I booked a cab for my teenage daughter via their website to go about 1.5 miles and it gave me an estimate of $6.70 which was half of what my scheduled ride for Lyft was. While the cab came on time and it got her to where she needed to be, the fare was double what the estimate was and was actually more than what the cost of Lyft would have been if I had ordered it in real time. read more

Why use any other service? Every time we call Boston Cab, they are there. I'm told it'll be 15 minutes, and they are always close. On January 31st of this year, I called Boston Cab at 8 am to get a ride to the airport. My goal was to be there by 8:30. I live on the Boston waterfront so it only takes 10 minutes to get there. The cab never came. Frantic, I called back 20 minutes later. The dispatcher just casually mentioned that she would put in a request! I called Uber, They came in 5 minutes. I arrived at the gate just as they were beginning to board. The whole ordeal pushed my blood pressure up so high that, when I arrived in LA, I suffered a minor stroke. When you combine the unreliability factor with the extraordinary rudeness of the dispatchers it's like meeting an old school Boston stereotype saying in best Boston accent "Oh, did we almost ruin your little trip today? Called their dispatch morning of just to be sure, after a short wait on hold, person was nice and let me know the taxi was on their way. Taxi arrived at 5:03am. they have apparently switched their app to an Uber type model. If you create a booking ahead of time, it starts looking for a driver ten minutes before the booking time. There's no guarantee a cab will show up or be dispatched. And at least when I called because my cab didn't show up, nobody was at dispatch. I had to book a last minute cab from another company to get to the airport on time for my 5 am flight. read more

I don't understand all the negative reviews for Boston Cab. I find them excellent always and the best in Boston. I always take them to the airport and also home from the airport. Dispatch is always professional, friendly and a cab arrives within 5 minutes usually. The drivers are also always friendly but more importantly go the quickest route. I also found them excellent at following protocols during Covid. I always tip well. read more

Usually friendly, prompt and prepared, Boston Cab is especially effective if you live in the Fenway area. They have the normal cabs, clean and generally smell-free, as well as the vans which can be super useful. One word of advice? Call a couple times if no one picks up. I'm guessing they only have a small switch board so they don't always pick up. read more

Two weeks ago, I ordered a cab for a 3 am pick-up for a flight out of Logan for last week. The operator was very courteous and told me my driver would text me when he was on his way. Everything went smoothly, the driver texted me and arrived a few minutes early and was very nice and even helpful with our bags. This review is solely based on my latest experience with this company. I've only used them once before and had no issues. My driver arrived on time for an early morning airport run, was kind and got me there quickly. So I thought I couldn't go wrong booking them at 4:30 for a 6am flight. I got an email confirming my reservation, and was at my front door at 4:29 waiting. 20 minutes later though I was still waiting, and my attempts to call them failed as I was put on an eternal hold. Finally after 30 minutes I called it and snagged an uber instead which is what I should have done from the start. I barely made it to my gate just as they began boarding. What should have been a 10 min ride was a 20 mins ride due to the driver trying to take advantage of someone visiting the city. A friend needed a cab to get her to the hospital. She booked the night before for an 11:15am cab so she would get there early. It never showed and when she called to see what was going on the dispatch said. "just because you buy an airplane ticket doesn't mean its gonna take off". Last night at 10:00 pm I get out of class and I use my phone to Google a cab company. Boston Cab comes up and I dial the number. Here is a transcript of the conversation. Is it really that hard to send a cab to a girl standing in front of Emmanuel College? No. Do I understand that an address is helpful? Yes. Could you have been nicer to me when I was being so polite? Oh no no no no. No. On December 31, my boyfriend and I rushed across Boston to help his aged grandparents bring their New Years' Eve groceries home for the holiday. When we arrived, it was clear we couldn't all carry the bags on the bus. The manager of the store (watch this space for a review of Jamaica Plain's Stop'n'Shop) very kindly called us a cab. She gave them our cell number so that they could call if there were any problems. And then the wait began. They sent us a text to let us know the cab was on its way. Thirty minutes later, we had a cart full of groceries, and two very cold grandparents waiting outside the store. We'd been approached by so many ad hoc and passing cab companies, but hadn't accepted their offers because we felt obliged to go with the cab company we'd booked. We ended up sending the grandparents home in a separate cab, to prevent them freezing up right there on the sidewalk. We called Boston Cab Dispatch, and the phone operator told us the cab was "on its way". Fifteen minutes later, the manager of the store came out to check on us. She was worried and concerned that we were still waiting in the cold. At her advice, we looked to hail any number of the other cabs passing us by. Sod's Law -- as soon as we were loading the groceries into the bag of a different cab, a Boston Cab arrived. This driver is the only reason the company gets more than one star. He was really apologetic for our wait, kept his cool while we shouted at him (!) and informed us that he'd only just received the call. We took the other cab company because we'd already loaded the groceries, but I appreciated the professionalism of the Boston Cab driver. In future I'm not calling Boston Cab Dispatch. Who also moonlight as the Boston Cab Association. And any number of aliases. My advice? Save the number above in your phone... as "Bad Cab Company". If you ever accidentally dial the number, the name will remind you not to call them. And you won't be left in the cold for an hour. read more

