The staff were super friendly and provided info about the sales and various styles. Honestly, you could go crazy with buying them for the various holidays and seasons. They even have flip flops now. I'll see how comfy they are to walk around in, but I think I'll be back for more.

John was helping a customer and never acknowledged my presence. After maybe 5 minutes an African American young woman I had passed when entering the store (she was at the pant rack near the front) came over. Standing maybe 8 feet away she started asking questions. I told her that with the loud music I couldn't hear her. She never budged and kept asking questions; I kept repeating that I couldn't hear her. I had my service dog who was sitting quietly. I heard her say something about the dog. Refusing to come near me meant she could not help fit me with a shoe. I asked for her name, and she turned and went to the back of the store. I then asked John for her name and he asked why I wanted it. When I explained that she was refusing to help me he stated "she would never do that." I explained I wanted to report this to the manager (who I have met -he is great). Per my request he called out the assistant store manager from the back. I explained what happened. No apology offered. He said "I'm here now" and offered to help. If she had an issue with a service dog she should have just called the manager to help. So much for good service! I left and drove to REI where I bought my shoes. So in the end they did me a favor. I got my walking shoes!!

Back in the day, I used to frequent this Banana Republic store for online returns since Woodbridge…read moredoesn't have a store. The store's layout used to be an even 50-50 split between men's and women's apparel. The men's section here has always been limited compared to the selection at larger BR stores (e.g. North Brunswick, Bridgewater, Short Hills) especially in terms of suit sizing, but over the past decade the women's section has been gradually displacing the men's section, which now occupies less than 1/4 of this store's shelf space. I'm guessing this is due to shifts in the dying demographic of shoppers who still shop for clothes via brick-and-mortar. Store associates here have always been helpful (probably because they're usually not teenagers), and like at other BR locations the cashier is located in the middle of the store. How this BR store has managed to stay afloat for this long is a complete enigma, considering that all of its neighbors on the second floor crumbled (even before the pandemic) and have since been replaced by off-off-off brand retailers, a slime factory, and a wine & paint studio. Even the Gap store here didn't survive. This particular wing of Menlo Park Mall on the second level has historically been very prone to turnover, so I'd keep an eye out for any liquidation announcements in the near future.
