We love going to the Drift In when we're down at Deruyter Lake! The ice cream is some of the best around and their food is decent too. Stop by the Drift In and grab a cone. You won't be disappointed!

Hot fudge sundae was very good. Friendly staff. The outside table area was very clean and nice. Others in party enjoyed their ice cream.

After 30 years of spending personal, work, and family time in Liverpool, I finally made my first…read morepilgrimage to Heid's -- which feels a little like realizing you've been orbiting a national treasure without ever stepping inside. For context: My family has been Hoffmann's‑hot‑dog loyalists for decades. We've grilled them at home, served them at parties, and defended them in debates that got way too passionate for a conversation about encased meat. So walking into Heid's felt like I was cheating on a long‑term partner. And yet... Heid's didn't just meet my expectations -- it hurdled over them. My son and I stopped in for a quick lunch. He immediately committed a culinary misdemeanor by putting ketchup on a hot dog, which no one should do after the age of eight. But even that couldn't distract from how good everything was. The snap, the flavor, the nostalgia‑in‑a‑bun energy -- all flawless. Heid's isn't just a restaurant. It's a generational rite of passage. Families have been coming here forever, and you can feel that history the second you walk in. And here's the kicker: I drove up from Connecticut, and I would absolutely do it again. Heid's is worth the miles. Worth the hype. Worth the decades‑late arrival. I can't believe it took me this long.

Oh my goodness--the nostalgia! I haven't been to Heid's in probably 15-20 years. Growing up, Heid's…read morewas such a summer staple, so now that I've moved back home, it only felt right to make my way here. Heid's has that old-school, cafeteria-style setup where you go down the line to get your food. It's simple, classic, and honestly gives me Happy Days vibes. The menu is straight comfort food--hot dogs, chicken tenders, Philly cheesesteaks, sausages with peppers and onions, and more. They also have deserts like brownies, cookies & chocolate cake. They do server beer and have lots of fountain drink options as well. I got a Gianelli sausage with cheese fries and chili. Ummm --it was so good. The fries could've used just a little more salt and pepper, but that sausage hit the spot. My mom got a sausage with cheese fries and macaroni salad and loved it. No complaints here! Next door is Sweet Treats, their ice cream stand, and it's the perfect way to end your meal. They've got soft serve, hard ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies, flurries--you name it. My mom got a raspberry-lime sherbet twist, and I went all in with cookie dough chocolate chip ice cream mixed with vanilla, topped with whipped cream and caramel syrup. So refreshing and delicious. If you are ever in the Syracuse/Liverpool area, I definitely recommend trying Heid's at least 3 times in your life. It's affordable, family-friendly, and full of nostalgia. They also have live bands on Wednesdays, car shows, outdoor seating, and community events for kids throughout the year. Definitely tastes exactly the way I remember. If you do decide to try out Heid's, leave me a comment and let me know how you liked it!

They serve classic all beef, grilled, hot dogs with any of the following items kosher New York City sauerkraut, freshly grilled onions and peppers, spicy pepper relish, onions, classic pickle relish, Nancy's mustard, and of course ketchup and yellow mustard. They even have veal dogs, Italian pork sausages, and chicken spiedies (grilled chicken cubes in a hotdog bun -- spiedies are an upstate NY invention). I have tried all of these options and they are all fantastic, but I am a purest and love the kosher all beef dog with grilled peppers and a touch of sauerkraut the best. You can also purchase frito-lay bags of chips and bottled/canned drinks. He uses local wieners ...tee hee....from Hofmann's franks based out of Syracuse New York. Lou notes that he thinks that "central New Yorkers prefer the grilled flavor to the classic New York city steamed or boiled hot dogs." This is why he switched to a gas powered grill in 2001. I can't agree more, I love the grill. Lou is super friendly, and he'll chat with you as he prepares your dogs. Its $2 per hot dog. One dog is a great snack, 2 dogs or 1 chicken spiedie is a great meal. I never "plan" to eat here as the hours are dependent on the wether, I usually see them while walking around the commons and can't resist.

Yes, I know we all love Hoffmann and it is sacrilegious to say other wise. But here me out. Owner Tim makes all his menu items from scratch! His hotdogs, sausage patties, and sausage links! Oh, his condiments are all his creation as well. Ketchup , mustard, and relish all made from scratch by Tim! I asked Tim what he recommended I try on my first visit. He said definitely the chili dog. I was glad I did! Tim has a mixture of brisket and pork that he grinds, puts in a casing and then smokes. He than warms it back up on a flat top griddle at the stand. You definitely taste all the flavors that went into creating this dog! Thoughts after the first bite? Meaty and smoke! It's definitely one of a kind when you think of a hotdog. You definitely get that meat flavor with a hint of smokiness. The chili is meat based and sweet which blends in beautifully with the dog. The homemade mustered added a spice with a small kick. Complimenting the spice was the ketchup with hints of brown sugar sweetness and vinegar. Tim was a pretty cool guy to meet. Proud of his food and pretty chill wearing tie-dye and listening to some Dead tunes. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying some more of his home creations such as his shaved ribeye sandwich and sausage with peppers and onions. We can still throw our beloved Hoffmanns on the grill but for something a bit different stop over and try this delicious hotdog as well! You can find him in Abbott's parking lot Tuesdays - Fridays starting at 11:00am to 2:30pm.

I ordered a homemade hot Italian sausage patty and slathered it with homemade mustard and peppers and onions. I also had a hotdog, but unfortunately it wasn't one of Tim's homemade dogs which I was eager to try. The sausage sandwich was excellent. Good heat from the well seasoned sausage was amplified by a nice kick from the mustard. The peppers and onions were nice additions but I think next time I'll just enjoy the sausage and mustard by themselves. The dog was just a Hoffman's fried up on the griddle. Totally fine. Especially compared price wise with local competition. Totalled 8 bucks for an excellent lunch. My mouth is watering writing this review-the sausage is that good. Go try out Tim's, you won't be disappointed.
