I used to like Lowe's in general over Home Depot because the store seemed cleaner and more finished look as a retail store. They also had a military discount and while they still do Home Depot now has one to match it. Lowe's does have a way better garden and nursery selection still today. I do feel like the Lowe's experience is generally declining and Home Depot is improving over time with competition though. Based on my last two experiences with Ithaca Lowe's in particular; #1 I called and they said that rented no equipment (ie auger, log splitter) #2 I shopped Lowe's today and really didn't see anyone working in the store for directions to a product I couldn't find. When I finally did find someone they told me they were in certain aisles but didn't walk me over. Guess what ? None of that item in any of those aisles. Walked right past the woman that told me they would be there and she never asked if I found what I was looking for. Maybe I expect too much?Moved on to harbor freight up the street and purchased what I was looking for right away. It's not that I really have anything against Lowe's now it just that these things are making me feel like there are more options of places I'd "start first". read more

This is a pretty well equipped store. Usually find exactly what I need fast. The staff has always been helpful. Although the store is large, it's pretty easy to navigate. It's also pretty convenient mainly cause it's off meadow a bit and has its own large lot. read more

I went to this location to pick up an online order I had placed. I had issues with the website and app for checking in, as I planned to get it curbside, so I ended up giving up after about 10 minutes and just went inside to get it. The pickup area is clearly marked and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It's not their fault that the website was being weird, but it was a little frustrating to have to go in since I'm recovering from an ankle injury. As you can see by the picture, the product Lowes advised me to use turned out to be a blotchy mess. I returned to the Paint Department and was told just paint over it. What I found to be true is you just don't paint over stain. And as a result the paint chips. Third trip to Lowes I talked to the manager. He was extremely short with me and unpleasant. No apologies just a bad attitude. He compted me poly to put over the paint. I will need to talk to a professional before any more problems. This isn't the first time I have either gotten bad advice or sales people who admit they aren't trained in their departments and don't care. I have been told to "go elsewhere". At 72 years old on a fixed income I thought I could save a few dollars but not worth it. Don't bother calling corporate they aren't helpful either. Shame on Lowes! read more

Saw this employee, who seemed to be a manager, walk around with his mask hanging from one ear for several minutes. I'm certain hardly any employees wear their masks while in the back area, but he couldn't be bothered to just leave it on while on the floor, even though all the other employees are told to wear a mask. I live nearby and go to Lowe's about once every two weeks. I have bought appliances from here and I hope to offer a fair review. It's true that there can be many more people hired to be on the Lowe's floor to help people (often, I am searching for a good 10 minutes for help), once you do get someone, about a good half of them are congenial and do their best to help. To the company, please treat your workers better as I can sense they could use more kindness, benefits, and training. I do think there could always be someone at the Pro desk (you're supposed to get specialized treatment at this desk but often I do not find anyone there to speak with and this could have something to do with personnel as they are often called away to help others). On to the good things. Now that I've had horrible service with Best Buy and probably would never go there again for appliances and installation, I can say that Lowe's delivery and delivery service is excellent. Whoever they contract, the delivery service messages several days before, then the day before. They confirm a window; on the day of the delivery, they mention an even more accurate window of a couple of hours, and then call when they are a half hour away. I have not received this kind of accurate delivery, especially in Ithaca, in a really long time. I want to commend the delivery men for being on time, courteous, and working in all kinds of weather, while carrying heavy loads and working with a wide array of personalities. Please give the delivery people are raise! Immediately after the delivery, the company called to ask if the delivery went well. Excellent delivery service. I think this is all worth saying as it's more customary to post bad reviews, understandably. This one is a good one for the hard working people who back up, support, labor, and need more pay and acknowledgement from big businesses. read more

