Giving this 3 stars because I can understand why this would be awesome for people with a certain taste, but personally, it is not to my taste. I LOVE the fact that you can "create your own donut" with whatever coatings, toppings, and drizzles you want. That is super awesome, and makes this place worth at least one visit by everybody who can eat donuts. I HATE the fact that the donuts are served warm. Everything melts all over the place and the dough has no texture and just melts away. Again, I'm sure some people love that and the warmness of the donuts is half the joy of Duck's. But I really wish I could request a COLD half dozen so that toppings and textures could stay intact. Additionally, unlike at other donut shops, you can't order donuts made from a variety of doughs. They're all one standard, plain yeast dough. You can't get a chocolate dough or a cake donut. That kinda' sucks, but okay, I get that Duck's offsets that lack of variety with way more variety on toppings. It just stinks if you aren't a yeast donut person (I prefer cake donuts) or really really really love your blueberries baked into the dough (which I do). So, yeah... I prefer other places to this, but kudos to Duck's for doing something different and having an all-around cool concept and marketing plan (rubber duckies for sale at the cash register? nice ;-). read more

I'd consider myself a donut aficionado. I've had more varieties than most. There's just something about a hot fresh donut. Watching it be made before you--so fresh! I had maple/bacon and peanut butter/chocolate sprinkles. Wife had reeses and cinnamon/sugar. All were delicious. Generous amounts of toppings...lots of bacon! All varieties are on $1.20...not bad for what I consider a gourmet donut. Two donuts and coffee special for $3.50 is the way to go. Have a donut of the day as well...today was orange creamcicle. Go each morning during your vacation and try a different flavor each day. Wish had a few tables to sit inside our outside but understand the volume of customers makes this problematic. Also wish they were open into evenings...I prefer a heart breakfast and desserts at night. read more

What do they put in these donuts that makes them so good?! Duck Donuts is a small operation, so they make their donuts pretty much to order. They have these small automated donut makers, that are fun to watch. They fill up a repository full of batter, then they flip a switch and the batter drops from the repository straight into hot grease. A conveyor belt basically moves donuts along and flips them until they eventually fall into large collection pan. Once you place your order, they apply any frosting or toppings to your donuts. All this might be interesting for one order of donuts, if this were all there was to it, but the donuts taste delicious too! What do they put in those things cocaine? HA! There are many Duck Donut shopss all over OBX, so drop by one and pick up a dozen and enjoy. read more

The two ladies working were super friendly and one had my fresh donut ready before the other was finished ringing me up. Excellent service. This place is AWESOME!!! It is fresh, hot, sweet, gooey, DELICIOUSNESS!!! We tried cinnamon sugar, strawberry icing, chocolate icing, powdered, and glazed. They were all amazing! We couldn't stop going once we tasted that first warm donut. We tried every one of the toppings and the general favorites were powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, and lemon icing with coconut. We all ended up buying shirts because they're just that good! Texas donuts back at home just won't be as good now that we've had perfection. Then they have a variety of glazes, icings and coverings to make each donut unique to your liking. I really love the vanilla icing with rainbow sprinkles. I don't love donuts. I am going to just admit to that now. I find them over processed. I also think it is weird to eat something sweet as soon as I wake up. Best donuts ever!!! They were so soft, moist and very fresh. Their maple and strawberry glaze are to die for. The other toppings were pretty good too and they prepare them right in front of you. Although I must say if you get the regular glaze or the strawberry glaze, be sure to eat them within the day that you get them because the next day it loses it's awesomeness.
