I decided to get my hair done before going back home from my trip in NYC. I've heard of Drybar, so why not give it a try. I made an appointment 3 hours ago through phone prior with no problem. I forgot the name of the lady who attended to me at the salon but she didn't really have any customer service, she just did her job (styling) which is ok with me. The way she styled my hair did hurt but beauty is pain I guess. My neck felt like it was gonna burn but it all paid off. My hair came out beautiful... it lasted for about 4 days. read more

Just finished up a delightFULL experience with Jonathan! I felt so well cared-for, and am walking out feeling ready to take on a week with confidence and beautiful hair!! Everything was clean and exactly as you would expect at each Drybar location. I have to say I was so impressed with Jonathan 's and Sara's professionalism. While Jonathan was taking care of my hair, Sara's client suddenly started yelling at her, berating her and threatening to call Drybar's corporate office to complain. This client had been on the phone at the time of her appointment, and continued her conversation even while Sara was taking her back for the wash portion. Given a more than reasonable buffer, Sara tapped the client on the shoulder. The next thing I knew, the client was yelling at Sara about how she (the client) had just needed to finish her business call and was offended that Sara would say anything about how she, too, is working. The client then began putting her fingers in Sara's face, yelling at Sara (and then Jonathan as he tried to help), and huffing around the studio. Jonathan and Sara deftly brought the solution of Jonathan doing the client's hair instead of Sara, and the client sat huffily in the waiting area before coming back to yell at Sara more. The worst blow out of my life. The fact that this place is even an actual hair establishment blows my mind. The hair stylist washed my hair and just used a blow dryer on it. No styling , no products. My hair is still curly and poofy. The whole thing is a joke and they are refusing to refund me. Never ever come here. read more

I usually love my experience at any Drybar salon, but yesterday my experience was pretty subpar. The blowout itself was the normally quality I would expect, but the salon management is definitely lacking. There was no one at the desk when I first got there for a good 5 minutes. Finally someone came and checked us in. I wasn't seen till 20 minutes after my appointment time. There were no apologies or explanations as to why this happened. My other issue was the cleanliness of the salon. When I was laying in the chair getting washed, I noticed the ceiling has tons of dust, which is a pretty unfortunate thing to have to stare out. The chair I sat in looked like it had been through some stuff lol! The gray leather was all peeling and cracked. Do yourself a favor and never come to this location. It doesn't seem any experience is necessary for people to work here. I left feeling like I just let my 5 year old nieces play dress up with me. My stylist didn't know how to wash hair or dry it in any way shape or form. She spent time speaking poorly about other customers in the space. I feel like Drybar should have paid me to let this inexperienced person make my their guinea pig for 1.5 hours. I had to tell her a few times I needed to go. So disappointed in even paid, I should have just walked out. I'm so patient and understanding but this was absolutely an embarrassment to the Drybar name. 3.5 stars Summary: stylists looked unprofessional, no drink offered, style was fine but didn't last. This was my first time ever at a Drybar. And as a hairstylist myself I was excited to have the experience. The booking experience was fine, I booked online. I scheduled a CosmoTai, which is wavyish curls. When I walked into the store I was greeted by the receptionist and I checked in. I was about 20 minutes early, so I sat down to wait. Which gave me plenty of time to observe the place. (No beverage was offered. I don't know how it normally goes but almost every salon I've ever been to has offered a beverage. So I feel like that kind of detracted from the experience.) The salon seemed fairly clean and neat. The stations were simple and straightforward. There were about 4 stylists lined up working on one side and then some to the other side. Speaking of the stylists.... Wow. All I can say is wow. They looked so unprofessional. SO unprofessional. I'm not someone who thinks stylists should be wearing blazer and heels but at least some sort of dress code? When I tell you one girl was literally wearing sweat pants, a T-shirt, and crocs. And not cute crocs either; crusty, yellow crocs. She looked like she had literally rolled out of bed and came to work. One lady had on a white chefs hat?? It was the strangest assortment of clothing choices I've ever seen. Half of them didn't have their hair done nicely...I'm not going to lie I highly questioned getting my hair done just from the stylist appearances. Like I said I'm a stylist myself so I know it's hard work but come on. My stylist was dressed cute and looked more put together. She did a good job with everything, unfortunately it was raining and so my hair was flat and curl-less about 15 minutes after I left. Overall this was a very mid experience. Made me wait over an hour for a confirmed appointment & was unapologetic & until I asked about the delay, they said my stylist is taking someone else & I will need to rebook. I've been a loyal barfly customer for the past few years & this location staff is just plain horrible!!! Disrespectful and rude. Their stylists are inexperienced. The gay guy told me he will do my hair the way he wants & not how I want. The other stylist left my roots wet & when I pointed it out, she started huffing and puffing & walked out for a smoke leaving me in the seat unattended. This place always manages to ruin my mood & day. The new manager Cindy was great today though & I hope she stays. This location can't retain managers & they change every few months. My style was great! When we first came in the music was so loud that it was hard to hear. Our appointments ran about 15 to 20 minutes late. The music was so loud that you could not hear the phone ring which explains why we had to call several times to make an appointment earlier on that day. We both felt that they were not as free to use their product in our hair during the blowout. We both thought that there needed to be more product used in my hair especially with the hot humid New York summer day. Both of us had flyaways leaving the salon. read more

