I've lived 5 minutes away from this place for about 6-7 years and I've only tried it now. HOW? It was great, the prices are fair, the staff is helpful, the vibe is cool, and the food is delicious. I do wish they were bigger portions but it is a snack place. I got the Black bean taco. It was delectable.

Tachido is a Mexican snack bar that serves up the yummiest sandwich on the block! Dishes are fresh, portions are hearty, and the space is bright and welcoming. Even the staff is endearingly friendly and proud to share their establishment with clients. They offer "torta" (hot sandwich) with generous fillings of avocado, fried onion, tomato, and cheese with your choice of options like pulled pork or chipotle chicken, served in buckwheat bread or in their homemade, gluten-free, panini-like bread. The corn-tortillas for the quesidillas are made in-house, as are the delectable "almond cookies" which I suggest you chomp after your meal! For a fresh meal under $10, Tachido is my new lunch spot on Parc Ave. I've only been for lunch so I wouldn't know about drinks at Tachido other than what's on their menu: specialty drinks including "agua fresca des dia" in different flavors every day - when I dropped by it was 'watermelon'. YUM. They also offer Mexican beer and sangria, and hibiscus Margaritas.

Stumbled upon this place after searching for gluten-free in Montréal (often a fruitless search) and was luckily nearby with a friend to give it a shot. They have just opened less than two months ago, and it's the owner's first resto venture. Him and his father, who is the baker, were very friendly and talked to me about the resto. The owner's sister and some of her friends are gluten-free and told him that he has to make an option for them. What did he do? Put his dad to work and create a delicious and chewy gluten free version of their own home made panini-style bread, that includes cheese inside. The main ingredient of the gf-flour is yuca. Onto the sandwiches: I ordered the Chipotle Chicken on gluten free bread & the side beans & watermelon lemonade. It also came with a hot sauce type dip. The owner also brought us pickled peppers to try. The sandwich was delicious and full of stuff inside, which I am still thinking about days later. Like, I cannot stop thinking about it. I wish I lived closer! The beans were too watery and over salted. The watermelon lemonade tasted too fake. The two latter sides are what gives this place a 4 and not a 5. My friend had the pulled pork on regular bread and he was swooning. We were both pleasantly stuffed after the meal. My friend mentioned that often he goes to these types of places and is never full. I will definitely be back many times over, especially at the affordable student pricing. The decor is inviting and very clean. Go!

I've been here twice in less than 24 hours and I don't even feel guilty. This place makes the best tinga de pollo torta I've ever tasted. Admittedly, it's the only one I've ever tasted, but I'd like to see anybody try to make one better. Their guacamole is exceptional and the tostadas are magnificent. The cherry on top is the service. Great people, very quick and all around good vibes.

It used to be amazing, and their ham and pineapple sandwiches still are. But they recently doubled the size of their room, as well as their menu length. I don't get why they felt the need to add so many new dishes that all look like slight variation on existing stuff. Worst of all, it dramatically lowered the average quality of their offering. The taco chido is basically cheap over cooked rice with dry bits of beef, served on two tortillas. Though it sounds like an end of month broke student meal, I'm sure a talentless millennial could much better with some fridge leftovers and an access to YouTube. Pains me to say this because this used to be my go to Mexican joint.

The Sincronizada was very drab and disappointing. For the same price, La Tamalera Serve a much more robust version of this fabulous dish.

Fresh bread and eccentric decor. The tortas are amazing and filling. Especially paired with a refreshing and tasty michelada. Authentic tacos and all reasonably priced.

I came to Montreal visiting from NJ and just passed by this place and it seemed interesting from the outside. This small Mexican place had the best torta I have ever had in my life. The tinga de pollo torta is delicious. I wish it were a little cheaper but the quality and taste is magnificent. The restaurant setting is filled with interesting toys and a vintage feel so it is a nice place for a hangout.

Inedible. I felt sick for hours after. Everything tasted off, and badly prepared. Horrible excuse for Mexican food.

We ordered the "Le Joe Bagel", which was the one on Netflix, a spicy everything bagel (new), a maple apple bagel, and a rosemary & sea salt bagel with jalapeno cream cheese (new). I would say that the "Le Joe Bagel" was a little sweet for us since it had fig in it. The spicy everything bagel was good and the jalapeno cream cheese had a good kick to it too. But my favorite was the maple apple bagel since it was just simple and nice. The bagel itself looks smaller than a New York bagel but it's more dense and gives a good pretzel feel to it. I tend to like that more than the full bread feel from New York. We didn't try other bagel spots but I don't feel like I would need to or want to. It was great. I'd come back

They also have indoor seating as well which is very convienent and ideal. These bagels themselves are typical of Montreal, a hint of sweet and a well wrapped spiced bagel. Combine these bagels with a Tre Selle cream cheese, which is not as dense or full of preservatives, and it's pure bliss for any bagel lover. I did find these bagels to be sturdier than the competition, the exterior chew definitely a little more of a workout for the jaw, but I'd still give St Viateur another retry the next time I visit Montreal.

