If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I called a couple of hours ahead to make sure that I could get a cab to show up at 11am. No cab there at 11:05, so I called to make sure that it was at least on its way. I was assured that it was, and that I should just give it a minute. 11:20... nothing yet, they say it's on the way. 11:30, I call to cancel the cab because I've missed the train and need to buy new tickets. I talked to the supervisor to let her know my situation, and she explained to me that reservations are "not guaranteed." Cab drivers are independent operators, so they just put out a dispatch call whenever a ride is needed. Apparently, it was too hard for them to manage to get a cab to my address even with a couple of hours' notice. In other words, do not bother calling. You're better off trying to hail someone from the street. read more

I am more than a little skeptical of all the negative reviews for this company. I used them several times over the past week as I had meetings and seminars all over the city. Their APP is pretty cool and every time I used the "book now" feature my cab arrived in 5 minutes or less...I got messages with the cab # as well as the drivers name and I could watch the cab's progress as it made it's way towards me. When I used the schedule in advance feature, my cab was always ready on time...even during the 4-5 hour. The drivers were very nice and the cabs I rode in were very clean. I thought the fares were very reasonable. I've heard of people paying much more than this in the smaller cities. I would feel comfortable making them my go -to transportation when needed in the city. read more

This is a step-by-step guide on what to expect from Boston cab (and really any cab company in Boston). 1. The first step is the curbside stop, where the driver will ask you where you're heading. This is an important interaction- note that the driver won't fully stop. If you do not provide a suitable destination, the driver will peel off and head for the next fare. Sometimes he'll be kind enough to insult you on his way out. 2. If you do make it into the cab- congrats! You'll note that the driver has accumulated months worth of important trash in the shotgun seat. He cannot move said trash for your 4th friend. Sorry. 3. Do not expect functioning seat belts. Do not expect your cab to not smell like cigarettes/vomit/both. Lowering expectations in this matter will only increase your enjoyment of the ride. 4. As you get underway, expect the driver to be surly, rude, and/or intoxicated. Look for the impressive stream of racial epithets he'll bellow at the cambridge cab driver who he just saw pick up a fare in Boston. You only understand 50% of them. 5. By now you've realized that the driver has purposefully taken an asinine route to your destination in order to increase his fare. Enjoy- you're now experiencing one of those special Boston "quirks". 6. When you get to your final destination, expect the credit card machine to be inexplicably broken. Last night i tried to schedule a cab to drop my girlfriend off at the airport, and I'm a little sick right now so it's a little bit difficult for me to hear. After calling, i got this grumpy jerk. I told him to repeat what he had said because I am under the weather and my sinuses are clogged. For some ungodly reason he just flips out and takes a rude tone with me and says "jesus christ what's wrong with you, can't you hear right?" I tell him to give me a break because I'm a bit sick, and he just straight up hangs up on me. Real mature, dude. Other than that, they overcharge like hell and the service is always bad. Booked a cab online to the airport on a Saturday for an early flight. The booked time was 3:45am, but by 3:55 there was still no cab. Made a call to the dispatchers and they were like, "Oh you booked it online, didn't you." Apparently the online booking service is useless. Don't use it because they won't look at it. So I called for a cab right then, and I was told it was on its way. A few minutes later, I got a text saying the taxi was only 0.2 miles away. Great, right? Wrong. The taxi came much, much later. Now that I am reading all these horrible reviews, i'm so grateful I had the rare experience of the cab actually showing up. I called at 3 AM to get a cab at 4AM to the airport. A woman answered and asked for my name, I was half awake, so I for some reason spelled my three letter name. Just took a cab from south boston and used Boston Cab company and the driver did a great job (driver number: 0590) It snowed today and the roads and extremely slippery. I usually get motion sickness when I get into a car that I'm not driving and I didn't feel a thing when he was driving. He drove with ease and not once stepped on the break too hard. I hate it when people do that and you almost go flying out the window! And to top it off the cab actually smelled nice. (First cab I go into that doesn't smell of cigarettes) I wish I got his name. Our car rental company