The last few times I called for a cab, I've been yelled at, lied to, and hung up on for no reason. If there is a lazy dispatcher, they will tell you a cab is coming so they can get off the phone quickly and then never bother to send one. Picked up a Boston Cab at the airport at 1 AM, after several delays and our luggage was still in Chicago, made it clear were were Bostonians coming home from a trip and gave directions for how we wanted to get home. Driver pulls off the highway in Southie and plays dumb about how we wanted to go. I made it clear this is not what we requested, and he pulls a u-turn gets back on the highway and all-of-a-sudden knows exactly where he is going. I have lived in Boston for 15 years and this is only the second time a cabbie tried to pull a fast one on us, but I was not happy and can only imagine what is happening to people new to town. I hate that my first Yelp review is so negative, but I just had to voice my experience and seriously each other reviewers that this cab company, or at least the drivers they employ are rude and shady. Got a pickup from BOS early in the AM and since Uber was around 10 minutes away and I was sleepy, I figured "$&@- it" and decided to get a cab. The first time I took a cab here I had no issue at all, but not this time. Everything seemed fine (he took a slightly circuitous route but nothing major) until he pulled up to my apartment. I went through the screen, paid the fare and added a small tip, swiped my card, and a "Thank you for your payment" flashed across my screen. I waited, expecting Mr. 1743 to turn around and say thank you or whatever but he kept staring at the screen waiting for something. Finally, I said "So, I'm not sure what happened but I paid everything up. Are you able to see?" He said no, that I needed to hit the tip button and swipe my card. I stated that I had just done that, got the thank you screen and now the screen was back to playing random TV show clips. He came into the backseat with me and then started yelling that I needed to hit the tip button and to do it again. Starting to get irritated, I went through and showed him what I did, (keep in mind the fare now says 0 because we've been sitting in my parking lot with the meter off), hit 0 for a tip, swiped my card and it says "Transaction not authorized" He says, "See your card is declined. You need to do it again." "No," I say, "It didn't authorize because there is nothing to authorize. You can't charge a card for 0 dollars." He repeats himself and says I need to pay him . I don't think so. I call my credit card company up who declares over speaker phone that indeed a charge had been placed on my account for 36 bucks for Boston Cab. I hang up, grab my purse and say "There, you see? I'm sorry a receipt didn't print but please give me my bag so I can go home and go to sleep, I have to work tonight." He ignores me, spends the next 5 minutes talking to someone over the phone through his company saying he wasn't getting paid, meanwhile popping his trunk open. I seized the opportunity to grab my (formerly hostage) luggage at this point, but before I did, he hands me a piece of paper and a pen and says to write down my credit card information to verify with the company. HELL NO. I grabbed my luggage and went inside as he got back into his cab and drove off, still on the phone. Unbelievable. Please listen to other reviews and never use this service. There's probably a few good drivers with them but unfortunately this guy ruined it for me. read more

You would think with all the advertising this company does they would focus on the on time and courtesy of the drivers. Unfortunately that is not the case. Like other reviewers here over the past weekend I needed a cab after a show. I called and the phone rang and rang. Once we did get a pick up the cab driver was less than courteous. They have a new phone app they keep advertising with no extra fees etc. it is supposed to just require "two taps" and a cab will show up. Based on the basic, current way to get a cab and their response to that, I highly doubt this will be a successful business venture. I agree with the other opinions that this company needs to work on many things to bring it up to an an acceptable level. read more

