Absolutely unacceptable experience at this Duane Reade location. This is the ONLY location that consistently creates unnecessary issues when attempting to deposit cash into my debit card account. I have completed identical transactions at multiple Walgreens, Duane Reade, and CVS locations without a single problem. What makes this experience even more upsetting is that I am currently recovering from a high-risk labor and surgery that took place just three days ago, which made me physically unable to be present at the store myself. Instead of showing even a small amount of understanding or professionalism regarding the situation, staff chose to create unnecessary complications over a cash deposit into my own account. My husband was initially allowed to complete one deposit transaction into our joint account with no issue. Then, during a second transaction, another associate suddenly decided to refuse service unless he presented his own ID, despite him having: * my physical debit card, * my account barcode, * and my valid government-issued ID directly tied to the account. To make matters even more frustrating, I was actively on FaceTime during the transaction and could have verified my identity immediately if customer service and common sense were priorities. This was NOT a withdrawal. No money was being removed from the account. This was a CASH DEPOSIT into my own bank account. The barcode and account information were valid and should have been sufficient to process the transaction, exactly as every other location has done repeatedly without issue. The inconsistency in policy enforcement at this location is concerning and reflects extremely poor staff training and customer handling. If your policies differ from every other store, employees should at minimum be able to clearly and professionally explain them instead of creating confusion and inconvenience for paying customers. After leaving this location, my husband immediately went to CVS and completed the same transaction with absolutely no issue whatsoever. This store has officially lost my business. I will gladly take my money, purchases, and financial services elsewhere to businesses that value consistency, professionalism, and basic human understanding. read more

This is the most poorly run pharmacy in America. You'll have a line of 20 people and only one person behind the counter. Then of course, every person requires 5 whole minutes and most of them leave without medicine because of some horse shit. I have never had one experience that was even mediocre. I've had prescriptions sent there that they didn't even bother ordering at all. 2 months later they just say "oh, we're out of stock". I wish I could give negative stars read more

The store is fine but the pharmacy is hell. They never answer the phone. Not the pharmacy, not the store manager. On two separate days I was on hold for over two hours and I never got to speak with anyone. I've been trying to get a prescription filled for three days and when I log on to their website or app it doesn't give me any options except: "Received - New prescription. If you don't want it filled right now, select "Put on file" below, and you can fill at your convenience instead." I couldn't transfer it to another pharmacy either. I finally called the doctor and had another prescription sent to another reliable pharmacy. read more

I was told by a Walgreens employee that they were at max capacity to receive my package in particularly my package severely was below the weight and size requirements for packages according to localfedex.com; I felt discriminated and bamboozeld; how would the employee predict how many packages received in a day and how was I the unfortunate one out of several customers told that: Package has been dropped off and received after discussion with the manager; just want to make digital evidence in case my FedEx package magically "disappeared or was lost in transit"; the interaction I had in the store was poor customer service from the representative but I appreciate the managers assistance read more

The pharmacy here is always such a mess. I was on hold on the phone trying to talk to the pharmacy for 30 minutes Monday before I had to give up. Then 45 minutes Tuesday. Never spoke to anyone. Figured out how to find prescription number online (had lost it), so called back and renewed it with the automated phone system. Told it'll be ready after 11am today. I show up at 1pm & they claim there's no renewal on file. Just a constant mess. Shouldn't be this difficult to get a refill. I don't understand why just because this neighborhood pays less in rent, so many of the pharmacies and urgent cares up here have to such a disaster. read more

I placed an online order to pick up at the store. I was in the store ready to have my package, but the package was like "already picked up". I asked for help with this problem and it was a disaster! Team Leader Chystin L told me that I had to wait for her to take some photographs, when she finished taking the photographs she simply ignored me and shouted "I'm hungry, I'm going to break." I was very surprised and he left me talking alone, the cashiers tried to help me but they didn't give it much importance, they were impressed by the attitude of the team leader. Bad experience after bad experience! I really do not come in here unless I have to... they are extremely slow and the employees here hide, and avoid helping people. Anyways, I had to pick up a package that FedEx left here for me. I showed the lady at the register the slip that FedEx left and she took like ten minutes to find the tracking information on her handheld device. She, then, stated that she was the one who did the mail, and that it showed that the package was there. However, she could not find the actual package. -- That made me feel uncomfortable... What do you mean you cannot find my package? The first thing that crossed my mind was that a random person came into the store and stole it, since they leave the packages thrown there, near the exit door. When I saw that she had gone through the mail more than twice and could not find it, I asked to speak to the manager. I was told that the manager was at another store. The assistant manager, Angella, was there and she just looked at me like I had ten heads. She did not even respond to me or acknowledge me. Angella, learn how to manage a store... What's the point of scheduling appointments for flu shots if you make people wait an hour? And then give you attitude for it?