The result was good; the stylist did a perfect job. Was she rude? Yes. Did she pull on my hair despite indicating she was hurting me? Yes. Did she give me the incorrect style? Yes. She did correct it, but insisted I ordered the wrong style. I checked the book after I left, and I did not order the wrong style. If you have a choice, go to a different location. This review is primarily regarding how long I had to wait in order to start my service. I was scheduled for a 10am and was not seen till 10:35. I spoke to the front desk staff and they assured me my appointment was not moved. I arrived 5 minutes late but was still within their 10 minute grace period. My hair was not done till 11:10 and then it took another few minutes for check out. Needless to say I was late for my event by over 20 minutes. The hairstylist was wonderful and I got compliments on my hair although the curls did not hold very long which could be due to multiple factors. Regardless I was disappointed by having to wait as long as I did especially bc I had also requested the full service which included wash and style. They should be better prepared for busier mornings ahead of time. read more

I haven't been in since before Covid but my most recent visit was very disappointing. I will preface that my stylist was very sweet and she did a great job. But as a company and place they have seriously gone down. One of the most exciting parts of coming here was being offered a variety of drinks (bar is literally in their title). They don't offer drinks anymore, which is sad because it really set them apart from other salons. The receptionist's attitude was akin to going into the DMV and really brought down the mood. Their chairs are all beaten up and and upholstery is completely scratched and damaged. It just seemed like such a sad and rundown place compared to what it used to be. Like other reviews state, they also did not start on time. I waited about ten minutes, which I received no apology or even acknowledgement for. As convenient as it is I doubt I will be back. Curls last maybe 2-5 days but the sleekness until your next wash. Come in looking like a troll, come out looking like a Goddess. Pro tip: Don't wash your hair too often, it's drying. Plus you have to buy all those expensive products in the market anyways, might as well leave it to the professionals. Use dry shampoo in between then just come here and ask for no extra charge double wash (make sure they really scrub the nape area of the scalp because if you don't say anything people get lazy). I paid $72 for a straight blow out last night, this morning all my ends are already curling up and I had to straighten my hair. Shouldn't the blow out last at least 24 hours? Also I have been to this location a couple of times now. Everyone that works here seems sad for some reason? Not sure what's going on... I wish there was a Zero star option. What a disaster this location is. First time I went lady was nice, but kept yanking my hair Extensions even when I said "be careful" she continued to yank and when I went home I see that my extensions have been pulled. My expensive hair extensions matter more than one evening blowout. Very frustrating. Not to mention my roots looked dirty when I left. The whole point is clean, shiny styled hair. Then the second experience- the worst and last! I go in with my 3 gfs (4 blowouts) and we are 10 minutes late and get the worst attitude from the receptionist. I tried calling but the salon doesn't have a direct number to warn them running late. We walk into a ghost town of a salon. Not one customer in the place, yet the rude receptionist proceeded to say cuz we were 10 minutes late, two girls will not be able to get their hair done. Meanwhile all the employees are sitting around not doing anything. Receptionist made no sense. We have 45 min window each yet people can't be seen and there are no customers present or waiting. The amount of time she took to talk we could have all been washed already. This was a special occasion for all of us girls to be together for last night before people move- and they couldn't figure it out. Out of principle, I will never go here again! The worst customer service and receptionist, and mediocre stylists. No wonder they have two stars. And most reviews about the horrible receptionist. The extra I paid for a scalp massage was less than 3 minutes with the shampoo. The overall wash was so quick I question was conditioner even used. My coat was lifted and put on the counter, no coat hook and the overall experience was rushed with no styling and nothing like the image of the curls I showed I am not surprised by the reviews now read more

I wish I could give a better review :( I LOVE drybar, I have been to the Tribeca location before and loved it. I left feeling so happy with how I looked. Today however, was very different at the Hells Kitchen location. I asked for a Cosmo, and left with my hair being close to straight. By the time I had walked about five blocks to work, my hair was completely straight! This has never happened before and to say that I am disappointed, would be an understatement. I came specifically to leave with bouncy, curly hair, and instead ended up with hair that looked like it hadn't been touched. :( I just couldn't justify the $50 + I had just spent on this salon, only to end up looking like I had straight flat hair. I attached a photo as well. :( I wish I could get my money back sadly. On the bright side, maybe the next time will be better? Ugh. Probably won't be a next time. read more