I worked for Lowes for about 4 weeks. That was all I could take. The company has presumably a good outlook as far as the CEO indicates during the online academic training: growth oriented and honesty and integrity are stressed. I'm still on hold with their "associate" telephone number, which they aren't answering. They owe me my final paycheck which was supposed to be directly deposited to my bank today. It hasn't and it's now 2:29 PM, the bank has verified that it wasn't received. The reviews by customers are accurate, I question how the other employees get through the training? I was doing the work of at least 3 other employees, and my manager was literally not well mentally... even though she might claim to the contrary. Lots of angry customers when I went in today trying to find out where my pay is, eventually told to call the benefits line, which got me nowhere. I will file with the Department of Labor, wages and hours, if I don't get paid. Still on hold with the associates line.... look, the US is a haven for these kinds of individuals, low intellect and zero integrity... I had hoped this would be somewhere where I could do honest work with reasonably honest individuals. Some were, those in management... well. No wonder they're "always hiring." read more

I ordered a rug online and went to pick it up in the store. The signs directing me to pickup orders entered near a "RETURNS" desk, with no indication once you were inside where to go for pickups. I attempted to speak to a woman at the returns desk to ask if she could page someone to the pickup desk but she did not. The woman was extremely rude and condescending as she mumbled for me to give her the order number. Then when I tried to show her the number on my phone she walked away and told a young clerk next to her she would have to go and get the order. The clerk was new and did not know the procedure or apparently where the order would be found. Eventually a man from another desk took the order number and returned with my rug, and said nothing, just dropped it at my feet. I have never been treated so badly by a service department staff, and intend to never shop at Lowe's again. if they aren't staffed to accommodate pickup orders then why do they take those orders? read more

Lowes delivered this fridge and the internal light did not work. called Lowe's and they sent a technician who was unable to fix the issue and said we would need a new fridge. the fridge we ordered was no longer in stock and would not be carried by Lowe's again. we tried to live without a working fridge light but were unable. when I called to get another fridge, Lowe's refused to return this defective fridge even though there was documentation from customer service within 2-3 weeks of purchase. I was instructed to find a comparable fridge and initiate an exchange. every comparable type of price of fridge was out of stock or unavailable on Lowe's website and at my local store. I called Lowe's as soon as I saw their fridges in stock again and they refused to help me. they instructed me to call the manufacturer myself even though Lowe's is the one who delivered this defective fridge. I was put on hold several times only to be told there was nothing Lowe's could do to help me. I still needed a fridge, they refused to take the defective fridge back and refused to acknowledge their mistake. they kept putting it on the manufacturer when clearly Lowe's damaged the fridge during transport and delivery. now I have to go through the manufacturer myself and spend hours on the phone trying to fix a product that I purchased from Lowe's. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING AGAIN FROM ANY LOWES. their customer service is a joke as they do nothing to support or back up the products sold in their store. Lowes does not care about my concerns and obviously customer service is no longer a priority as I am left to find a solution on my own. read more

OK, it's a huge, big-box "hardware" type store with an inventory you would expect, but the helpful nature of the sales staff stood out. It was 11 on a Sunday morning, and though it was not busy at all, there were lot's of employees who were easy to find, and one even sought us out to offer help. Nice. read more

Very mediocre customer service. Asking a sales person for help is an exercise in either irritability or blank stares. Cashiers have scripts they repeat in record time; no one appears actually to enjoy working here. The place, like Home Depot, is huge; great for contractors, no so good for the average customer. I live on a village road in Dryden that has a sign on each end indicating that the weight limit is 5 tons. However, almost every day a Lowe's delivery truck goes by at least once. Sometimes once in each direction. I guess the driver(s) thinks the law doesn't apply to him. I've spoken to the manager in the Cortland store, but nothing's changed. I had a better experience with customer service I guess--I went in to buy a leaf blower, and I had a very helpful sales person recommended one that was going on sale the following week--he told me I could buy it BEFORE it went on sale and just come in with the receipt next week to get the sale price. Also, I wanted a second (back up) battery and charger for it. He showed me it was actually only $30 more to buy a second whole leaf blower at the sale price. In short, he was knowledgeable, courteous and GREAT!! The store had good selection and was well organized, uncrowded, and prices were competitive! read more
