Wish our project had come out better. The hole they drilled for the soap pump is cracking. It started in the back. They came out to repair it, but the crack is just continuing to grow and it's now in front of the pump traveling toward the edge of the sink. I'm a little depressed thinking about what's going to happen when the two pieces finally separate completely. No way can I sell my home now without someone asking for a credit for a new countertop. The areas where two pieces of granite meet were not put together very cleanly so you can not only see but feel the seam very clearly. Lastly, the granite was not sealed so it immediately began to stain with water. They sent someone to remove the stain, but instead of removing the stain the worker put sealer on the counter without cleaning it and now the water stains are sealed in. This was beautiful granite. It looks awful now. Between the seam, the cracks and the staining you would never know this counter is brand new and less than a year old. The only thing that could resolve this issue for me would be for them to replace the pieces of granite they did a poor job with. We had asked our builder several times to please have them resolve these issues. They came once and made a shoddy attempt at fixing the crack around the soap pump and sealed in the water stains, but after that were never seen or heard from again despite the worker telling me they'd be back to try something different with the cracks, seam, stains. If they materialize and fix my countertop I would gladly update my review, but as of right now I would not recommend using this installer. The warranty apparently was just a talking point so go elsewhere. read more

Had quite a handful of friends use David Shica for their counter tops. I personally visited almost every single stone yard within Austin for material and everyone knew and has worked with David and his crew before. The process was pretty smooth. Unfortunately things are still old-school and out of date where you have to pick a stone, get a price through David, and then keep looking around. It creates a bit of a head-ache just to get $/ft pricing quickly. Everyone works this way though. I was very nervous about the install, and how they measure, but it was all done very well. They come to your home and use a laser measurement system to get the dimensions almost exact. They they come with the slab cut-to-size and do a template for edging that might not be square, and/or your sink cut-outs. David typically answers his phone and is helpful. The one heads up I'll add: DS Surfaces *assumes* your flooring is rough and potentially in a state of to-be-sanded/installed later. If you are having them install a slab in an existing home or with relatively new flooring, you need to tell them this information. They don't build-in or take any measures to protect your floors. He will add time to the job and cost. I ended up installing and laying down RamBoard before they arrived, and I can guarantee you 100% that they would have damaged or scuffed our floors had I not. I think this is pretty silly, because it shouldn't matter if your home's floor is 1 day old, 1 year, or 10 years: they need to realize that a floor guard/board is a must on their end. You want others, whether it is or not, to treat your home as THEIR castle as much as it is yours. read more

I originally purchased a specialty countertop from Home Depot. After waiting 7 weeks, I was told that they could not give me any delivery date, as "the shipment was delayed". So I happened to purchase a remnant from DS Surfaces for an unrelated project. When I told David at DS Surfaces what happened, he immediately gave me options; came and measured the next day and had it installed exactly one week later. At a third of the Home Depot price. Incredible service. Their showroom isn't much but who cares when you get great quality products and service! Thank you guys so much! read more

These guys did a great job installing my quartz countertops. Their prices must be very competitive because I had received a quote from another company that was $1,000 higher. David is very nice. He sold me a nice stainless steel sink for a reasonable price, as I hadn't picked one out when he came to take measurements. I did have a hard time reaching him by phone once or twice, but I think it was a Friday afternoon and he responded the following Monday. The installers were punctual and did a good job. I used David Shica for my granite installation. He was recommended to me by Under Budget Cabinets because I was just doing granite counters and not an entire kitchen remodel, so I just dealt directly w/ David. David made the process really easy and pleasant. He gave me a fantastic price on my granite and also a great price on removing my old cabinets and backsplash. He was always on time, and was very forgiving when I was the one that was late meeting him at my condo for measurements. Going through David was really quick--from the time I paid my deposit until the granite was ready to install was only about a week. Compare that to the 5 week estimate the big box stores gave me. The day of the install David and his crew were in and out in just a few hours, and left everything nice and clean. I would definitely use David again! read more