From the looks of these reviews I got the good driver. In fairness I didn't call so there's that. Have you ever been so sick that you're at a complete loss as to what to do? That was me last week after two weeks of hacking and wheezing and not getting better I finally called the doctor and they were able to squeeze me in at 11:45. The problem being I was in downtown crossing, they in Porter and it was already 11. Add to this the meeting I had at 1 PM and I was in a pickle. Rather than trying to red line it out there I went to the cab stand near our building only to find three empty cabs. WTF? Panic set in as five minutes later there was still no one to be seen. Then 10 minutes pass. Twitch. Twitch. Then 15, I start to get short of breath. Where the eff are the cabbies?!? Finally someone shows and we proceed to head toward Cambridge. While on Storrow the driver says he has a pickup at noon. At Wellington. Would I mind terribly if he drives fast? Reaching for my seatbelt and finding it in good working order I said I would actually prefer that he did so. Evidently our definitions of driving fast differ but I appreciated the effort and the fact that maybe someone else would have freaked out so at least he took the time to ask me if I would mind. At one point my cabbie took a short call after which he turned and apologized. Me: "what? really? As long as you're not text messaging or veering wildly about the road you and I are good." This bonding moment led to an ever so slightly heavier gas pedal foot as he was determined to get me up north with a quickness. All this resulted in my arriving with two minutes to spare and in one piece. I'd say that's a successful trip. I was just looking at this page and thinking that Boston Cab gets a bad rap. Sure, there's the occasional screw-up--but in my experience, that's standard for the cab industry (particularly in Boston). I'd say Boston Cab shows up 95% of the time I need them to, and usually close to on time. The driver usually takes the most direct route (although it helps to make it clear that you *know* what the most direct route is). They're my go-to cab company in Boston. Anyway, I was just thinking that, and I was going to give the company 4 stars, and I just called to order a cab at 4:30 p.m. for a flight I have tonight. And the dispatcher told me that they don't accept timed reservations at that time! She said I'd have to call this afternoon when I want the cab. Now, the *last* time I had an evening flight on a weekday, I waited until 4pm and then I called for a cab and I couldn't get through to dispatch--mostly the line was busy, but then when it rang, it rang and rang and rang and no one answered. So I told the woman that, and she said, "Yeah, that's why we don't take timed reservations for that time." Which doesn't really explain ANYTHING other than the company is sort of crap at the 4pm-5pm time. read more

My work purchases the vouchers, so unfortunately they are the only cab company I can use. This is the worst cab company I've used so far and I've met a lot of terrible cabbies. My experience today was crazy. I get in the cab and the guy rudely tells me to turn that TV off. Ok, whatever, I hate that thing. He asks me if I need a cab tonight - no, I don't. What about tomorrow? No, I don't need one then, just now. He starts counting money as we're driving and he stops and asks me, "Are you paying with cash?". I told him no, I have some but not enough. He sighs and says, "What a pain" Uh, Ok. First of all, ask me that before you drive me half-way to my destination. Then we get to my place and the fare comes out to be like $16 or something. He asks again, "You sure you don't have a 20?" No, I don't. "Well what do you have" Uh...like $14 "Give me that, I'll take it." I counted my cash and came up with $13, which he replied with a sigh and said "Ugh it'll be credit then". When he got out to take my things he lectured me how using credit card is ruining the cabbie business and because people use cards it makes the job fucking suck. I just apologized and went inside while quickly. Like, Look. I get it. Who the hell wants to be a taxi driver? I was polite (in fact I didn't even speak). I wouldn't have been offended if he didn't take me because I didn't have cash - if he asked before I got in the car. There was no problem on Friday when I booked the cab online. I called them Sunday night to confirm over the phone and the man that I talk to Friday that was so nice turned into a demon. He was nasty, condescending, uneducated, and illiterate. His Customer Service Skills were so horrible that the phone call was unbearable. Offering a service that you want people to pay and tip for is out of Boston Cab dispatch's reach. After reading the reviews I understand now. Boston Cab dispatch has been reported to the Better Business Bureau repeatedly. The dispatcher's disrespect and horrible customer service are killing this business and they should be sued for traumatizing the public. Just book with someone else, do not bother with this company. I reserved a cab 4 hours in advance...did it show up? No. Did I miss my $200 express train to NYC? YES. When I called to confront them about the cab not being where it needed to be, I was hung up on. I called back to speak to the manager and she told me that I told them I had said "never mind". That never happened: when I was explaining my situation to the guy he swore at me and hung up. Great customer service! Hilariously they called me 2 hours later and asked me if I still wanted the cab.
