Driessen Beach Park, Hilton Head Island
    Bruce K.

Some of the parks along the shore of Hilton Head Island include parking lots and playgrounds and even outside showers with restrooms. That makes them good. Driessen improves on this with a fabulous looking wooden boardwalk that takes you over the dunes (without damaging them) to a mat. It's smooth and easy and it's a great view. The beach itself is smooth and firm and flat for miles. It's a great spot to pitch your beach umbrella and take in the Sun. Unfortunately, it was raining today so I only checked it out and stepped my toes into the (cold) water. Note that this parking lot isn't free. You need to feed the meter. The view on the way!

Great beach, a small hike via boardwalk walkway. Parking was ample and I like the showers for your sandy feetsies!

Beautiful beach! Ample free parking at the nearby lots. The one downfall is that there is only entrance to the beach and it is a LONG trek over deep sand to get there: wish there was a boardwalk. It definitely is not wheelchair accessible and strollers would have a really hard time. Get there early for a spot closer to the beach.

On the beach and need to use the restroom badly? You have a long ways to go!

What makes Drisessen Beach one star better than Burkes even though they are next to each other and part of the same coastline is that Drisessen has facilities. Though it is not convenience that gives it the advantage, there is nothing convenient about Drisessen's facilities. Its restroom, parking lot, and wash stations are well-maintained and functional. But they are a long, bending, wooden pass way built above the swamps behind the beach. I mean this is long. I didn't think it was going to end. But it was scenic going over the mucky marshes and under great trees that shaded the way. It felt like something build for spectators at a zoo or out in some preserve. For an explorer like me it was perfect and makes the difference between the two beaches. Like Burkes Beach to its south, Drisessen has nice sands, nice surf before high tide, life guards, and chairs. It can be a little busier being that many resorts and hotels border it. There are also little escape bars and eateries at the resorts close by.The parking lot, about 300-steps from the beach using the wooden boardwalk I described, has a good number of spaces but can still fill up quickly. The lot is accessed by Bradley Beach Road though if driving I wouldn't come here as parking could be a problem. On bike would be ideal.

Out of Tybee Island, Saint Simons and now this beach this is my favorite. It's a little further for us but it's definitely worth it. They have restrooms with showers outside which is a plus, here you do pay for parking just like at Tybee but oh well. This beach just seemed the cleanest to me and the sand was just amazing. They also have tons of shopping plazas close by. We'll definitely be back to explore this beach more with our boys.

Beautiful beach. There's a parking lot that closes around 6pm (from what I recall), and you walk down a long wooden path to the beach. Sunset at the beach is absolutely gorgeous. Don't miss it.

Plenty of parking spots. Meter parking. Debit cards accepted.

Beach scene for locals or people who respect the oceans and dunes. Beautiful area with low to mid swells on average. Catch it before a storm and I've personally seen 3-4ft waves with a crisp curl.

An easy walk from the lot to the ocean. The beach area has bathrooms and showers that are clean.

This beach was like no other beach I had been to. Being the…read moreexplorative individual I am, I stumbled upon this beach which I thought would be a perfect spot to spend my birthday exploring. Urghhh not so much...!!!! This place is located in a residential area and I drive around on a unbusy Monday being a work day but, it still took me like 30mins to try to find a park just to enjoy the beach. I was thinking I did t make a good choice for a beach day. Anywho finally after spotting a person pull out from a street parking spot, finally I was able to park. Next venture i had to figure out was how to get to the beach now. Because of road blocks, I ended up having to ask 2 men at a hotel and they directed me which way to go. At this point, I'm starting to feel defeated but, I'm determined. At least, close to an hour later...I see the beach. It did had a water sprouting from the ground, a few swings for couples so nice landscaping. Then there was the beach, sadly it was not at all what I had expected as the water was muddy looking. Also the sand-flies were aggressive & everywhere. I sat on a boat for a few minutes checking out the view but, honestly on this day it was not much to enjoy beside the wedding that was about to take place. After only 10mins sitting, the sand-flies won! I left the beach and walked around and went through a restaurant which I noticed a lovely pool and a Tiki Bar next door. So thought I would grab a cocktail to start celebrating my birthday to but, not before getting bite 5-6 times by the very aggressive sand-flies. Warned: The beach does not offer the most easiest access to get to. I would have preferred going to Orange Beach in AL so, for this reason instead of staying the 2 nights I planned on staying...it would t have been worth the money. I only stayed in Hilton Head 1 night!!!!!!! Please put up signage so, people know where to PARK and BEACH ENTRANCE SIGNAGE so, 1st timers will not be defeated in trying to go to the correct area of the beach. It's not fun feeling like you're in a maze when visiting somewhere new.

We parked at the walking entrance, but there's limited space. You can also go to the driving entrance and go until you see a sign for the forest preserve. That dirt driveway will take you to a parking area near Fish Island. There are portalets there. The Shell Ring is nearby. If you start at the walking entrance, you cross some rice fields via Boardwalk. We saw some turtles and lizards in that area. Once you get to Fish Island, you might see more birds. Take the Rookery trail to see the most wildlife. We saw a great blue heron and other birds, and an alligator. It was very scenic and the trails were well marked. Signage on the roads isn't great, and it's a little confusing. You can scan a QR code for maps, but those weren't great either. The Sea Pines area is pretty large, but mostly private so beach access is difficult because there's no parking.

The parking area was quite rocky, and to be fair, it was raining a bit when we visited. There are…read moresome signs on how to navigate, but they're not very detailed, so it can be a bit of a hike if you're exploring on your own. There's plenty to see and do.... from walking and birdwatching to exploring the scenic trails and tidal marshes. It's a peaceful spot that offers a nice break from the more bustling parts of Harbour Town. Overall, it's a lovely nature escape and definitely worth adding to your day trip itinerary while visiting Sea Pines and Harbour Town. Many visitors say it's a hidden gem for outdoor lovers and those looking to enjoy some quiet time immersed in nature. Just be prepared for some uneven terrain, especially if the weather isn't perfect.
