When it comes to tacos I like to think I'm a bit of an expert, with that being said these tacos were amazing. The menu has quite a few options but I definitely suggest the tacos. They have all sorts of tacos to choose from from steak, pork, chicken and vegetarian options! You have the choice of sitting inside or outside and once you choose what you want to eat the food comes out very quickly and if your impatient like I am it's definitely a plus. I ended up ordering the skirt steak tacos, the cactus and cheese dip, the vegetarian plate and finished with a churro. The tacos were phenomenal and came on an order of 4 which I love as you usually only get 3 at most places. The cactus and cheese consists of roasted cactus and oxaca cheese for a perfect salty compliment to the cactus. It's served with tortillas as well. The vegetarian plate was beans, rice, salad roasted veggies cheese and tortillas as well. The rice and beans are worth ordering on there own! And when you want to finish off with something sweet the churro is the way to go! Served warm and stuffed with dolce de leche. If your in the area or shopping at the market you gotta stop here!

Great authentic Mexican food in Montreal with friendly service. You shouldn't leave hungry.

Mixed grill for tacos

Happy to have come for lunch. Authentic (I believe) mexicain food. Many choices of plates, meats and sides. We had pleasant and friendly service. So many choices. The mixed grill was a great way to introduce myself to their flavours. Very nice. Everything was fresh and tasty. They also have a market section for fresh or imported items. Gracias

Carne tacos and salsa

It seems hard to find a good value Mexican restaurant in Montreal with most either being great but too expensive for what they are or on the cheaper side with the food clearly lacking. However, this place hits right in the middle! No frills here but they make up for it in flavour. The places looks very small from the outside but there's a lot of seating further inside so don't let that deter you! Their menu is great and has a lot of authentic dishes and drinks to choose from (barely any vegetarian options though, sorry). They will start you off with some complimentary chips and salsa to open up your appetite. Highly recommend the al pastor tacos I ordered, very juicy! The carne tacos were dressed and came with their own sides and seemed a little plain. Their Cubano sandwich was pretty good (and massive). Everything was very decently priced. So many options of the menu can't wait to come back and try some more.

Been here plenty of times, as JT Market is only a few minutes away from me! Great spot to grab some tacos for a lil picnic spread with friends. Mostly recently went on the morning of Easter Sunday, as they were one of the few places that were open and to fulfill my Mexican cravings! We got the pork tacos, they were spicy and yummy and it came with a side of rice! Good value but I wish it was a wee bit more flavorful. Great choices of plates and dishes, I also got the plate of nachos with my friends last summer. Would come again!

Still as good as ever! Went back after the lockdown was lifted, and though prices have sadly gone up the food as still very tasty. We tried the menudo this time! First time trying this mexican dish and it was great. Not too spicy. It came with tortillas on the side and plenty of tender tripe.

My beef soup and chicken fajita thing

My wife and I dined here for lunch after walking around Marche Jean-Talon.There were plenty of seating and the staff was very attentive. I got the beef soup and the 'fish' buffer. Boo Boo got the chicken fajita thing. The taste was there but we've definitely had better. My fish taco were more veggie than fish. There was a lot of sauteed onions and carrots and a small morsel of fish in each tacos. The churros were stale. like its been sitting out for a few days. My expectations were not high so a 3 stars is fair. Its like eating at the subway next to the world trade center. American cc accepted. Tip your wait staff in cash.

We haven't forgotten about #tacotuesday just becsuse it's November. @leroidutaco has earned that name with their juicy, well-seasoned, very flavourful meat in abundance and variety. The menu isn't limited to tacos - some very tasty and savoury soups, nachos, chiles, quesadillas and desserts are also available and every one of them is a great choice!

Fast and efficient service. Food is slightly above average Mexican while a bit on the expensive side, which is typical of Jean-Talon at large these days. The kind of place you'd stop at if it's on your way, but not worthy of a detour.

This is the perfect (big) hole-in-the-wall for a snack/lunch after or before the market rush. No fuss. No flare. Just tacos and things. They also have a grocery section that you can pick up tortillas, guac, queso, etc. Although I've tasted other things there I always end up taking the menudo soup (tripes) and the lengua tacos (beef tongue) and they are always delicious. Honestly, just go.

