I literally wrote her at like 8AM for a VERY LAST MINUTE SAME DAY appointment and she responded, was professional and OVERSTOOD the assignment! I liked that I was able to text her my inspiration of what I wanted and she told me exactly what to book, so there were no surprises in pricing. I also really liked that I was able to pay for my appointment in full on the site. When I walked in I felt comfortable and the place was clean! Her playlist was lit too, I was trying to stay still but it was so good I wanted to keep singing. At the last minute I asked her if she had space for my mom to get her makeup done and she took my mom right on the spot with no last minute fees. I got dressed in the shop and took my hair down while there and Bella even helped me. I was running late so I was rushing getting dressed and my zipper on my pants popped and she literally came to the rescue, trying to help fit it and perfect my outfit. I was so antsy, she was like maybe wear a longer shirt, thankfully I had a few shirts with me and I had one, but it wasn't the look I was going for. I forgot to mention that Bella's shop not only is a place where you can get your make up done, but you can even get an outfit and accessories for affordable prices. So back to my outfit, Bella pulls out a waist belt and SAVES the day! Bella took pics and videos of me and really took her time with me, not one minute felt rushed. At the end of the appointment she gave us both a small bag with a beauty blender and a nice lipgloss also. Here we are a week later and I'm so happy to say my face did not break out. Most times when I get my make up done my skin breaks out (I guess since I barely do it), but with Bella it did not. I noticed all her brushes were clean when she beat my face and she also used quality foundation and other products. She was also a good person to take to, I loved her motivation and determination. With my eyebrows, I have a rather full pair of eyebrows so any wrong little hair that is removed, I can tell because not only do I have full eyebrows but they are thick too. Juliana, the eyebrow lady there, she always designs my eyebrows nicely. Never removes too much and really takes her time in making sure they are symmetrical. In the past, I got my eyebrows done at a chinese salon and they never took time and gave some tlc to my eyebrows, it was just, 1, 2, 3, done, off you go. Juliana actually fixed the mess they made on my eyebrows because when I came in they were not symmetrical. After two waxes, my eyebrows are now perfect pairs. Now onto the brasilian wax. Let me tell you, I was peeing my pants basically because of how nervous I was of the pain I'd be experiencing while getting this done, but as we always say, beauty is pain. News flash, with Nadia, beauty is not pain, it is pain free actually. Nadia has the lightest and FASTEST hands in the world. Pressed on time and still need a wax? Come to Nadia's salon, she will get everything done in 15 minutes and when you leave, don't worry you will not be left burn or with patches. She has been doing this for years, both in Brasil and here in the states so you know she's set with those skills. I drive out of my way just to go to Nadia for my brasilian wax. Cheaper than European wax center, and a much better and cleaner job.

Cherry Le did my makeup for a television premiere last week. I found Cherry on Yelp and messaged her just a few days ahead of the Tuesday night event. She responded with her quote and the relevant details, and after mulling over whether or not to spend the money, I secured the appointment with a deposit the night before. She only had a 1:00 slot available, but she was able to come to me, meeting me in my hotel room. She arrived right on time with an arsenal of beauty supplies. I liked her immediately. She was so friendly and energetic, and said flattering things about my skin, obviously music to my 39-year-old ears. I had a great time hanging out with her. She asked what I was looking for and I said I was walking a red carpet and just wanted to look good. She took me through her overall plan and started with my eye makeup, layering on colors and checking in to see if I was okay with the level of drama. I didn't know enough to weigh in and let her do her thing, and less than an hour later, I was fully dolled up. She even put fake eyelashes on top of my already fake eyelashes. To be honest, I was a little worried at first. I looked very dramatic for two in the afternoon, and I wondered if I'd let her go overboard. Once I was dressed and at the premiere, though, I felt fairly confident and comfortable and got lots of compliments. I walked the carpet, the second time I've done that in my life, and stood and posed awkwardly for a million photos. I've seen the pictures from both events and am really glad I got my makeup done this time around. The bolder makeup just worked better with those bright lights. I'm not professionally pretty (I'm a writer, which is, if anything, an ugly person's job) so it was fun to get my face painted and hang out with the attractive people who go to television premieres. From the moment I did my trial I felt like I was in good hands - Juanita listened to what I wanted, was open to tweaking and trying new things, and was super responsive to my edits over email after the trial. Responsiveness is SO important when it comes to wedding vendors, and Juanita was A+++! I was really particular about having someone who could deliver a traditional South Indian (Telugu) bridal look, and I was so happy with the way my makeup turned out: glam, yet made me look like myself - a million dollar version of myself! Juanita was also understanding of the ceremony timeline, which included a quick saree and lipstick change. The eye/face makeup she did worked beautifully with both saree colors, and the simple lipstick change made it look like a totally fresh look! For the price of $447, I expected the service to be done by the professional I booked with, especially the salon owner. The final disappointment came with the haircut -- I requested a butterfly cut, which Zoila herself did, and unfortunately the results speak for themselves (see attached photos for transparency). Overall, I left feeling let down and frustrated. When you pay a premium price, you should receive the experience and expertise you booked for.