called us a cab for the airport, after we dropped off the car. The cabbie was an older woman who seemed nice enough but rather vague about how to get to the airport. The fare ended up a good $10 higher than the same route coming going the other direction. But we did get to the airport. Lucky we had planned to arrive plenty early! The cabbie had complained about being given their oldest vehicle. Then, she can't open the trunk. She calls the dispatcher, complaining that she had told them the driver's latch was broken and needed to be fixed. Basically we spent a good 15 minutes, fussing with the lock, asking State Police if they had a crowbar, talking to the dispatcher and seeking advice from various truck drivers that pulled up to the airport drop off curb. We were about to call AAA, when the key fob control finally worked and the trunk opened. Jeez, all this and we hadn't even gotten in line, yet, for the TSA hassle. I hate when it's my turn at the taxi stand and I land in one of these cabs late night from Logan. Aside from having to correct them from taking me the LONG way to Kendall Square (apparently Pike to Brighton, then Kendall via Harvard is WAY quicker than Storrow) on a few occasions, they've also tried to tack on extra charges that were not on the meter and then insisted I pay them. Tonight's cab driver was nice enough, but it was apparent once I gave the address that he had no idea how to get to where we were going. When I mentioned it was close to Kendall Square, he asked me how to get there. Really? You drive a cab in Boston and you're asking me how to get somewhere? So I tell him my preferred way to go and off we go. Hooray. Only problem? By the time we get to the Storrow exit in the tunnel, there's construction. So he asks me again how to get to Kendall now that we couldn't go that way, and we miss the exit for Gov't Center so I tell him to stay on 93. We ended up going up to Sullivan Square and turning around, cutting back into Boston and then going into Cambridge because going by the Museum of Science was apparently not a legit way to go. At one point he mentions to me "you know, we could have just gone through the North End from the airport instead of 93." This pissed me off. He had known that there was traffic in the tunnel ahead of time, so he should have mentioned it before we started traveling. Also, if he knew how to get there through the North End, why did he ask me how to get there when the Gov't Center exit was coming up, or better yet-- why not take that exit? And then he began to argue with me. Apparently it was not his fault that he didn't tell me there was construction-- I brought up the point that I was out of the city for a week and not up on 93 construction, so it was his responsibility to know what was going on. Nope, apparently not according to him. I should have known this. It was just a horrible experience all around. I take cabs so that I'm home quicker than it would take me to take the T, and with a lighter burden than having to carry bags and luggage during rush hour. Called again the night before just to confirm my ride and make sure everything was in order, they confirmed my ride and told me again to expect a confirmation text in the morning. Come 4am the morning of my scheduled ride and no one showed up, no confirmation text, no call, nothing, not a word. I needed a cab to get me to the airport on a Tuesday afternoon. I started looking into booking one a few days in advance of my flight, and reading Yelp reviews just made me more and more stressed -- every Boston cab company on here has a 1.5 star rating, if not worse -- yikes. I settled on Boston Cab Dispatch just because it had a functioning website, and seemed the most user-friendly to book. My expectations were below sea level, based on the reviews. I booked online through the TaxiMagic app on their website. I received a confirmation email right after booking. Since I'm a paranoid freak, made only more paranoid by all the bad reviews I'd read, I called the dispatch the day of my flight to ensure my cab was booked and all set. The friendly dispatcher confirmed that it was successfully booked. I got a text message from the cab company with the driver's name and vehicle number when he was half a mile away. He arrived a few minutes early, even, and waited patiently as I whizzed around in my patented last-minute fashion. He helped us load our bags into the cab, took us a nifty back way to the airport (avoiding the hellish late-afternoon traffic of Melnea Cass Blvd), and gave me no hassle when I paid with a credit card. He also helped unload the bags. So, if there's anyone out in Yelp-Land doing the panicked search for a reliable cab to the airport, hopefully this account can help you relax. I made a point to come on and write this review because I get the feeling that, with cab companies above all, people rarely give props for a job well done. So -- props! read more

