When my wife shops shoes, I normally stay in the car because I cannot stand to see the mess awaiting her. All of these huge shoe 'warehouses' seem to be an unkempt disaster. I've been shopping loyally to DSW for several years now so when I heard they were opening up a store at Gateway Center, I was really excited to have it so close to me! My wallet wasn't as excited but anyway! This location is large and spacious. There's plenty of selection from athletic shoes, to boots, to sandals. They don't have a great deal of formal/fancy shoes unfortunately but that's not really what I look for in a shoe store. The fact that they offer it's own section is more than enough for me. The clearance section is towards the back, they are good finds but as with any clearance racks, you're going to have to do some digging. It's not super chaotic, the employees do their best to fix what customers move around and mess up. Their bags/accessories is in the front of the store, to the right of the entrance when you first walk in. This area is always neat and fairly organized. I found two really great bags today when I stopped by, and I appreciated how everything was grouped together by brand. The only issue I have to bring up with this particular location is their lack of employees. There aren't enough employees manning the register so the checkout line is always long. Today in particular (July 28, 2018) there was only one girl behind the counter. Granted that it was around 6 pm and not very busy, it wasn't a huge deal. But this isn't the first time that there has only been one register open. Basically every visit is a nice experience until it comes time to checkout. There have been times I've wanted to leave the line and the items I've picked up simply because the service is too slow. So do I recommend this DSW location? Yes, but make sure you go when it's not too busy like on a weekday, or when you don't have a pressing agenda to attend to afterwards. I hope this store hires a few more employees or at least gets a managing team in there to straighten out a few of their kinks. read more

I stopped in this particular DSW because I heard they had a grand opening sale that I must have missed. The set up is pretty similar to other DSW'S so I knew where to go first, all the way in the back to the clearance section. :-) Buying items off season you can usually get a sale. The store itself was clean and thankfully it wasn't crowded so I was able to browse the aisles in peace. The customer service was great with staff smiling and asking if you need help which was cool. I did get some sneakers for the gym and was able to use an old rewards coupon. This store is definitely a great addition to Gateway mall and I will return when I'm in the area. read more

I wanted to review the location at Atlantic terminal mall but since I've shopped at this location more I've decided to review them instead Both locations can do with more reps on the sales floor. The cashiers at the gateway location are very helpful. I'm not a frequent shopper here but when I did it wasn't a bad experience, just a lack of floor help. The gateway location is more well kept and far as cleanliness so it's easier to shop when there's more organized. Check out is pretty fast. read more

It's a good thing I shop mostly online nowadays. Unfortunately my cousin dragged me here because she procrastinated and I had to pay the price for her misfortunes as she tries to find a last minute gift for a kids party. I don't recall seeing a single associate on the sales floor. I guess we are really trying to save on payroll huh? One of my biggest pet peeves is a messy store. I am in Retail Management for over a decade and there is absolutely no excuse as to why products are not sorted correctly on the sales floor. The customer should not have to stand there going through box by box to play "guess what color shoe is in the box" for 20 minutes. Oh top of that, the two associates are all at the cashwrap.... Lovely! Let's get this line moving. The line took forever and a day and there was only 2 customers in front of us. DSW, please invest in self-checkout! Poor excuse of a dsw. I've been to many a dsw. But this one is just a sad excuse for one. The selection there is subpar. My daughter was looking for a dress shoe to take with her on vacation. So we ventured off to Gateway plaza to the new dsw. Well it's new to me since I no longer live in NY. I was surprised to see all the new shops that have sprung up over there. Well this one was a disappointment. The selection of dres shoes was well...lacking. I grew up in a time when here were shopping areas with shoe stores up and down the block. Over the years I've seen them disappear. It's truly unfortunate. When dsw came along it seemed to replace that long ago era but it just doesn't offer up the same variety and service. This store is definitely lacking in variety. They need new buyers or something. read more

I was not impressed by this location. Let me start off by saying I love DSW! And I expected that since this is a new location and I wet the day it opened I would get first dibs on some good shoes. However I was sadly disappointed. Maybe as time goes on they will get better inventory. read more

Worst experience ever. 3 cashiers on a warm Saturday afternoon in winter at 3:30 pm. Wrap around line with a manager standing staring at us with a smile on her face talking into her walkie. I really don't want to even give a star, this location is terrible. My sister and I were followed through out the store (the only people to be followed), making it very uncomfortable to shop. Not once were we asked if we needed help, when we decided to leave, a worker followed us from another aisle and stood at the front to watch us leave. I must say the experience started out good, when the sales person said "they could order the shoes in my size!" But if I have know it was gonna to take one month in a half to get the shoes I would not have order them. The order went to the post office after they said they could not deliver the order. I send someone to pick up the shoes and the post office would not give the order because they stated it was not my name. So the cashier at the store who put the order in on-line put all the information in wrong. I called to inquire and I spoke to a Ms. Kim Dahinger, manager customer experience & shoes lover (yeah right) stated that they was going to ship a pair of shoes to me at NO COST, because after all it was not my fault. I finally got the shoes, but they never credit my account. The story end as this I took the shoes back to the store and I will NEVER BUY SHOES from this store AGAIN! read more

So I run into DSW in Gateway Mall in Brooklyn to do a return. Long lines. Only 2 cashiers open. Lots of staff milling about straightening up and looking around. Even the manager, seeing the long lines, comes up to the front then starts straightening up the sample shoes on top of shoe boxes on the displays, rather than help out up front. (FYI, the store was in neat shape and all of the micro straightening of shoes was just a waste of time). A lady behind me has to yell out and ask him to please have another register open up. He looks perplexed, then calls someone on his headset. Seriously? Poor customer service. Need to train your managers/staff better. Decent selection, but time is money people!!! read more

This store is poorly managed. I ordered 2 pairs of shoes online for in store pick up. One pair arrived on time and I collected it before my scheduled trip. When I picked it up I advised the person at the register that I will be away for 10 days and I was disappointed that I did not get the other pair. The shoe arrived while I was away. I called the store the day after I returned only to be told the shoe arrived while I was away and it was held for 5 days then placed back on the floor. They sent an email. I had limited Internet service on my trip and never saw one. I will no longer shop at DSW and I have removed myself from their mailing list. I advised all of my network to do the same. read more
