I've been coming here since i was a kid every time i travel to Arizona and it has never disappointed me! Its a pretty big place that includes a wine/beer area, multiple outdoor patios, a large upstairs dining area, a deli, and a little marketplace all in one. They have a large menu with salads, breakfast, and signature or build your own sandwiches that come with complimentary pickles. I was craving something simple like a build your own turkey sandwich but my boyfriend ordered the signature duckling which was a duck sandwich with cranberry sauce, arugula, and cranberry bread. Both full size sandwiches were so amazing that we contemplated getting another for the road even though we were full. Their market is loaded with cheeses, coffees, teas, honeys, baked goods, snacks, and a pretty great sauce collection. We ended up buying some habanero hot sauce and a tropical mango mustard, both made us droool! I've been coming to D&D for many years and have always forgot to write a review. We'll my last visit was on August 21, 2021 and I needed to write this one. Duck & Decanter is a definite hidden gem and one of the more unique and exceptionally tasty sandwich places in the Phoenix area. I had the Briescutto (not sure on spelling) sandwich and it did not disappoint. I frequent sandwich spots across the state and I have to say that this sandwich is in my top 3 favorites of all time. I don't frequent D&D as often as I should but every time I visit I never leave dissatisfied. Highly recommended! read more

Had lunch at the Duck and Decanter on Camelback yesterday. The food and service was OK. The ambience was loud, crowded and rushed. One must give your order to the gal at the front and then, if it's crowded, you wait. We ordered the potato leek soup and Ruben sandwich and we're not informed until the end of our 20-minute wait that they we're out of the potato leek soup, which necessitated a further wait when we ordered the mediocre chicken noodle soup. The problem I have here is that when we picked up our order, I *specifically* told the girl at the register "No tip on my bill...please. I'm leaving it here in the tip jar." I put a two dollar tip in the jar which I felt was quite sufficient for an $18.43 pick up order. She acknowledged the tip with a thank you. On the way home I happened to pull out the bill and I see that a 10% tip was automatically added to my bill! They were not authorized to put that tip on my bill, especially since I had already left a tip in the tip jar!! No one told me or asked me about an automatic tip!!! This sort of presumptuous behavior is total crap!! Will think for a long while before going back there and I'll be checking my receipts more closely!!! read more