yes, awful. I called on Friday to make sure I could get a cab that could transport a student and her wheel chair and was told by the nicest, friendliest woman that it would be no problem and I only needed to call 20 minutes in advance. I called on Monday and suddenly it was like I asked them for a ride to the moon. They told me that it would take an hour "or two" and that they weren't even sure. The first guy told me that it wasn't possible at all. I don't when I let out the info that it would be a short ride (for a car; try a half mile on a non-motorized wheel chair). I suspect they lost interest when they discovered that. It seems like customer service in taxi companies is worse than the worse tech support. I've gotten better service from Bank of America trying to get a fee refunded. They don"t seem to care about making money. I see now why my 20 something students avoid cabs like the plague. Other businesses make tons of money off this demographic but cab companies seem to like to leave money on the table. Good thing they aren't publically traded companies. I frankly don't know how they stay in business. Perhaps their profits can stay really low and they scrape by. I feel like I am stuck with taking this company's taxis because they are the only ones at the airport taxi stand, and I am forced to take their cabs. They have such bad service and attitude. My cab driver literally just yelled at me for tipping him $1. He said "What are you kidding me what am i going to do with $1? Put it in the bank?!" and demanded more money. I was like "what? are you asking for more money?" then he goes on complaining how its not enough of a tip! I told him i don't have any cash only $1 in cash that i offered him and then he refused he said "no keep it just go take your luggage". This all is after I asked him to confirm that the total was in fact $31 (just to make sure) and he got all annoyed and said look at the screen do what it tells you enter the tip. This cab's # was 0836. Last time i took this cab (again not by choice) a different driver drove super slow 10 mph even though it was 2AM and there was literally no traffic. He purposely stopped way before a traffic light turned yellow just because he wanted to make the fare higher-- and it was, it ended up being $35! These cab drivers are all immigrants which doesn't matter, but they are HORRIBLE at customer service and they have such bad attitudes. They are all so rude. (They also don't open the trunk until you pay them, and don't help you take your luggage out.) do not use this company!!! The guy was a little gruff and had to call me back because I'd hung up without giving him enough information. However, I hung up because he was no longer talking and I thought the information was all set. But the actual ride to the airport was perfect and I'm thinking of calling them tomorrow to go to the airport again since it worked well last time. I'm reading so many awful reviews that sound EXACTLY like what I experienced. I, too, had a cab voucher for Boston Cab from my workplace, so I was forced to use this company. I too, had an EXTREMELY rude dispatcher. I, too, had a cab that NEVER SHOWED UP. A little while back, I booked a cab to get from downtown to Charlestown for an event for work. I booked the cab to get to my office so I'd be at the event with plenty of time to set up. 45 minutes later, the cab isn't there. I call the dispatcher. He says the cab is "on its way," but tells me that he can't tell me when it was going to come, since it was rush hour. A little bit later, I call again, and the dispatcher hangs up on me. Then they ignore my phone calls. So, my co-worker calls. The dispatcher tries to tell her that I only called to book the cab 15 minutes ago, when I had called hours earlier to schedule the cab to come AT A SPECIFIC TIME. Eventually we gave up and took the T to Sullivan and walked with boxes of stuff for the event, which we were 45 minutes late to. I took a Boston Cab again tonight from my workplace to get to another event for work. This time, we just took the first cab we saw near the office. When I got out of the cab, I think I may have accidentally left a bag on the cab, so I call the dispatcher to ask if he has a lost and found. He says, "yeah, it's at the police department." "At the police department?" I ask, laughing a bit. "Glad you think it's funny," he replies. "Thanks," I say, and hang up. You might be right, but I don't need that attitude, bro. I only give them 2 stars because the cab I took for work was very clean and took credit cards. Very convenient. But if I'm choosing a cab for a non-work related reason, I'll always go with Yellow Cab, which has older cabs that only take credit cards if the driver feels like calling it in (and sometimes their system is apparently down, but I've never had a driver having a problem stopping at an ATM). I live in Medford, though, and their dispatch is in Medford, so they always manage to show up at my house within about five minutes. It's incredible. read more

