To celebrate my birthday, my friends and I decided to have dinner at La Capital Tacos. Its located right inside China Town, which was unexpected but delightful. We were sat right away and our server was friendly. The restaurant was busy yet efficient. I got the pastor tacos and was happy to see they served them with pineapple bits on top, which is exactly how pastor tacos should be served. The salsa had the right amount of heat. And the price was right. I had the horchata, and it was also tasty. The fact that they serve their food on quintessential "American Chinese food plates" was hilarious.
I had a great meal at La Capital Tacos when I was visiting Montreal a few weeks ago. Everything about this meal was fantastic: great vibes (really cool space, fun music), great service, great space (bar seating, indoor seating, and outdoor seating)...but the food and drinks is really what impressed me! The whole menu looked amazing, but I ordered their quesabirria (pulled beef, cheese, cilantro, onions, and radish on a flour tortilla with consome - so delicious) and a mezcalita tamarindo (outstanding - from the drink itself to the garnishes, which included a chapulin/grasshopper). I wanted everything on this menu (loved that it was vegan friendly and had amazing drink options - down to different mezcals that are listed by the agave variety on the menu!). And I wanted to hang out longer - it was just a cool space with great food and drinks! Loved my meal here.
This is probably one of the better taco places I've been to, and we eat A LOT of tacos. The service was excellent and all of our food was delicious. The best salad even was bursting with flavor. The margaritas were delicious as well. Super cute restaurant aesthetically fitting for Chinatown but the food was authentically Latino. *Note: we were a large party if 11 people and made a reservation on OpenTable. When we got there the restaurant told us they do not actually use that App. However they pulled a table together quickly for all of us and were very nice about it! **The menu also had several gluten free items!
Pros: -Beautiful outdoor seating right near the Chinatown gate -Fantastic service--incredibly quick and helpful -Delicious guacamole and tacos Phenomenal experience all around! Preferred the birria tacos to the al pastor. If I were in town longer I'd try them all!
We came here 20 minutes after opening and the place was already packed! I got la carnitas which are tacos with pork and the cuba drink (rum, coke, and lime juice). We also shared the guac and chips. I found the tacos were lacking some flavour where I was squeezing as much of the side of lime I could for the flavour. The tacos however were a great portion and 3 can easily fill you up. I was also not a huge fan of the Cuba (drink). I saw the shrimp tacos and they looked much better- I knew I should've gotten those ones. The guacamole needed more lime juice. Service was nice and very quick.
Loved the vibes and the margarita was better. Located in Chinatown of all places. Food was delish..but I did wish they doubled up our tortillas... they ended up falling apart.
Being Mexican and from Los Angeles, I think I know good tacos. But these tacos were delicious. I love how they put guacamole on each taco and the red hot sauce was spicy but not too spicy and so flavorful. Next time I'm in Montreal I am definitely stopping by...
Tacos are my favourite! And good tacos are hard to come by, I've been looking for a good taco place in Montreal and have finally found one! The ambiance is super chill, staff and service was exceptional. My server was so good! She brought me everything I needed without even having to ask. The tacos were also so tasty! My favourite were the Birria, the meat was so tender and flavourful and the consommé added even more flavour. There were also 2 hot sauces that added a nice heat but you could really taste the flavour which I loved. Keep Eating, Angela
As a taco queen, I desperately wanted to enjoy this place. The tacos here were just okay. ( well at least the one that I got) We started with some guac and chips which were pretty good. If you mess up guac then idk but this place is safe with that. I got the al pastor tacos which were okay. Nothing to rave about as the meat and taco itself was pretty bland. Once you add the sauces they give you, then it elevates the taco a bit. My friend had the birria tacos and we each swapped a taco for a taco. Now, i'm honestly convinced you can't get birria anything bc these were a hard NO for me. The meat lacked sooooo much flavor and just tasted extremely bland. Even dipped into the consome and even dressed up with the little sauces. I couldn't finish mine. This place serves mid tacos at best but the service was pretty good.
La Capital Tacos has been on my list of places to visit for so long, and I finally got to eat there! Overall it was good, but it was not as epic as I thought it was going to be, lol. Tacos come 3 per order and you can't mix types. I got the Pastor ($10), which was pork with onions, cilantro and pineapple. My husband got the Rosarito ($12.50), which was battered shrimp with cabbage and salsa. He also got a local beer, La Fontaine ($7). We came around 5:45pm on a Saturday and managed to snag a table for 2 quickly, but within 15 minutes the place got super busy, with line ups out the door. The food is definitely well priced and the flavours were great. We were brought some chips with refried beans. We assumed they were complimentary because we did not order them and it looked like every table had them. We dug in and the beans were delicious, as were the crunchy homemade chips. In the end there was a charge of $3.50 for "Frijoles" on our bill. My husband didn't say anything because the charge was not exorbitant and the chips and beans were indeed good, and I only found out after he paid and we had left, but I don't know if this is common practice at this restaurant to automatically bring you chips and dip and then charge you for it, or if there was some sort of genuine mistake and somehow the server thought we had ordered them o_O Anyway, my Pastor tacos were tasty, but I found the meat a bit on the fatty side. The filling was abundant, and the corn tortilla held up well and didn't fall apart. My husband enjoyed his shrimp tacos. I didn't have any, so can't comment on them. I can't say I loved the environment because although no one rushed us, I don't feel all that relaxed when a long lineup of people are staring at me and either consciously or unconsciously giving me the "can you hurry up and eat so we can get out of the cold and eat too?" look. Lol. We were sitting right by the door. I think super popular places are just not for me. I like more relaxed places where we can take our time and linger and chat. I'm glad I tried it, but I think I'll just leave the popular places to the cool kids from now on ;)

