Posting this here as well!!! Feel free to reach out if you have any information that could help lead to finding the employee who assaulted me. I can offer a $200 reward! (Up to $500 depending on the outcome of the prosecution) Update 8/2/2025: thank you all for the support! I feel a bit less alone in this. The charges are still active against the male employee who assaulted me however, the business is still utilizing attorneys to protect themselves. 3/15/2025 I was slammed to the ground. I tried to follow my friends who went inside. I asked to be let inside & the bouncer slammed me-- a 98lbs woman to the ground. The force caused my oral equipment to break. Others went back in with no issues. If there was a re-entry policy, I couldn't tell. I did call 911 as I was assaulted by staff. Such an unbelievable experience for a woman with a masters degree-- who is openly honest & transparent. 3/17/2025 After approaching the business about this, I received an unhinged email from the owner stating that I was acting outside the terms of their policy. I was not. I conduct myself in a manner that reflects the values of those I represent in the community. The owner also stated I must remove social media posts when I have not posted in a couple years. Update! 4/2/2025 I was able to view about an hour and a half of footage (with police) to determine what I was doing and determine the identity of the suspect. It was confirmed that I was acting according to policy however, the suspect was not identified given the poor video angles. The bar requires a search warrant to get ANY video so if something (nefarious) happens to you there, keep this in mind. The investigation is ongoing. 4/3/2025: As the investigation is stalled, I DID choose to post about my experience-- after being told not to. The bar blocked me. The business is beyond challenging to work with when issues arise.

Popped in here after checking into our hotel which was right across the street for some much needed libations after our 3hr. drive from Chicago. It was a Wednesday so pretty mellow but we have a great time! Guinness on tap and lots of Jameson to be had. Got there too late to taste the food but we more than made up for that w/the alcohol. Went back on Friday night when they had a dj and dancing...great selection of music and very lively. Staff were AMAZING!!! Being from Hawai'i and in the industry we are always looking for places that have great friendly staff. These guys didn't disappoint! From the owner to the Manager, Servers and Bartenders everyone was so welcoming! Now I know why they are one of the best "little city's" in the US. If ever in Grand Rapids again this is a must stop for us!

I was surprised at how long it took for the 2 hosts to greet us - as we were standing directly in front of them. They were talking to one another, and it was probably work related, but to just stand there staring at them for a couple minutes while they ignored us was awkward. When they finally talked to us they weren't very friendly. Anyway, we made our way to the bar and it was full except for 3 seats. I think the bartender waiting on us was new. He seemed like he was pretty overwhelmed/in the weeds. He greeted us quickly and brought us waters when he did, which I appreciated. I ordered a Blackeberry Bourbon Sour and my Mr had Paloma Nuestra. We both enjoyed our drinks they were refreshing and well crafted. For dinner I had a really hard time deciding! I wanted to try so many things! Our bartender said his favorite thing in the menu is the chicken and rice bowl. That was something I was considering and decided to go with that. Excellent recommendation! The chicken was flavorful and so tender. The hot peppers were a nice touch. There was a lot of food too! I couldn't finish it all. Mr had the hanger steak that was served with mushroom and asparagus risotto. He said the risotto was the best he's ever had, and I agree. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and so was the steak. The space is really nice, felt intimate without being overcrowded. We are looking forward to coming back!

Many brands were local that I'd never heard of before, and it was fun to experiment and try new things. Their food menu honestly shocked me with how tasty everything was. For a board game bar, I usually expect food to take a back seat or be phoned in, but everything was delicious! I had to try the elote deviled eggs, which was a combo I had never considered but I'm so glad someone did! I also got the truffle mac and cheese and a house salad. Both were excellent! The board game selection was extensive, with old favorites and hidden gems. If I'm ever back in the area, I'll be sure to stop in again!

In fact, my kids laughed at my wife when she got a salad and wasn't overly impressed "Mom, why would you get a salad at a place with great burgers?!?" My thoughts exactly. The service is decent, the space is comfortable for a downtown spot on Monroe Center. When I visit, I focus solely on the burgers and I've never been disappointed. The 'Meat Wagon', topped with ribeye, ham and bacon just wants to cuddle your belly from the inside. The 'Otto Von Burger' topped with a fried egg and bacon is one of the best examples of its kind. The 'Alabamer' is great when you're craving pulled pork and bacon on your burger. If you just want a traditional burger, you have that option and won't be disappointed. Also, the loaded fries are solid, but personally, I would pass on the fancier offerings. Remember: Burgers over fancy apps and skip the salads and you'll be fine.

Coming from someone who loves a hoppy IPA and an amber, they combined my two worlds into one. So, it was a natural easy love. For my next, I went with their "Blinky's Black IPA" which was good but got more a weak porter feel than IPA. Like I said, it was good and I'd drink it again but with that expectation. FOOD: I went with an olive burger with be try fresh and real ingredients. The burger itself was full of flavor; add the rest of it and it was phenomenal. If I had to complain about something, I could have used a touch more olive sauce. Now the egg roll... I went with the "Guava the Hutt". I'll just say, I ordered two to go in hopes I can resurrect them in the air fryer later. The back half of the building is a pickleball area and the front half is the brewery and restaurant. Very cool look as they have a few shipping containers as sitting areas. Plenty of seating where I didn't feel jammed in. Also, a few arcade games. The staff were friendly and we appreciated "The Library" filled with games and books. I was nostalgic and read Hunter's Guide to 1996 Michigan complete with a recommendation to stop at the now obsolete Pleasure Island Water Park. That used to be my absolute favorite getaway as a kid! We ordered arancini as a starter that came out tasting crisp like a tator tot, but the shape and taste actually reminded me more of a fried tteokbokki (Korean rice noodle) known for its deliciousness through its texture highlighting the spicy sauce. This would've been amazing had they had a nice gochujang mayo combo to dip this crispy treasure in, rather than ranch and pizza sauce. Next we tried the tikka masala pizza. Fun and inventive idea... much better than the naan pizza I had in Muskegon... however the sauce didn't taste as good as my homemade tikka masala base and though the pizza was tasty with varied texture, we found it somewhat lacked seasoning especially on the protein. If I were to construct it, instead of potato I would've had chicken, red pepper, cilantro, fresh avocado and pickled onion. Yum! To drink, I enjoyed a refreshing ginger Kombucha sourced from Walker Brothers in Nashville Tennessee. The kids loved their cheese pizza and cheese smash burger with fries and drinks. Overall, great first experience and would love to come back as it seems like they are constantly reinventing themselves with tasty morsels and brews. If you come, there is free parking in the back. If you love it here there is a $150 lifetime membership (not sure what that all entails but sounds special). Thanks 7 Monks, we will be back!
