I am a sucker for the drive-in. This drive in had plenty of good parking spots. I liked I could buy my ticket online prior. The girl scanning tickets was nice. They have plenty of concessions. Great family spot to watch a movie.

Fun at the Glendale Nine Drive-in!

The Glendale Nine Drive-in theatre is the best Drive-in in Arizona! Box-office lines move fast, concessions are fresh, treats are plentiful, employees are always friendly and eager to help and there's a great selection of drinks to choose from. Bathrooms are clean, the grounds are regularly upgraded with fresh black top, there's always a trash can close by for easy disposal of wrappers and cups. And, the lots are big and plentiful... I mean huge with plenty of room to park! This outdoor theatre has the nine biggest drive-in movie screens in the state so you're always getting the best view from your car and I haven't even started talking about the selection of movies! The movies are always first run with a combination of recent releases to choose from. Everything from action, drama, sci-fi, suspense, horror and always something for mom and dad when the kids are asleep. If it's kids entertainment you're interested in, that's West Wind Drive-in's specialty! During special evens there are slides, bounce houses, games, face painting, playground music and more, including Family Fun Nights where kids prices start as low as $2! There's pajama parties, car shows, special screenings and free movies! You really can't ask for more when it come to stretching your hard earned dollars into the biggest bang for the buck. You can even bring you're own food! But don't let that stop you from visiting the concession building where you can check out the latest movie posters, holiday decorations, toys for the kids and notices for special events. The popcorn by the way is the best when compared to all the other movie theatres in the valley. How do I know? Because I've tried them all. There's one that comes close but popcorn at the Glendale Nine Drive-in tops it! West Wind Drive-in also prides itself in using the latest technology to bring you the brightest screen possible with LX Laser Extreme for a brighter image providing greater impact to your movie going experience. And the audio experience can't get more personal than the system in your car. Want to impress your friends with that awesome car stereo you recently had installed? Bring your friends to the West Wind Drive-in to the most action packed movie and they will swear the action is actually happening in the car! Want nostalgia? This drive-in delivers the very same experience just like the first one offered when it opened it's doors on June 6th, 1933. Sure, there's lots of choices out there today when it comes to your entertainment dollars, but there's nothing like watching movies under the stars.

This was a disappointing experience! Going to the movies is one of the top things I like to do outside of going to eat. They offer two different type of cinematic experiences one that has a better quality screen. If going, I would truly recommend that you spring, the extra money for the back screen because the normal version was pretty hard to see. Now in part this was our fault because we were in a little sports car so for someone over 6 feet to see we had to be back moderately far. If you are going to this theater and not spring for the extra, definitely get closer to the screen. I love the fact that they have so many theaters and movie options and times it's very different from here on the East Coast. But I would say the thing that truly ruined my experience was the assistant manager being completely passive aggressive from the first encounter. I ordered online and just picking up the food was already a questionable process once I got to my seat and halfway through the movie started eating the raisinets. I realized they were old and the pretzel bites were hard as a rock. so I waited for the movie to be over because it's a pretty long walk and went back to share that information and was greeted immediately with you purchased your food along time ago before I even said what the issues were. Once I showed her the chocolate raisin that had turned white they had to gather to decide...oh that's not right. at the end of the day I got my refund but the questioning consistently over me spending probably over $50 at the theater and questioning two items really turned me off.

Every time I come, I ask myself why I don't come here more often. We decided to take my daughter to see Mario Brothers at the drive in. With her being 3, this was a test to see how well she can sit through a movie outside the house lol Before heading out, we popped some popcorn and packed some snacks up at home to save money. Purchasing tickets is always incredibly easy and we were only in line for about 5 minutes, we arrived there about 10 min before the start of the movie. Admission is paid per person, not by the car. Adults are just $8.50 and children under 4 are free, which makes it an affordable family or date night. Tuesdays are only $6!!! They do have a concessions building with popcorn, snacks, drinks and restrooms that is in close proximity to each lot. We had a great time and really enjoyed a family night out, without breaking the bank. I even downloaded their app to earn rewards towards future visits. If you're someone who plans to go often they do have a plus membership that is $9.99 a month, and you get a free ticket every month towards a movie of your choice. As my daughter gets older we will probably opt in to make this a regular family night.

