! We ordered simple recipes...Chicken Rice Soup, Chicken & Broccoli and Sesame Chicken. The soup was terrible, broth had no taste and the LARGE pieces of chicken in it were an afterthought. The Chicken & Broccoli had no taste and again the sizes of the chicken were so large, as if they couldn't take the time to cut it up. No taste. The Sesame chicken looked like Orange Chicken and you could count the sesame seed on one hand. Again, VERY large pieces of chicken....too big. Nothing had any taste. I think mall Chinese food would be better. Sorry, we won't be going back or ordering take-out. Cannot recommend. read more

However, it seems like take out portion sizes have gone down the last year, which is disappointing and the menu is on the pricier end. Geez- this pains me. I've actually never written a review before. Duck Sauce- I've been coming to your restaurant and ordering from your restaurant for more than 25 years. The last few times I've taken the order on line option, it's been awful terrible experience. Every last online order I've ever made gets activated. I have to call and square things up to make sure I'm not getting charged multiple times The whole point of on line ordering is the ease of it. Each and every order has been well over 100$. I tried again today to order online and saw that every other order I placed also got ordered. I called right away and was immediately put on hold as they were clearly busy. Duck Sauce used to be the best Asian restaurant in town but in the post pandemic world has taken a downward decline. For a recent dinner take out order, I arrived 45 minutes after my order was placed as instructed only to wait another 45 minutes in a crowded waiting area. The seats they provide are pictured and need to be replaced. For another lunch takeout order, I waited again over 20 minutes after arrival even though the restaurant was empty. Like most restaurants, the pandemic hit this business hard and the rise in inflation and food costs has been no friend but poor customer service, decreased portions combined with increased price and an unkept restaurant is no remedy.