Made an impromptu decision to get tacos on our last night in montreal. The vibes of this place are nice inside with some cute decor. We tried the vegan tacos and quesadillas and they were OK, tasted bland to me with no good sauces to save it. Options for non-veg and drinks looked great though read more
Always thought it was interesting to open a tacos restaurant in Chinatown so finally got to try it. Despite all the good reviews, I was a little disappointed. Everything ordered lacked seasoning. The guacamole lacked salt and lime Juice. Tacos didn't taste much different from one another. Drinks were ok. read more

Since most of the better, more authentic-feeling latin American Restaurants are concentrated near Little Italy, it's nice to have La Capital in Chinatown. I've eaten there a few times, but their excellent takeout during the pandemic prompted me to write this review. Tacos are listed as coming in a set of 3 but actually they come in a set of four (they give you four tortillas and a very healthy portion of meat.) I love that they come separately you so can assemble them. For four tacos it's a much better value and they are delicious. Plus it makes it easier to share with my husband. My favorite are the al pastor (although i will say they give you a hilariously small slice of pineapple per taco.) I also really love the barbacoa quesadilla which is so thick and completely full of meat. Guac is standard but solid. They also give you all of the little salsas on the side so you can mix and match. Service in person has always been fast and the people have always been nice. There's often a line since it's a very popular spot, but it's normally not too too crazy. read more

Hotel proximity, the casual atmosphere, and decent Yelp reviews brought us here first thing on our trip to Montreal. Flavorful guacamole and finely puréed refritos, more substance than salt, were a great start with our warm tortilla chips. The Ribeye, 3 corn tortillas, was great with the fruitful red wine the waiter recommended, and had a hint of spice without being vengeful. The Rosarito covered the bases for fish tacos with crunch, fruit, and spice. We weren't offered a kids meal but the portions were good for a little one (and what kid doesn't love chips?). That, and the colorful, casual atmosphere was unpretentious and pleasant for all ages. For us LCT was comfort food in a casual spot at the end of a long drive, and they got everything right. The menu was short, the food was tasty but arrived quick, and left us satisfied long after. Our Mexican/Latin cuisine, street tacos without the truck, on Chinese plates, in a Francophone city, with friendly staff sympathetic to our English, made this a great stop. ¡Muy bien!, très bien, well done overall. Not fine dining, yet so fine! read more

Came here on a whim with my girlfriends and the vibes were on point. The tacos were flavourful and the restaurant had a welcoming ambiance. The guac was fire however they messed up our taco order but they were still all delish. Overall amazing place for drinks and dinner, you really get a bang for your buck!! read more

We decided to order in Tacos for Girls Night! I ordered a plate of 4 Ribeye Tacos. Everyone was satisfied with their options. The food came with all the toppings & sauces served at the restaurant. They ended up sending me 5 Ribeye Tacos! The flavours were excellent and everything tasted great and fresh, even though we assembled the Tacos at home. The sauces were spicy and enough for everyone. Would definitely recommend ordering from here, as it tastes the same delivered like it does at the restaurant! read more
Wow! La Capital Tacos make some damn good tacos! Came here for a quick bite to eat during dinner, took a while to be greated (we actually almost walked out, glad we did not though). Ordered the shrimp tacos and the hubby got the special of the day that came with 3 different tacos. I could have ordered round after round of the shrimp tacos, it was like a flavour bomb going off during each bite. Amazing! Also tried the jamaika margarita and it was delish! Def recommend. Loved the vibe of this place, and the quick service. I did not notice any spiders on the ceiling as noted in the other reviews, so hopefully they got that problem fixed. The building that the restaurant is in has some wear and tear, but dont let that scare you away. Seriously....check this place out...and please do yourself a favour and order the shrimp tacos! read more

This. Is. It. The best guacamole I've ever had (not counting the one my boyfriend makes). It tastes so creamy and avocad-y and delicious. They do sprinkle some tomatoes and onions at the top but I just scooped those out. It also has a small hint of lime which I loved. I ordered the beef quesadilla and it was so goooooood. A great mix of beef and cheese (which I dipped into my guacamole). I also got to try their frijoles refritos and watch out Ta Chido. They serve theirs lukewarm and it makes such a difference. Super fun restaurant. Tacos in chinatown? Heck yeah. Everything was served in oriental dishes and it looked so cool. Everyone was friendly while they were serving us. So worth it! read more
This place is located right at the beginning of China Town. I had heard great things about this place and when i found myself in the area, I didn't miss the chance to go. But unfortunately, it was less than par. I ordered the quesadilla, while my friend ordered the rib-eye taco. We also ordered two drinks, margarita and mojito. They waitress told us they have the best margarita in town. Which is totally false, both of us did not enjoy our drinks asm the food was no better. The quesadilla was shredded chicken with cheese and they used cilantro as garnish which I do not like at all. Furthermore, the taco was not crispy, the ribeye was not seasoned and the only garnish was again cilantro. Yes service was fast, and maybe if they took their time they could give out better food. Also the price for the amount of food and alcohol they give you ridiculous. read more
What do you get when you mix fresh guacamole, savoury beef dipping sauce, excellent quesadillas with a fun, friendly, quirky serving staff? - A delicious authentic tasting taco joint in Montreal's Chinatown (for some reason ). No need to make a wish for awesome tacos at the tree across the street, its right there read more