Everytime we come there's some jerk that won't turn off their lights and just leaves them shining at everyone during the movie. This was the last straw and ruined our night. We won't be back

Not exactly 4K video quality, but still a fun experience.

Supposedly the Drive-In Glendale is the last standing drive-in movie theater here in Arizona. My wife's employer gave her free admission to the movies last night. This was my first time at drive-in movie theater and truth be told, it was a pretty cool experience. It's located in Glendale a bit off Grand Avenue. So you pull into the entrance and we let them know what film we were there to see. We drive forward to the screen we were directed to (there's more than one) and at that point, it was a bit confusing. There are freshly painted bright white lines on the asphalt... none of which has anything to do with your vehicle nor the movie you're seeing. There's really no parking spots and no real rhyme or reason to what's happening. If you've got 25 to 40 vehicles all trying to see the same screen, it's basically a free for all. We had never been there before so a little organization and directions would've been nice rather than "Yeah, your screen is somewhere over there. Good luck." The other downfall is that I'm sure this place was built quite sometime ago. It's now surrounded by busy Grand Avenue, Bethany Home Road and numerous subdivisions and neighborhoods. All of this means, there's a ton of light pollution that's spilling into the drive-in movie theater property. We were relatively close to the screen, but the surrounding sky simply isn't dark enough anymore. In today's age where we're surrounded by 4K, Ultra HD and Dolby Atmos surround sound, you're supporting the drive-in because of the experience. I'm not going to fault them for the sub-par video quality. Yes, it looked like I was watching something on Laserdisc, but you're not going to the Drive-In Glendale for the video and audio quality. I don't know if I'd need to go back, BUT it was a cool experience. I can at least say I've been to a drive-in movie in my life time. Once you get past the organizational issues and get set up and situated, it was a fun night.

    No movie, just waiting....
    Crystal L.

Sitting here 59 mins waiting for my movie, why you might ask yourself. Well I arrived at 751 for a 805 showing of guardians of the galaxy and I drive to the screen and wait for it to start, and I wait and I wait. Well come to find out they put us at a screen for a 850 movie. Like really, they reallllllly thought I wanted to arrive and wait 59 mins for a movie. Agh, so I wait. They succeeded in making more money off me cause I have nothing but time to shop the concession stand.

Anticipation! & putting my jacket on dashboard to darken my radio lights!

THIS IS THE ONLY DRIVE-IN LEFT IN ARIZONA. Period. That being said, it rocks. NINE screens to choose from & they've got the social distancing thing down: -- watch movie from comfort of your own car/van/truck &/or can backup truck & sit in truckbed -- snack bar is closed so bring your own eats -- only four people allowed in bathroom at a time, w/ two employees monitoring that. We may have made jokes in the past about "the west side" & it's lack of safety...but both times we went, we saw an assortment of people...all thrilled to escape home and be mesmerized by a movie screen!!! Everyone safe/cool - no one being a dumba** or engaging in shenanigans. Good old fashioned movie-going. Date night. Family friendly. Squad outing. Birthday party. April 5: Invisible Man April 17: Aquaman

    Nancy Ann M.

All in all a good evening and good value. I would say that a simple improvement would be to label the screens. It did take us a bit to find our screen. There are regular concessions and the popcorn is decent.

    Michelle P.

This was a get experience. The first time here. The screens were set up nicely and entry was quick if you purchased your ticket in advance. This is a great way to watch a movie with your family.

Ask the Community - Drive-In Glendale

Can I park my SUV backward, so I can sit in the back to watch the movie?