First ride was ok - on time pick up, got us to the destination, but as it turned out took us the loooong way there (we found that out when it took less than a quarter of the time to make the return trip with a different company). Called for a ride home and they demanded a street address, which we didn't have because we had just dropped off a ZipCar at a parking garage near a mall. I gave the exact intersection and was told they couldn't pick us up without a street address. We looked up the address of the sports center opposite the garage, called back and gave that, and were told a cab was on the way. 15 COLD minutes later I called to find out how much longer we'd be waiting and they couldn't find a record of our call. After several minutes trying to locate the phone number, the operator finally said they had no cabs in our area, didn't low the area, and couldn't pick us up. I asked why they didn't tell me that 15 minutes earlier, and was told to call Watertown Taxi. I asked for their number and the response was "Ma'am, why would I know their number?"Big help. Awful attitude, horrible customer service. Watertown Taxi had no problem locating us, was there in less than 10 minutes and delivered us home lickety split. I was given a cab voucher by an Airline for a cancelled flight. I took a cab from this company home and was told to call in the morning to have someone take me back using the voucher. When I called and asked to confirm about the voucher, the man instantly YELLS, "WE DO NOT TAKE AIRPORT VOUCHERS." Only one out of every ten cab drivers knows where things are in and around Boston. Storrow Drive. Comm Ave. Tremont Street. If you don't know where these things are, and you are a cab driver, you should look into a f*cking career change. And honestly, I expect you to know your entire way around Boston. And if I live on a random tiny street, which I do, I expect you to have tools that will allow you to find your way. If I am going to a random street, I expect you to be able to discern its location, bc chances are if I am taking a cab WHICH I AM, I dont have a car, and thus have never driven there and DO NOT KNOW THE WAY. Let me make an analogy. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I am an attorney. I know, you'd expect me to be more boring and less awesome, but there it is. Specifically, I am a litigator, so I do a lot of research and writing and I tell you how to get unscrewed when you're screwed. This doesnt mean I know ALL THE LAW. This means that in my training, I've been given tools that allow me to figure out the answer to your questions. The following is an example of how a conversation would go if you were a prospective client and I was a lawyer with the job-skill equivalent of a Boston Cab driver. Client: Jen S., glad I caught you. I have this legal problem. I'm getting sued for all this crap and I'm in a lot of trouble. What should I do? Jen S.: Well, what's the relevant law? Client: Well...that's kinda what I was hoping you could tell me...that's why I need a lawyer. Jen S.: Well, do you know how I should figure out the relevant law? Client: Um, no, because I'm not a lawyer. What's my best argument? Jen S.: [Doesn't respond because she is now mid-phone call in another language.] This would never happen, bc if it DID happen, I would be f*cking FIRED. Fired. If your entire job is to know one set of skills and you don't know them, you should be fired, and then set on fire. By me. 2. They say they're coming, and then never come. I mean, they just don't come. Sometimes Jen S. has travel plans. That's when I get the most pissed about this. Because normally, I can just walk out onto the street and catch a cab. But if I need to get to the airport, and I have tons of heavy crap, I am not going to run all over the North End trying to cab-catch. Im going to want to call you and have you come to my house. And being that you're a taxi service, that's actually what you're paid to do, you giant sacks of shit. Once I almost missed my train home because I called Boston cab 3 times and they just didn't come. So I frantically, sweatily ran outside with all my stuff (it was xmastime and I had bags of gifts like f-ing Santa Claus) and tried to hail a cab. Cabs just passed me bc they probably thought I was going to the airport and didn't want to take me there. Finally, I got a call from Boston Cab that they were at my house. I ran back to my house and got in and the guy has the audacity to say "you went out onto the street after you called??? You arent supposed to do that you know" in a bitchy tone. Um, REALLY? After close to 50 minutes of calling 3 times and having no cab show up, I should just stay at my house hoping and praying and miss my train? My hatred was at its peak level. 