We have two gates. One of them is next to the garage, and the post that the gate latches to isn't actually a real post. It's just a hollow vinyl sleeve that's attached at the top to the garage, but it's not secured to the ground. It's basically floating. According to the original receipt, the installation included 5x5 posts set 36 inches into concrete footings. That clearly isn't the case here. I contacted the company and initially got their automated system and left my information. After not hearing back, I called again and spoke to someone who was able to locate the original job and said I'd get a call back within 24 to 48 hours. I did get a call the next day, but the person who called wasn't prepared. I still took the time to explain the issue and even sent photos and a video showing exactly what's going on. Despite that, he immediately started talking about costs without ever seeing the job in person. I made it clear that I wasn't calling about warranty coverage. I understand it's been more than a year. I simply asked for someone to come out, take a look, and provide an estimate in writing, along with an explanation of how the issue would be fixed. When he mentioned that the fix would likely involve installing a proper post, it raised the obvious question, why wasn't that done correctly in the first place? He said he had another meeting in 15 minutes and would follow up after speaking with a colleague. As expected, I haven't heard anything since.

(We eventually got the fence that we wanted for about $13,000 elsewhere - that shows you how far off it was.) If Post and Picket didn't want to work in our area, they could have simply said so. Instead they set us back months on our fencing project waiting for them to come out and waiting for the quote. Their price was so high above anything else we had quoted it is ridiculous. Apparently they only want to do fences for millionaires on the North Shore.

I was able to email them photos, they assessed and gave me a quote (which I thought was reasonable), and had the project finished within one week! One quoted an outrageous price, two quoted half the figure, and two promised to come out for a quote and never showed up. All had a number of poor reviews of their work on line. I held off getting the work done. This spring I contacted Pro Coat. Dave Marion quoted a fair price for the job, and warned me that he couldn't guarantee the old botched finish could be completely removed. He said his crew would test a small area and only if they could satisfactorily clean it, would they do my entire deck. His men arrived within the time frame Dave had estimated, the test cleaning worked perfectly, and within the day my deck was stripped, brightened and looking like new. A few days later Pro Coat was back and the deck was stained in an afternoon. Great care was taken to cover the side of the house next to the deck so no over-spray could get on the siding or brickwork. The yard was left immaculately clean. Alfredo did a great job of evenly and thoroughly applying the new stain to the inside and outside of the deck, despite the surrounding hedge making it difficult. My deck now looks like new, and the results were far better than I thought could possibly be achieved. Any future work I need will be done by Pro Coat, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their services to anyone.