Dips for tortilla chips

We had a late breakfast at El Rey Del Taco on my birthday. We walked in and were told to sit wherever we like. We sat and were brought waters and tortilla chips with salsa immediately. The waitress explained the heat level of the three salsas and then left us to look at the menus. We ordered 3 dishes and they were delivered very quickly. My husband had the beef tongue tacos and he thought they were very tender and delicious. He had to order some guacamole on the side as they needed something. He also used some of the salsa from the chips. Our son had the carne tacos which were also very good. He also needed to order some sour cream as they needed something. I had the pork sopes and they were great. They were served with rice, which was also good and guacamole which was made exactly the way I like it with lots of flavour and nice and chunky. If we lived in the area, we'd definitely return to El Rey Del Taco. Good food for a good price and friendly service.

The steak tacos were pretty good but some of the steak was pretty tough. The chicken tacos were great and probably the best seasoned of the three. The pork tacos were good and the pineapple offered a good contrast. They gave a large bowl of guacamole on the side which was really good and made all the tacos a lot better. They also put fries on top of the tacos, which was a fun addition but ultimately made all the tacos taste too similar. Usually different taco flavours have red onion or cabbage or diced tomatoes as a garnish, but in this case they were just topped with fries so there wasn't enough flavour distinction and all the tacos taste the same after a while. Despite that, you really can't beat the value offered by the taco box so we would certainly be tempted to buy it again when we're craving tacos.

The server saw we didn't eat them and did not even bother to ask why or show any concern when she took the uneaten plate away and brought the bill. Sangria was equally bad. Way too sweet, probably from soda being added. This review really deserves one star, but the salsa selection was good, so I'll throw a star in for that. This meal was so bad we actually went to another Mexican restaurant to try and erase the experience. See my review of Lakalaka located on the other end of St Denis. It is worth the trip compared to what you will get here.

You have a choice of 5 different tacos for the AYCE menu ( carnitas, steak, pastor, chorizo, and veggie). My favourites were the steak, carnitas, and pastor. You get two sauces on the side and every taco is garnished with onions and coriander with a lime wedge for each taco you order. They are so good and bite sized, my friends and I had 13-15 tacos each and we were so full by the end but so content. For all you can eat it is a great deal. The service is also very fast which is good because they keep the tacos coming. I've also been during non AYCE days and have tried the burrito (huge and flavourful and filling), and the chips and guac (good!), and the steak quesadilla (one of my favourites! so gooey and cheesy). I recommend also getting the hojicha drink! It's milky and refreshing. You can't go wrong with this place. Everything on the menu is good and staff is really friendly. The space is also very big and there's a good variety of tables and booths. Has lots of decorations on the walls and theme music playing.

We were in Montreal for several days and decided to go casual on our anniversary and we were craving Mexican food. We made a reservation as the place is crazy busy. We arrived, had to wait a few minutes before we were seated. The hostess looked up our reservation and seated us without saying anything to us. We took our seats and looked at drinks before looking at the menu. Our server took awhile to come to our table, took our drink order and an appetizer order and left. The drinks finally came out along with the chips and guacamole and we decided to make our decision on dinner. We waited, and waited, and waited about 40 minutes for our server to come back to take our dinner order. She was fairly nice, but rushed. Again, we waited and waited and waited for our dinners. We were enjoyed the food, it was flavorful, seasoned well, and really filled our craving for Mexican food. After we finished our dinner, again we waited, waited, and waited for our server to come back to our table. She never checked on us as to how we were enjoying our food. She brought the check, we paid, stood to leave and she said thank you as my husband handed the check back to her. He quickly mentioned it was our anniversary, she stopped and asked if we would want to sit back down and she would bring us a dessert. It was nice to offer, but she could have learned this if she would have taken a moment to talk to us. We didn't need a long conversation, just to feel welcome, and we felt in the way as they were busy. We thanked her, but we didn't want to spend an hour waiting for a dessert, so we graciously declined and left. It really is a shame. If the service was better, and the food came out quickly, they could turn tables quicker. I don't know if they are short staffed, but it really was disappointing.