Yes, they don't have restrictions on parking.

    Restrooms on location?

    Yes. They were clean too!

Would I be able to find the radio stations on a radio app?

No. They transmit via low power FM radio signal only. There is no streaming audio feed. The only way to listen to the audio from the film is to tune your FM radio to the proper station.

How early do you have to go before the movie, to get a good spot?

    5-10 minutes before start

Are you allowed to bring a cat since your not allowed out of your vehicle? he's not allowed to leave the car for his own safety regardless and obviously doesn't make noise.he just likes to sit with me and he's emotional support. thanks for your help!

As their sign states, "we love pets! But NOT here!"

Are we able to sit in the bed of the truck during the movie?

    YES!!

For the double features are you required to go to the first movie? Really only interested in the later showing

you only have to go to the movie you want/pay for; there's a fairly large gap between the double features

Is this place still open during this time?

    Yes

    Can you bring outside food/drinks?

Yes you can, people do it all the time, they also have a snack bar indoors though.

Can you bring a portable FM radio and still catch the sound or does the signal only work with car FM radios? Trying to figure out how to not kill my car battery.

Yes you can bring one in. My car automatically turns itself off when the car is running too long so a portable one is a great idea.

Website link doesn't work. How do I find out what is showing and when?

Google the name of the drive-in and it'll pop up first thing. www.westwinddi.com

Can I leave my car running the whole time to keep cool with the AC? Or do you have to turn your car off?

You do not have to turn your car off, just be wary of the people around you trying to watch the movie too. Just make sure your headlights are off.

I currently have a love/hate relationship with social media, but I'm so glad I came across a post showcasing this glorious theater located in Tempe! I was going to try it out by myself but the Crazy Cat Lady (if you follow me on the gram, you know who that is, lol) decided to come out from the boonies on a whim, so we went. We saw "Weapons" and it had us hooked to the end! No, the seats don't recline (they do lean back a little) or have swingy table tops for your snackies, but they have cup holders and they're not cloth seats, so for $3.50 (and $2.95 every Thursday) you really can't complain! The theater was clean and the nostalgic decor make for a very enJOYable experience. There's also an arcade in the front lobby to the left once you enter. My only little gripe is that the restrooms are on opposite ends, but that's a very minor setback. The concession stand has all the basics: popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, pretzels, candy and drinks. We got the combo deal for $11.95, which includes a medium drink, medium popcorn AND a hot dog (or pretzel). We ordered an additional small drink and the total came out to $15 and some change. I don't know about you, but I know a good deal when I see one and this here is pretty epic in today's economy! Of course the movies shown here are a few months old, but I love that because that means it's not crowded at all. I can't stand a packed theater. This would be a great place for a birthday party, team-building or just a simple no frills kinda date! There's a bunch of pic opps in here, too. Have yourself a blast and don't forget to take a pic with Chewie, like me! Lol!

Understandable as it was her first day. Then another guy comes in (the one that is trouble) by the name of Robert to help. They take their sweet time trying to get my food going and took another 5 minutes to put my food back in the oven. By then it's been 15 minutes already and I was getting impatient as the movie was starting already. Once the food finally gets to me, I asked to confirm if they gave me the right sauce. They didn't. I asked for ranch and bbq for my tenders but Robert puts in buffalo. I politely tell him that I wanted bbq and ranch. However, once we were seated in the IMAX auditorium--while the lights were still on--we noticed that the theater had not been cleaned thoroughly. There was paper, leftover food, candy, and popcorn left between and behind several seats. This was disappointing, as cleanliness is especially important in a movie theater setting. Theaters should be properly cleaned between each showing, with a more thorough cleaning completed regularly. As a suggestion to management, it would be beneficial to ensure staff are consistently cleaning between movies and conducting deeper cleanings throughout the week. This includes removing all leftover food and trash from between and behind seats, as well as disinfecting seating areas.
