Eating here made me very VERY happy! The service was excellent and the food was DE.LI.CIOUS!!! It's a sandwich shop. It's a take-out place. It's a restaurant and a butcher. Hence, the name of the restaurant. You order the cut of meat, you then see your waiter go to the butcher section and grab it to take to the kitchen where it is cooked to perfection. Everything we ordered was very good. The fried calamari was light and crispy. The marinara sauce that came with it was the absolute perfect pairing. The bufala insalata was creamy and yet so refreshing. Summer in your mouth. My husband and I shared the 20oz cowboy steak (I believe it's like a porter steak-but can be wrong because I don't remember what the waiter told me because all my attention was on the steak). It was grilled and seasoned to perfection. My mother-in-law had the fettuccine with ragu sauce and she gave us some to taste and it was deliciously well prepared. To end our lunch, my husband ordered a pistachio cake with an espresso. A sweet ending in deed! We're were so full and happy at the end of all this. Let's not forget that this is a BYOB and to me, the prices are very fair for what you get. Our waiter was also great. He was always smiling and so polite yet keeping it all casual. He made us feel welcome. I can't wait to come back here.

Don't you just love discovering excellent eateries in the places you least expect? That just so happened to me tonight. If you drive out to St-Leonard, hidden in a strip mall you will find the BYOB Du Boucher À La Table. The menu is Italian and is meat-centric as the name might suggest. On a Saturday night the place was packed so you might want to play it safe and reserve. The vibe is that of a casual eatery with a little bit of fine dining thrown into the mix. Here you eat at communal tables and there are no menus. Everything is written on chalkboards. If you're just two (as we were) then you might want to sit at the counter which overlooks the kitchen. Here you get a front row seat to see the chefs whipping up the delicious food you are about to eat. As someone who loves cooking myself I enjoyed watching how a restaurant kitchen works. Like I said before the menu focuses on Italian food. I skipped the antipasto because I wasn't too hungry bt they have the usual ones for an Italian restaurant. For the main course I got casareccia with boar ragu and it was to die for! The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce itself was loaded with boar that had been braised to perfection. I also tried a mouthful of my father's lamb and it was so tender it didn't need a knife to cut it. In addition to bringing your own wine be sure to bring your appetite because the portions here are huge and I can promise that you won't go home hungry. As for the prices they were fair. Most of the main dishes were in the $20 - $30 range and when you consider the portions and quality of the food it seemed reasonable. The overall experience here was a positive one and I will definitely be back in the future to try more of their offerings.

Besides the owner being willing to tell you about all his product and make suggestions, the shop is also a shrine to nostalgia and time long-gone. I'm still not clear on the…read moretranslation of this shop but the first thing to understand is that this is not a butcher shop with all kinds of different meats. It is the workshop of a meat craftsman. It's like going to the creamery where one of the worlds finest cheeses are made, as opposed to a cheese shop. And, if you're lucky you can meet The Godfather of Meat himself, Marc du Bourg. Marc was exceptionally generous with his time and knowledge. I returned to Orlando confident that I now probably know more about dry aging beef than anyone else in Florida, because I learned from the world's leading expert. Nobody else is doing what Marc does, his 1-year and older beef is a delicacy that can only be found here. And if you like meat and have a taste for aged foods then you must experience du Bourg meat. I ended up going twice. The first time I got a double-rib steak of the 120 day beef. Marc gave me careful guidance on how to prepare it. His technique is simple but works exceptionally well, and it really highlights what makes this meat special. So, if you are buying his good stuff then get the instructions and follow them. Keep the prep simple, you want to let the meat be center stage. It is intensely beefy, rich, and soft. Wonderful. The second time I went I got a small sample of the 180 day beef. It was even more intense on the flavor, with a bit of a blue cheese funk in the background (which I loved). It is an exceptionally elite ingredient. I think on my next visit I might venture to the exotic 1 year (or longer). It's expensive, but as a foodie it will be worth it to me to experience something so exclusive, sold to me by the artist who designed the technique and trimmed my steak to order. If you like dry aged beef and you have the means, you must go to meet The Godfather. You won't regret it.

The owner, Patrick Loyau, owner of this butcher shop in the Jean-Talon market, knows how to make a business succeed. He bought the premises on rue Mozart in 1994, at the age of 24. When he opened the store, he was not yet a butcher.... his employees taught him everything....so hiring the right people is always the best strategy for a good enterprise. For nearly 20 years, this small butcher's shop has many loyal customers that do not hesitate to weave their way between its crowded aisles in exchange for its quality products (such as its famous marinated flank steak) and the friendly service of its personnel. Nowadays these places (although some exist) have become more specialized and need to charge more money. This is due to the advent of mass grocery and Costco have taken over the lions share of the meat business. Offerings here are fresh cut (aged) meat. Loads of local bottled and canned products. A small selection of fresh dairy products and what I come for the cured saucisson. Last year I spent the month of June in France and developed a semi-addiction to cured saucisson. I'm not proud of it (hence my mom and doctor warn in moderation) but this is the best offering I have found in Quebec. Pork shop (available at your local IGA) does a fine version however it's just the bit more delicious here at Lawrence. Also purchased are bottles of St Leon maple syrup. $25 a big bottle is a bit steep but it makes a wonderful gift or delicious in the morning on your pancakes or toast. Being in the heart of the Plateau then can cater to those who are willing to pay a bit more. I believe the meat shop is connected to Lawrence restaurant a few doors down which does a dandy brunch.
