We hired different painters to paint our entire first floor after remodeling our bathrooms and kitchen. We were extremely disappointed in the shoddy workmanship and negligence they showed in painting our home. Pete did extra duty going to bat for me with my insurance company (State Farm) who was not going to pay for much of the repair work for ice damming. It was time to once again paint some of the walls in our house. We are planning to put the house up for sale soon, and we wanted some rooms to be repainted professionally. The job would require removing a lot of ancient wallpaper, refinishing the walls, and doing some ceiling repair. My wife works for the Village of Northbrook, which has used Pete to do a lot of its work, and she says that his company has done a very good job working on V of NB structures. We chose his company because he was very professional, knew a lot about the chemistry of paint, and had many good suggestions to get the house to look good. The job was done by one of his painters, who worked very hard: the man came in each morning at about 7:30 and remained working for 12 hours each day! The work was done very neatly, the painter properly covered and moved furniture and had an excellent work ethic. Everything was covered with plastic wrap and kept very clean. There was a minor snag which was fixed within a day. When the painter was removing some old wallpaper, he got some water into an electrical switch which blew the circuit breaker and - ZAP and POOF! - simultaneously rendered the switch unusable. Pete replaced the damaged switch the very next day. In summary, he did a good professional job that satisfied us, and we plan to ask him to come back to do some additional work just before the house is officially put on the market. We have a big cathedral ceiling (with a wall crack) in our great room. I am going to ask him to paint either the Last Judgment or Last Supper on the wall of our cathedral ceiling. Met with Pete the Painter to get a bid on painting the entire basement of our Church preschool. Walls were damaged during a flood and floor boards were ripped out by water remediation company. I got 4 painting bids and felt that Pete's was the best. We got a good recommendation from city of Highland Park as well. What I often fail to ask is - will you be doing the work, and if not, will you be here, and who is painting. Two painters showed up on the scheduled day and had no clue as to what needed to be done. Pissed me off something fierce!! I called Pete right away and he talked with the two guys doing the work. Work was fine. Nothing exceptional. Was disappointed that the plaster repair didn't go all the way to the floor. Painters said, no need, floor boards will cover that. Only problem. Floor boards are vinyl and are not rigid like wood baseboards, so these push in in different places where plaster is missing behind them. All in all. Fine job. Could have gone with out the stories of who Pete is suing, like Angies list and so forth. Made us nervous. I told him he probably shouldn't mention stuff like that when bidding a job - and then he proceeded to tell another story of another lawsuit. Oh well. Job's done now and that's what matters. read more

I never write reviews but my experience with Pete has been so awful I have to do anything I can to warn others...DO NOT USE PETE THE PAINTER!!! We hired Pete to paint the entire interior of our new home before we moved in. We needed the job done in a week and Pete assured us that he could have it done. Told us he would have a crew of 4-5 guys here everyday. First day two guys showed up and all I got was a handful of excuses from Pete. Second day again...two guys and more excuses. In the end the job took over two weeks, we had to postpone our moving date and all the other details that go along with that because of Pete the Painter. At that point I figured stuff happens, not a big deal and at least it's being done right. Oh how I was mistaken. About six months later I noticed flecks of white paint stuck on my floor. We soon realized the paint was peeling off all the baseboards and when my cleaning lady mopped the floor, her mop would brush against the wall (which is totally normal) and the paint would come off and stick to the mop and then stick to my floor. Upon further inspection and numerous opinions from other local painters we came to the conclusion that none of the proper prep work was done. They did not sand, prime properly or use the correct type of paint and now every baseboard, piece of trim and door in my house has peeling paint. We have contacted Pete numerous times. He refuses to admit any fault in this situation and all he can give us are more and more excuses. He offered to "touch-up" the spots that are peeling but what good will that do? He blamed my cleaning lady for using the wrong kind of mop (she cleans five other people's homes that I know and this has not happened in their houses.) He then told me that was normal "wear and tear." After six months? I don't think so. And finally he told me he would be happy to redo everything but it would cost me the same as it would anybody else. Seriously? If I'm going to pay someone to fix it do you really think I am going to pay him to do it??? After that we decided to just chalk it up to "we got screwed" and move on. And I told myself I would do everything in my power to make sure nobody else gets screwed like we did. So, if your considering using Pete the Painter please do yourself a favor and don't. Run in the other direction...fast!!! read more
