I…read moreonly call the cab company directly to make reservations since I've heard mediocre reviews that if the reservation is booked through their app, the complaint has been the driver does not show up so I will continue to call the cab company directly to ensure my reservation is confirmed - they will send me a text. They also will send me the driver's name and I can track the driver whereabouts for pickup. One thing I don't like about the billing is that I will do the credit card prepayment in advance and to include the tip and the driver says the tip is not included in the prepayment. I wish the Green Cab & Yellow Cab of Somerville would give the customer a breakdown of the actual charge and the tip. So going forward, I will only do credit card prepayment for the trip and pay the tip in cash to the driver so my tip is not being charged twice. Otherwise my experience has been very good with the cab company.

The phone dispatcher is generally easy to understand and brief in his questions. The drivers are generally polite, speak good English, and take the most reasonable and direct route to the destination. The drivers also generally seem clean, and professional. I have never been overcharged or told the credit card reader didn't work. I have been in a few cabs without seatbelts but otherwise the vehicles seem to be in good working order, clean and comfortable. This is a decent company in the Boston area.

I was taking my gravely sick cat to the hospital and trying to get there so I could still make it to work at 3p. I called, got no time estimate and then was barked at, "have a nice day." 25 minutes later I called and got a condescending "It's on it's way, MA'AM!" 15 minutes later, no cab and now I am going to be late for work and my cat is nowhere near a vet. I put the cat inside figuring I hoped he would live for a few more hours and waved off the cab that was now waiting for me 45 minutes after the first call. Seconds later I get a call from a woman, their nightmare of a dispatcher, "So! MA'AM...you don't need the cab?!" I was worried about my cat and upset at her tone and admittedly yelled back, "NO! I needed it 30 minutes ago!" She (I kid you not) screamed in to the phone "YOU HAVE A NICE DAY THEN!" Forget the fact that the cab was dreadfully late. Forget that the service is abysmal. Forget that the people are rude and unreliable. To scream something so heartlessly disingenuous, so intended to upset is unforgivable. I was not asking for kindness or even an apology. I did not deserve to be yelled at and enraged by the person who failed me in the first place. The kicker is that the cat did die the next day. Independent Taxi is the worst. I pray that I never have to get in another of their cabs and I strongly encourage anyone reading this to look for another company to take you where you need to go. You deserve better.