This is a glitzy new Duane Reade (really, Walgreens) outpost in Inwood. It's an obvious attempt to clean house as the CVS directly across from it continues to fall into disrepair on a number of fronts, ranging from crazy pharmacy lines that allow you to see what the 1970s oil crisis was like at the pump to just basic cleanliness. This DR has a 'converted open-air loft' aesthetic, a fresh paint job, and glistens. Unfortunately, I'd trade all of that in for sound logistics. Like its neighbor across the street, DR is really into labor squeeze coupled with lack of sound queueing theory. They're both awful, and Jeff Bezos must be salivating. Is that good for society? We'll see. read more

I had a terrible experience with Covid shots at this Duane Reade. The first time, my family waited for an hour past our scheduled appointment time. I figured this was a fluke and scheduled my daughter's second shot there. When we arrived 15 minutes in advance of her second shot appointment, the pharmacy was closed. Horrible pharmacy. They say you don't have refills when you do. They say your doctor hasn't sent the right approval/authorization when your doctor has sent it numerous time. You show up during the business hours posted on the website and that are given when you call but they are closed. Not just closed for an hour or two - entire days and no one can tell you when they'll reopen. If you call to speak to someone in the pharmacy department the wait is always at least 20 mins late if anyone answers at all. You'd think the app would be helpful, but the information is often incorrect as well. It will say your rx is being processed and no action is required on your part and then days later the rx still isn't filled. So you wait 20+ mins to speak to the pharmacy department and they tell you that you need to call your doctor/insurance despite the app clearly saying no action is required and THEY are contacting your insurance/provider to resolve the issue. It's always a nightmare dealing with them. read more

I scheduled a covid vaccine for my 6 year old at this location. The pharmacist was surly and unfriendly. My child had his sleeve down and was ready for the shot but he cried, as kids do when they get shots. The pharmacist, Constantine Dumas, refused to give my son the shot, telling me, "I can't do this. You have to go somewhere else." My son and I talked it over for a few minutes. He gathered his courage, stopped crying and was ready to try again. Mr. Dumas refused. A family right after us had the same experience. I've never been turned away for a vaccine for my children. read more

I pride myself in being an independent thinker. That is why I and ignoring the previous reviews. I work in the area often, and often come to DR. I have never had a negative experience. Staff is friendly from the cashiers to the managers. And there is something to be said for Aesthetics. This place is clean and inviting. That's the kind of place I want to visit as opposed to a dirty and filthy place, especially for medicine. Two thumbs up in my book! read more

My partner has cancer and her life DEPENDS on her medication. There have been more than a few times there has been a lag in filling the prescriptions for her, telling her they are "OUT OF HER MEDICATION." And there have been times, right now for example, which is why I am leaving this review, that she was supposed to go in to get her medication and the pharmacy is arbitrarily closed: Friday she arrived, after speaking to someone that said (after 3 days) it was finally back in and ready; and there was a piece of paper taped to the closed gate, with a hand written note that "the pharmacy is temporarily closed, sorry for the inconvenience." This is not a mere inconvenience when you need your medicine and you have tumors in your lungs and on your spine. She is in major pain, pain I cannot fathom, because this pharmacy is "temporarily closed". (They were still closed yesterday when they were supposed to be open and today, too.) read more

The on the weekends the cashiers here are horrible. I went to get baby food here and I brought a coupon. So the cashier thought that it was only the toddler milk was for the coupon. Obviously they didn't realize it said " for ALL Enfamil products". Before I could tell her she said " You don't speak English? You can take but without the coupon". Today i went again to tell her, i was right. Please call back in an hour." Finally came to the store, because they close at 8:00 M and I needed the meds today still. Prescription wasn't ready, they worked on it, I waited another 10 minutes. The last time I was in here looking for deodorant, there were 3 huge boxes in the aisle blocking the deodorant shelves. Only positive thing I can say is that it's clean. DR is really expensive too. I went shopping at Target one night and planned to pick up a Neutrogena body oil. When I got there, they were out of stock. On my way home, I popped into this DR and they had it. But wait... The oil I was purchasing at Target? 16 oz for $9.99. DR? 8.5 oz bottle for $12.41. The ultimate scam. read more

This Duane Reade consist of hardworking, dedicated, kind employees with a truly warm environment, with the unforgettable and unfortunate lack of customer service provided by the tall, African American woman by the name of Solange who works at the register. Solange is truly an unkind personality who has worked at my local Duane Reade for months. She does not speak kindly to customers, instead yells at them to come to her register; she charges full price for items, even though customers ask her to check the price; she clearly loathes her job and I'm not sure why or how she continues to work here. I am actually more surprised that more complaints have not been listed here. Every time I'm on a long line, all the customers are whispering to one another about her incredulous behavior in providing basic customer service. Solange spends her day at the register looking angry, unhappy, and obviously taking all her aggression at others. I've observed the rest of the staff roll their eyes at her behavior, sigh in despair, and gasp at the many behaviors she displays to the general public, and often other employees find themselves apologizing for her behavior because they're embarrassed to work with her. I will be calling the main office to report this behavior. The only reason I posted four stars was for Solange's lack of basic customer service skills which I personally feel ruin the image of a late chain store. Solange should not be working at the register; she should not be the face of the store. read more