3. They run the meter starting from when they see you from across the street, before they go 3 blocks up the street, do the U-Turn, sit at the red light, then stop and pick you up. Sometimes it's worse. See related story: This happens all the time, but one story stands out. A Boston Cab picks me up at my crib, and when he pulls up and I get in, I see the meter is already at 4.25, so he's been running it on his way to get me. He starts driving, and I immediately say "you were running the meter before you picked me up, can you please reset it." He basically says no. I say "Well thats fine, but I'll be subtracting the difference from the fare." He flips out, and tells me to get out of his cab, which at this point is almost on the highway. I say "Are you actually kicking me out?" He says yes, so I cuss him out, get out, and leave his back door open for good measure so that he has to get out too, come around the car and close it. I hate you. 4. Who are you talking to on that phone? I tried to explain this, but Yelp wont let me write anymore. Maybe Yelp is intimidated by the awesomeness of this review. Oh well. It's been 11 hours since I called for a cab from Boston Cab Dispatch. They still haven't shown up. It seems that this cab company doesn't cater to people who live on the other side of Washington Street in JP (the other side of the tracks, so to speak). But, they don't tell you this. They say, "10 to 15 minutes." After it's been 30 you call back. "Should just be another five." 40 minutes later. No cab. You call back- ask them what the deal is- and they get pissy with you because "You don't understand how our business works." Actually, I do. A customer calls for a cab- and you send it. Not hard. If you aren't going to send a cab to certain areas of the city, then say so- instead of having us wait for an hour and a half thinking a cab might eventually show up. So I asked them, "do you just not send cabs to places where non-white people live? do you have a policy against driving to certain parts of the city- nevermind the fact that we are a five minute drive to the posh-posh South End? It's not like I'm asking you to trek out to Roslindale or Newton or Watertown. I'm asking you to get a cab to JP, in Boston, a ten minute ride to downtown." Their response? Hang up. This is not the first time I've had issues with this cab company and getting them to come to me when I'm not in a) the South End; b) Back Bay; or c) Beacon Hill. Seems people who don't live in those areas are shit out of luck. And after this fiasco I'm not even going to call them when I am in those areas. Even if it means I walk home. read more

Got into a what I thought was a nice cab in the South end for a trip back to Cambridge. It was a short trip and used credit card, since I was on company expense. I then ask for the receipt and driver has the nerve to say, "thanks, good bye" in a very sarcastic tone. I ask again for the receipt and he goes on about how the company takes a large portion of tip especially for credit cards. Finally got the receipt and says "thanks for the tip", again really sarcastically to which I replied, "Next time I won't give you a tip" as he was about to take off. If I could give this cab company 0 stars I would. How hard is it to have a decent cab company with decent customer service? We have it everywhere in Asia. You guys charge 5 times more here and you can't hire taxis who arrive on time and dispatch staff who know how to answer the phone? I always give myself 30 minutes for the cab to arrive and they are still late. Today I waited 1 hr and the taxi driver didn't even have the decency to say sorry, and on top of that took the wrong route. Boston is not a big city. I don't understand how it takes 1 hr+ for a cab to arrive. We are paying for a service and this company is basically ripping us off by providing horrible customer service. Stay the fuck away from these jackasses. I finally worked up the motivation to register for Yelp just to give a bad review, though it looks like we should've checked here before booking them in the first place. My boyfriend required a cab this morning to Logan Airport, so he used their website to schedule a 4:45AM ride. At 4:40AM, he gets a text that the cab is available, and he sees it outside so all seems well and good. At 4:45AM, he goes outside, and the cab had DITCHED HIM. No notification. Are you SHITTING me? You do not ditch someone's ride to the AIRPORT. At this hour, there is no MBTA service either, so he would have missed his flight had I not been able to give him a ride. read more

Called the night before to order a 4am pickup. They showed up on time and even sent a txt to say the cab had been dispatched. Would have given five stars except the driver seemed a bit out of control. read more

mixed feelings: majority of the time, they are a few mins late. clean, smell-free cabs. specifically the night drivers are way too politically active for an owl flight to a level of being aggressive and propaganda-making. i always talk to the drivers about which way they are going to take as there has been a couple of times they tried to take the long way. I also heard the "You are paying" comment. And once got screamed at because, according to the driver, I should have told him the exit 10mins ago and that there was a better way.