I did find both Five Guys and Brit & Chips (they are on opposite sides of the street) on McGill Avenue south of St Jacques. I had eaten at a Brit & Chips location before when they had a restaurant near Guy-Concordia metro (maybe about ~10 years ago) when I worked in a building which was close to the Green line so convenient to go there for lunch since it was less than 10 minutes away from my place of work at the time whereas for me to get to this location from where I worked would have taken about twice as long since it would have meant transferring from the green line to the orange line. On the day that I went to that location back then, I did remember that it wasn't that busy and I was the only customer. Unfortunately, that Brit & Chips restaurant did not survive. I did remember that the fish was very good so decided to go to this Brit & Chips since they had a lunch special. The staff were very friendly and greeted me in French and while I'm bilingual, I answered in English and the server replied to me in English. I was asked whether I was eating in or wanted something take out. I told the person that I was eating in and he told me that I could sit "anywhere" so I picked a seat in the back. I went to the washroom to wash my hands and then returned to my seat. I was asked whether I was ready to order and I mentioned that I was so the person motioned to the server and she asked me what I wanted. I asked her what I could get for their $19 lunch special and she told me that it was any of the 3 fish and chips dishes on the menu. I quickly looked at it and made my choice based on the server's recommendation (cod) and also decided to have a beer. The beer was brought immediately to my table and the food was put on my table a few minutes later (maybe 4 minutes later). The battered fish wasn't as good or prepared as well as I remember from the other location nor was it the best battered fish that I've had. The fries (chips) were good. The dipping sauce was also very good. What I didn't like about the way my battered fish was prepared was that when I cut into it, the hollow or "air pockets" of the fish/batter was dripping with oil. I know that the battered fish is deep fried so some oil is to be expected but I felt that it was "a lot" of oil that came out when I cut into my fish. The restaurant wasn't too busy at the time that I went (it wasn't empty nor was I the only customer there throughout my meal since as people left, others came in). I also didn't feel rushed. I showed up about 15 minutes before 2pm (their lunch special ends at 2pm... which I interpret to mean that the customer needs to enter and order before 2pm). In terms of whether I would return, I'm unsure since I'm rarely if ever at Square Victoria and for the orange line in downtown Montreal, I'm generally either at Place D'Armes or Bonaventure. If I exit Square Victoria metro, I would have no aversion to returning if I felt like fish & chips but would also just be as likely to try a different restaurant in the area. When downtown, I'm generally around the green line area. Yes, I know that in the underground city/tunnels you can get from McGill metro to Square Victoria metro without taking the metro but it is a very long walk indoors (from McGill metro station to Eaton Centre to the tunnel to Place Ville Maria to Central Station to the tunnel at Bonaventure station and a long walk indoors, one winds up in Square Victoria metro and exiting Square Victoria metro and going outside, walking a few blocks, less than 5 minutes or so away is Brit & Chips. Depending on the weather, if one didn't want to take the metro but was at McGill metro, it might be faster to just walk there directly above ground (outdoors) but then again with the traffic lights, it might not save that much time but would save a lot of walking (and perhaps going up a few flights of stairs since some escalators generally don't work). I would rate this place as 3.5 stars which I've rounded up to a 4 since I don't feel right lowering it to a 3.

The clientele is a cross section of the general population of Montreal. Young and old, families and couples. They have waiter service. The fish part of the "fish and chips"was not greasy or soggy. Which can often be the case if the oil is not hot enough. They have their own signature tartar sauce that comes with the meal. There are plenty of chips that come with the fish that are well seasoned and cooked to order. I didn't see any sitting in a stainless steel bin waiting to be delivered to the customer. The kitchen is partially open so you can see in and see what they're doing if that's your preference or if you're curious. As we were leaving, the cook was at one of the counters, eating his own food. I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

I took my niece from New York City here because La Banquise is supposed to be the "must try" poutine spot in Montreal. We had a great night overall: soccer game, drinks at Mellon Brasserie (none of us were drunk; my wife was 100% sober). Everything was fun and chill. But La Banquise completely ruined the end of that trip, and I'm not okay with letting this go. We paid for the food and service. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: at the end of the day, we were customers, and we deserved to be treated with respect. We waited for our Uber outside. It was cold, and I'm on crutches, so my injuries hurt badly in the cold. After waiting outside for a long time with the Uber not showing up, we went back inside to wait near the door, in the corner, not blocking anyone. The staff at the door immediately came in and started rudely and aggressively kicking us out. He refused to speak English with me after I clearly said, "I don't speak French, so talk to me in English." He kept talking French and was rude to my wife, my niece, and me. He told the waitress in French that we were "blocking the way," which was 100% false. (My wife speaks French) We were just standing near the entrance, waiting for a few minutes, trying to get out of the cold. When I went to the cashier and explained, "This guy is kicking me out. I just paid for my meal. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: you're still a customer, and you shouldn't be kicked out and treated like trash just because you're waiting for your Uber on crutches. I'm on crutches, it's cold, and my Uber isn't here yet," they called a waitress who also started telling us to leave instead of helping. She didn't try to find a solution; she just said, "No, no, leave, leave." This is not just bad service. This is disgusting, disrespectful treatment of a paying customer with a mobility issue. My niece, who had a blast all night, ended the trip saying, "What the f....? You bring me here and they treat us like this?" She now has a bad impression of Montreal because of this place. My niece is from New York City, and she's also posting her own review. That review will be seen by people in New York and by tourists looking for recommendations. If you treat tourists like this, you're not just ruining one night, you're ruining the image of the whole city. Montreal is supposed to be a welcoming city for tourists and people looking to have fun and be treated with respect. La Banquise failed that completely. The food was okay, but the experience was terrible because of how we were treated. This is unacceptable. You should be ashamed of how you handled this.
