Great for kids and the whole family. Cheaper than taking the kids to the actual movie theater. Can bring you own snacks and food. Just remember to bring a blanket and warm clothes for the cold nights. Would definitely recommend for friends and family.

Meh. This place was ok. I know it doubles as a flea market, but the ground was so littered in places. The toilets in the women's washroom were all clogged and gross and the movie was suppose to start at 9 and didn't start until 9:15 AFTER my mom had to ask why the movie hadn't started yet. Overall fun for the nostalgia, but I won't be back. Doesn't seem like they take care of the facilities too well. PS it is VERY distracting when cars join the movie 45 minutes after it has started. The glare from the lights on the screen is blinding and makes the movie hard to see.

I honestly thought drive-ins didn't exist anymore, but my husband proved me wrong haha! Lo and behold, San Jose still has a drive-in movie theater! Now although this place is pretty beat up and looks like it hasn't been renovated or refreshed (or cleaned - lots of trash scattered on the ground throughout the parking lot) in decades, it still served its purpose well (especially in these covid times when many would prefer to not sit inside an enclosed space with strangers). It was actually my first time going to a drive-in, so I didn't know what to expect. We arrived about 45 min early and were maybe one of the first dozen cars to arrive for our particular screening (Minions 2: The Rise of Gru, thank you very much!) :) My sis-in-law rolled up about 10 min later with her kiddos and we were able to park side by side. A car parked near us basically made our entire drive-in experience awesome, because they had one of those big box speakers sitting on the ground right outside their car that basically gave us surround sound and perfect audio! We spent half the movie outside our car enjoying the cool evening, then sat inside with the windows rolled down once it got a little chilly. Our niece and nephew were all cozied up in the back of their SUV with blankets and pillows! Such a fun way to see a movie! Anyway, a huge thank you to the family that brought that big box speaker and even played some fun old school jams before the movie started. We had a little dance party in the parking lot with our 6-yr-old niece until the Minions came on!

Games inside food court

I've only been to the drive-in movies in Concord my whole life the one in San Jose was always too far for me. When the one in Concord was like 15 minutes away growing up. But with the comparison I would say the one in San Jose is really huge it has six screens!! Meaning they had a lot of movies playing at once and at different times too. Their food court they had games plenty of food options and it was a quick in and out! Definitely will be coming here to catch a movie with my boo!

What time does the snack bar close on the weekends?

If I need Spanish translate how I can do it?

Hi Laura, thanks for asking! You can download an app called TheaterEars, which provides realtime translations of all movie audio throughout the film. Hope that helps!

Can I use a Bluetooth speaker?

Sure can! Use a radio tuner app like iHeart Radio on your smartphone with a Bluetooth speaker and you should be all set.

The recording still says you have to stay in your car to watch the movie. Is that still the case or can we sit outside in a lawn chair, like tbe old days?

We sat outside the vehicle and lots of others did too. :) You'll be just fine!

They say to get there early, to get a good spot. What's a good time to arrive?

It really depends on the day! You can get away later for weekdays and when it's colder. I tend to see early movies and just show up at opening for an easy time, but the times I've gone it really hasn't gotten packed until 10-15 mins before the… Read more

Do they still operate in the rain?

Website FAQs says yes. Open rain or shine.

I know the concessions were closed months ago due to COVID, are they still closed? I assume the restrooms are still available either way?

Concessions and restrooms are now open since at least September 2021.

Is there a Chick-fil-A near the drive in?

Yes there's two within 10 min - one in Monterey Hwy and one on blossom hill road

Is this place still open as of today, 12/19/20?

I would think yes, I was there a couple of weeks ago and I am signed up for the email alerts and they are releasing new movies this week so I would think it is.

Can I bring my dog?

I don't see why not as long as you keep him/her in your car!

Does the movie play through speakers? Or through the car radio?

Each screen transmits sound through a FM Radio channel that you can tune your car's radio into. They provide channel number before the movie starts. I took my portable handy Zoetree FM speaker that is available online for $20 (which had same… Read more

Is it cash only for tickets?

They accept cards.

Is the snack shack opened during Covid? If they are what snacks do they have?

It's not open yet, but they sell pre-packaged popcorn.

Do you buy the tickets online or in person? Because their website doesn't give the option to buy tickets... or at least I didn't see it...

I'm really curious of this myself. It doesn't state how to purchase online nor on their VM message

Can you sit on lawn chairs just next to your vehicle?

Not during COVID times but previously, yes.

Why are there trains?

The drive-in is adjacent to the railroad that serves Caltrain to Gilroy and Amtrak services to connect to San Jose. There is also Caltrain station here called "The Capitol station" with weekday service

What's their bluetooth device name to which I can pair my Bluetooth speaker while watching the movie?

Is there an app to get the audio on your cell phone instead of using the car's radio and draining the battery?

Can you buy tickets online or only once you get to the drive in?

Both

What stations do they use? Last time I went, I couldn't get the audio in my car? or What can I do if I want to watch in the bed of a truck?

You need to check that at the ticket counter

They sat a few rows away from me, which was perfect because it meant I could scroll in peace like the responsible adult I am. Popcorn prices weren't terrible (a small miracle these days), the seats were comfy, and it was just really nice to have a day out with my two girls without anyone melting down over ceilings. Honestly, this theater is way better than the one near her house and definitely better than roasting at home.

This theater is not updated with the fancy seats, but what it lacks in that it more than makes up in charm, service, and community cultivation. Visiting 3Below reminded me that venturing out of that corporate capitalist bubble of perceived coziness would put me in a vibrant hub of social awareness. This is where you go to see the Documentaries IG mentions, but no theaters seem to have times for. This is where you can catch live performances on the same stage that you'll watch a thought provoking film. And, as the manager/owner of the fiercest security dog I've encountered mentioned, THIS is where you could learn to tap dance. Now, I'm hoping this could be a location for some line dancing in the near future, because I think Sofa Streetfair could be the place for some of this, and 3Below seems the perfect hub for practicing. But, what a cute location, and I'm told it's locally owned, too. I didn't actually fact check that, so my apologies if I'm spreading misinformation here. I'm just doing my best to sell you on falling in love with this alternative theater as much as my friend has...I'm converted and I'll definitely be back.

Lol they give you two coasters on either side and the little controllers to make your chair live all the way back! Audio and visual was great even though I was sitting in a corner spot I could hear everything and it wasn't too loud since I was in letter D row. The only thing I would say that was a withdrawal was since I went with my summer camp to this theater we were standing outside as the campers, boys and girls went inside to wash their hands. I never got the chance to go to the bathroom until after they went out and my co-teacher could watch the children. Upon doing so as I went into the bathroom, I noticed all the soap dispensers are up against the mirror side and too far away for my shorter children to get soap. Which really grosses me out and that means none of the children actually washed their hands!! Most theater bathrooms have a little flip down stepstool that allows shorter children or even people to step onto the ledge so they can reach the soap dispenser. At least I made all the children use sanitizer after they washed with water. Hee Everything else went great with this movie theater and I hope something gets done with the rest of the business center that used to be in the back there used to be a billiards years ago! But there's nothing really over here besides Shoreline amphitheater and this movie theater.
