My 16-year daughter took a whole semester course through this company which promised that she would receive a certification for her competition. My daughter completed the course, passed, but was denied her certificate. The company claim that they are no longer licensed to distribute certificates in our state. THAT IS NOT OUR FAULT!!! Now, my daughter's whole time has been wasted doing the class, she cannot get her learner's permit, and the swindled and stole our money for my daughter to take a class that she could NOT be certified for! I reached out to the company and they REFUSE to respond! I am working on a class action lawsuit and I have filed with the Better Business Bureau, the District Attorney's Office in my home state as well as the State of Texas, the Los Angeles Consumer Affairs, the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Motor Vehicles! Used them only for the road test (used Aceable for the actual driver's ed... good stuff from Aceable!!!!). Used the Kingwood location because it was the only location that had the hours we needed on a Saturday. Communicated via text with someone and was able to send them a picture of the required documents in order to make sure everything was in order. On test day, met them at the Starbucks and they quickly went over everything, inspected the vehicle, and conducted the test while I waited for them at Starbucks. Test took about 15 minutes and my son passed. Prior to the test, they will send you the course so you can make sure you're prepared. We were scouting the route and was able to practice parallel parking a few times at their location with their cones and their spacing just to make sure my son had it dialed in. Once the test is over, they tell you everything you need to take to DPS to get the provisional license. A bit spendy at $135 but better than dealing with trying to take it at DPS. Time is money and all that. read more

Had such a positive experience w/Courtney & Jan @ Driver's Ed a Box in Austin (after a frustrating trip to the DPS to get my 16-yo son's Driver's License), I'm pleased to provide this glowing recommendation for the successful Road Test experience in record time...less than 24 hours from my first contact w/them to his passing the driver's test. **Please bear with this long post, but as a first-timer with the Parent Taught Driver's Ed process, I wish I knew then what I know now.** DEIAB was money well spent after our PTDE experience left us frustrated w/the DPS & TDLR processes. A loose (not burned out) brake light got us turned away from the Marble Falls DPS and the next available appointment there was not for almost 2 months. The "closest" next appointment was over a week and a 1.5 hour drive away. Luckily, 2 months ago when I made the initial DPS appointment, I also researched the Third Party Testing Program through the DPS due to our previous DPS paperwork difficulties during the Learner's Permit process. I knew we needed a Plan B if it became necessary. I called late Friday morning, and DEIAB had next-day (Saturday no less) availability for the Road Test in Austin. Courtney provided immediate and efficient registration/coordination services for me via phone, email & text, and the very next morning Jan provided expert and personable instructor services to my (nervous) son. I can't adequately express (after the unknown PTDE process) what a relief it was to him & his (equally nervous) parents to hear from Jan (the seasoned professional) that we had all prepared well, albeit with a few minor adjustments needed on the road (as identified during the Road Pre-Test) and implemented (during the actual Road Test.) He successfully passed and Jan expertly gave us all a much needed confidence boost after myriad challenges. We are going to carry this good experience back to the DPS on Monday with positive thoughts that all will go well with the last of the paperwork for him to finally become an official licensed driver. My son had a fantastic experience with this company. From the day I scheduled the appointment (months ago) Courtney was so amazing with communicating exactly what we needed to get the drivers test completed. I sent in all the paperwork in advance so there was no question whether we had everything we needed on test day. Jan was the instructor and she was knowledgeable and kind. She put my son at total ease and made for a great day. Jan didn't act annoyed if he made a mistake, she taught him how to make those mistakes into being a better driver. I also loved how she really drilled home a lot of rules and suggestions; giving him examples of how other kids endangered themselves (or worse). Both of my daughters used Drivers Ed in A Box in Katy. I self taught both daughters through a online class. We used in a Box for the testing. Very easy to schedule, very clear on requirements, they tell you what you need to do before arrival. They let you practice there route for the test ahead of time. Very encouraging. once they start the test they can not help you. But, they are allowed to answer questions before the start of the test. They are great with nervous teenagers. read more

My daughter signed up, and we were pretty excited about how detailed and thorough the course and materials are. The issues became when we needed to get documents from them. We couldn't get the required documents for her to get her permit without a delay, but finally got what she needed. Everything was great until now, it is time for her to take her driver's test. We had to schedule her test out six weeks due to the DPS backlog. We have been trying to get a hold of Driver's Ed in a Box and have not had a returned phone call, email, or text and still no documents. Her test is in less than a week so they have had five weeks to get us the documents. Hopefully we don't have to pay and go somewhere else. read more

When I bought this program I was very happy. The man I worked with on the phone was very knowledgeable and helpful. However, we didn't start right away. Once we got started, it seems like the business may have changed hands. I can't get a hold of them to get my daughter's permit test results to get her driver permit. I'm worried that if we complete the course we won't get her license. I wish I would have enrolled her in driver school. She would have been finished by now. Phone calls, messages, emails...no one returns any. I'm so frustrated. Buyer beware. read more

I went to the Drivers in a Box in Katy T.X. and my experience was great! I took my adult driving test and passed with only one try! The DPS center was awful at doing the drivers road test (many hours of waiting) so I came here. I bought the pretest and the road test so he discussed the route and what to expect during the test BEFORE the actual test. The pretest was exactly the same route as the road test. I suggest to buy both because otherwise you will only get one attempt at the test and it is very nerve racking with someone who you haven't met before in your passenger seat with a clipboard. They also email you with both routes BEFORE your test (usually at least 3-4 weeks beforehand) so you can practice. MAKE SURE TO PRACTICE BOTH ROUTES because he gives them at random. This is a great program!! My son had scheduled a DPS road test months ago, but due to hurricane Harvey the DPS closed and weren't doing road tests until further notice.
