Best deal on high quality pellets. Got three tons delivered and stacked for significantly less than a big box store. Support local. :)

The pickup area is clearly marked and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It's not their fault that the website was being weird, but it was a little frustrating to have to go in since I'm recovering from an ankle injury. But, as I said, the staff that helped me were very nice!

They also had a military discount and while they still do Home Depot now has one to match it. Lowe's does have a way better garden and nursery selection still today. I do feel like the Lowe's experience is generally declining and Home Depot is improving over time with competition though. Based on my last two experiences with Ithaca Lowe's in particular; #1 I called and they said that rented no equipment (ie auger, log splitter) #2 I shopped Lowe's today and really didn't see anyone working in the store for directions to a product I couldn't find. When I finally did find someone they told me they were in certain aisles but didn't walk me over. Guess what ? None of that item in any of those aisles. Walked right past the woman that told me they would be there and she never asked if I found what I was looking for. Maybe I expect too much?Moved on to harbor freight up the street and purchased what I was looking for right away. It's not that I really have anything against Lowe's now it just that these things are making me feel like there are more options of places I'd "start first".

One of our other managers, Dave, left the state left the company and came back to cortland and the company. It's all about the treatment they give and how welcoming they are to customers. The staff is friendly, and multiple times someone has taken the time to walk me through all the details of a challenging project. The garden staff is also excellent and really takes the time to help you identify the right plant. I can't think of very many Ithaca businesses where most of the staff have been working there for so long.

What used to be a friendly, helpful neighborhood hardware store now feels like a cold, chaotic warehouse run by people who would rather avoid customers than help them. The aisles are cluttered with stacks of products crammed so high it feels more like a storage unit than a store. Items I used to grab quickly are now scattered in bizarre places, and trying to find anything is an exhausting scavenger hunt. What makes it worse is the staff. The old team actually cared and would walk with you to the product you needed. Now, employees sit at desks, glance up as you wander around lost, and then go back to ignoring you. When you finally force yourself to ask, you get nothing but vague pointing. Heaven forbid they get up and actually show you where something is. The so-called new management is even worse. The guy running the garden department in particular has managed to turn one of the best parts of the store into a reason to never come back. Instead of listening to customers, he argues. Instead of helping, he brags about his "degree" like that's supposed to mean anything to someone who's been gardening since before he was born. It's insulting, condescending, and flat-out unprofessional. The spirit of the store is gone. The warmth, the helpfulness, the sense that this was a place you could rely on--it's all been replaced with arrogance, rudeness, and a corporate feel that has no place in Ithaca. If this is what being "Ace" means, count me out. I'll gladly take my business elsewhere.

When we needed to replace our patio [deck] door, Sean was very kind and patient and helped us choose a good one at a great price. We had Lowe's install it, and the price was fair and the work superb. I took one star off because our family has had 100% bad luck with their lumber department. I bought a sheet of plywood that I needed for a portable baby bed ["Pack and Play"] and had them cut it to fit. When I got it home the piece was off by more than 2". I had to hack at it with a handsaw to get it to fit in time for our infant granddaughter's arrival the next day. While it wasn't an "exhaustive study" I have relatives in 2 other states who've had their Lowe's cut lumber for them with the same result, and found their reputation uniformly bad with respect to getting it right. That said, we got fair pricing and great service purchasing the door, refrigerator, a dishwasher and a gas stove, so Lowes is still our go-to for most hardware and appliances. [We had to re-direct a gas line, so had our plumber install the stove.]