I'm actually surprised that this Drybar location has such a low rating because I had a pretty good experience. The girl that did my hair (feel so bad I don't remember her name) did a great job - no complaints. Also, I got the Bay Breeze mask in addition to my blow out, which made my hair feel so soft and shiny. Only downside was that I had to wait about 10-15 mins past my designated appointment time. It seemed like they might've been a little understaffed. Still, I'd make an appointment at this location in the future. read more

I'm sad to hear other people have bad experiences. Maybe it's improved, because I had a much better time. I had a 7:30am appointment at this Drybar location on 01/03. I arrived a little late at 7:35am and was seated within a couple of minutes - the fastest I've ever been seated at a Drybar. The location looked clean - no complaints there. The styling took about an hour, which is how long it usually takes for me. The shampooing was good and the stylist was nice. I love how my hair looked at the end! I've included a pic. I left feeling satisfied and I am glad that I had booked my appointment here. read more

UPDATE: SECOND HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE AT THIS DRY BAR #2: Made an appointment last night for 5:15 pm tonight. I actually forgot I had this terrible experience, and my event was in this neighborhood. Overnight they cancelled it, and the email and my conversation with the call center made it sound like I cancelled it. They claimed they couldn't tell if it was me or them who cancelled it. It wasn't me. No more appointments available, so they literally just cancelled me. #1: Made an appointment on Saturday for Monday morning at 7:30 am. Texted me Monday morning at 7:20 am to say they had stylists who did not show up and had to cancel. Completely unacceptable. It is morning in NYC and I wouldn't have booked it if I didn't need it! Now it's costing me $20 in a cab to get to another location to try and get one before a 9 a.m. meeting. This is no way to run a business! read more

My first Drybar experience was at this location in Hells Kitchen and I'm happy it was here because the service was great. The staff was friendly and my hair looked so Fabulous after. So now I'm going to this Drybar every time I am in New York. First off, you are served wine as soon as you arrive. HELLO! I'm hooked already and then the service is just superb. They actually have a look book where you can choose your blow out style. That helped me out sooo much because normally my hairdresser at home just blows my hair out and I don't have a clue on how she does it. One of the things I loved was that they offer express check out.... all that is is them offering you to pay your bill before you are done with your service so that you just walk out when you are done. That's a great idea because you can just walk out when you're done. This is great if you're in a hurry. AND, they sell their own branded products of everything they use on you so if you want to take anything home, you can. I really liked a few of their products so I took home a few things. If you love to be pampered definitely make sure to visit this spot. read more

This is a terrible drybar location. Despite the convenience I don't see myself going here again. Here is my experience from today with Jesenia 1. When I sat down for shampoo, I was rudely told to not slip. The rest of the time I sat there with my neck in an extremely uncomfortable position 2. When I was trying to explain to her what I wanted she told me "I heard you", "I have told you 5 times already" 3. She burnt my scalp while blow drying my hair and then proceeded to tell me that the dryer wasn't even pointed at my scalp (FYI- it still burns there about 30 mins after) 4. I felt she was unnecessarily rough with my hair, yanking as much as possible 4. I was trying to meet someone after the blowout and I asked her politely how much time was left. She responded to me by asking how much time I had spent in the chair, and then proceeded to tell me that this is how long curls take. There were things in the middle where she condescendingly talked to me about not wanting to give me Amy Winehouse hair, about how volume works in hair and how flat irons are hot and I should remain very still. I hope she realizes this was not my first blowout. Side note: I merely asked for water when I was asked about my choice of drink and never received that either I had a previous experience here with someone else, where I asked for an up do and the lady had no idea what she was doing. Someone else came and helped her, basically teaching her what to do with me as their guinea pig. read more

Drybar now offers dry styling for nearly half the amount of the regular blow out price, just wash your own hair before you come in! I came in as a walk-in and was taken care of right away. My stylist did an awesome job on my Cosmopolitan do in under 20 minutes flat. She was attentive and made sure I was 100% happy before I left the chair. And yeah, the bubbles are included! read more

I am writing this review as I am sitting and waiting for my appointment. Here for an 8am appointment and stylists haven't even arrived. The front desk guy doesn't seem helpful. They are assigning as stylists as they walk in. There needs to be some accountability and timeliness. I thought it's a one time thing but other reviewers echo similar sentiments. I don't think I will be picking this location in the future anymore. Update: I talked to the manager as I wrote this and asked him about the stylists to which he responded 'he can't do anything if the stylists are not on time.'. Isn't he manager for a reason?