I've seen the sign but never made it into Duck and Decanter before. It was my daughter's suggestion after a hard morning of shopping and it was the perfect casual place to stop and replenish. Seriously such a great sandwich spot. Be prepared to order at the counter, wait, and then pay at the pick up counter. My only complaint would be the potato salad as it lacked any flavor. Otherwise the sandwiches were amazing. So many drinks and chips to choose from. We both enjoyed how many local items they carry within the shop. When I got back to the office I realized the ranch for the veggie tray was missing (just a misunderstanding, nobody's fault) I called them and they DROVE THE RANCH TO MY OFFICE!!! Outstanding! You could wonder around for quite awhile and find something you would want to buy that you could not find anywhere else. Their sandwich selection is vast. I paid nearly $12 for The Duckling Smoked breast of duck, smoked turkey, cream cheese, cranberry walnut relish & spicy spring mix on walnut raisin country bread. The meat was sparse. (2 thin slices). Just the right combination of shade and sun, it was ideal. I can't think of a better way to spend a lunch hour - eating, talking, relaxing. My lunch companions had the beef brisket chili & 1/2 Ruben sandwich. Both said the Ruben was the best they ever had. I had the Smokey with ham. One of the best sandwiches I have ever had! The cheese was perfectly melted and seemed to cover ever piece of the ham. After, you dine take a look around the store. I also like the seating, gives me an hour to clear my head sitting upstairs and relaxing before going back to work. We struggled finding this place but it was worth it. To find it just turn into the shopping center where Target is at then head towards the office building/parking garage that's near the 51. Very welcoming place. We tried to enter through the wrong door and the bartender was incredibly friendly and quickly opened it for us. You order at the counter and then can wait or head to the bar area and they will bring you your food. It has a deli feel, reminded me of DelFalco's with the store being part of the restaurant. They sell a ton of loose leaf tea, fun snacks and other items that are fun to browse while you wait for your food. We ordered two sandwiches. What stood out to me most was how fresh and fluffy the bread was! It was hands down the star ingredient for me. The duckling was very good, I typically don't like cream cheese on my sandwiches but it added a nice creaminess that compliments the bread and duck. The Vermont treat was also very good, a little bit on the sweeter side. I loved the addition of the apple but my husband felt like it was just too sweet. They do offer a few beers on tap, some select wines by the glass and a lot of bottled beer, ciders and wines that you can buy. This is our go to for afternoon drinking. Excellent parking, patio music. Great bar! The food is really tasty and they work really hard to ensure you are happy. They will customize your orders and hook you up with a tailored bag of yummy. I loved the corn chowder. My hubby loves the braunschweiger. We get extra pickles and the chip selection is so delicious. Is this an implication that their food is as good as sex? I have been here twice so far, and while I wouldn't equate their sandwiches with any kind of amorous activity, this is still and amazing place to order lunch. It's one of the few places in the Phoenix Valley that's comparable to the hof braus that I used to go to as a kid in San Francisco. This place is one where if it's lunchtime and I'm in the vicinity, eating there is a no-brainer. I will literally look for reasons to come here. If I see you with a bag saying "A Nooner" on it, it either means that you are about to have a delicious meal, or you've just had one. What a great crew! I was in on 6/3/23 and was so excited that I found a great parking spot and it didn't look busy for a Saturday. Well...it wasn't busy because it was closing in a couple minutes but the staff was amazing! They had me order and everyone was so kind! Someone even brought out a selection of tea. I felt like a jerk but they honestly treated me like a welcomed guest. What a great experience and I honestly needed food stat as my blood sugar was in the red so basically they saved me from passing out. I wanted to love this place so badly.... But the breakfast sandwich I got this morning is absolutely disgusting. It's bland, basic, no salt or pepper... And very dry, like all of it was dry, the bread, the eggs, the bacon, and it just does not taste right. Like the eggs and bacon picked up everything that was on that grill before. Or like the cheese or something was sitting out in the fridge not covered, so it picked up all the smells in the fridge... It's straight up awful. This place was great! We drove past it and ended up walking back, but we sure were glad we did. 1. It's a restaurant and a market. I love this kind of place. It gives you the chance to grab a meal and a snack or souvenir. The guy that took our order was super helpful about answering our questions about the menu, and gave us a tip on the hike we were heading to after lunch. 2. There is outdoor dining. Two separate outside areas. I noticed there were stairs inside, but I did not check out where they went. I'm not sure if it was more market, or more dining room. 3. The food was really good. I had my "go to" a ham and cheese croissant, and my hubs had the rueben and a cup of soup. You have your choice of all sorts of sides. You can get something they have pre prepared or grab a bag of chips or a cookie or whatever in the market area that strikes your fancy! 4. They sell wine and beer! It's tucked back behind Copenhagen furniture and DXL Clothing, so that's why we missed it. I could not see it from the road, and google maps failed me a bit. So look for those two signs and you will be able to park right outside. read more

What a fantastic and unique sandwich shop/deli! Duck and Decanter is a treat for all who enter. I hadn't been here in years, but the minute I entered I knew it was as good as ever. Once you enter you are immediately greeted with the smell of cheeses, fr ah breads, baked goods, and various coffee/treats that are for sale around the store. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about everything that they sell. You can choose a sandwich they have on the menu or create your own with just about any meat, cheese, bread, salad you can think of. We ordered the egg salad sandwich on an onion roll and a chicken salad sandwich with sprouts on dark rye...both were exceptional and as good as we remembered. Our order took about 7 minutes which flew by since there is so much to see and buy in the store, so we happily roamed around and explored all the goodies. One of my favorite things at Duck and Decanter is their huge selection of fancy meats and cheeses you can try and purchase. There were so many that I never even knew existed and t made me want to try them all! Next time I make a meat and cheese platter I will be purchasing it all here; the staff were so helpful and told me all of their favorites and recommendations. The atmosphere is rickety and warm; it's completely unique and makes you want to find the perfect spot to enjoy your meal and have some "you" time or meet a friend. It's a really cool environment that you can't find anywhere else. The prices are reasonable and actually probably cheaper than most other sandwich shops around. The quality of food is top notch and just about everything they make is delicious. Duck and Decanter is a fantastic place to grab a bite to eat in a one of a kind environment. I haven't lived in Phoenix for over 20 years. My parents and Sister's family still do though, the Duck is the first and most important stop when I make the annual pilgrimage. I will often make it my first and last stop when in town. How I do the Duck? Meat and cheese trays are out of this world, make sure the champagne mustard is included, have them send it to the bar. Actually have everything sent to the bar, they can find you or just hold it for you. Enjoy their expansive beer and wine selection. Sandwiches? My favorites are the Genoa, the Duckling, and the 5 and a half...although they now call it the briesciutto. Salads? Curry chicken and Greek salad are mandatory. If you are truly lucky, you might have Michael working the bar. He is part of the family at Duck, and has seemed a part of mine for the last 25 years or so. read more
